There are several fan bases that are less than thrilled about this latest news. Didn't they fire DH twice already??? Are there no other writers available for daytime? IMO, this is not good news for the show at all. Honestly, I feel like NBC/Sony are intentionally trying to tank the show so that ratings hit such a low point that there's no reason and thus no argument when it comes to cancellation. If the ratings are the worst ever, then they won't get the bad press ABC got when they cancelled OLTL and AMC. Maybe that's cynical, but it's how it feels. This move isn't an attempt to save and/or fix the show. It's just like a step sideways versus forward.

It will be interesting to see how it goes! I have to credit Dena with reuniting Kim and Shane!

They needed to make a change. Many storylines aren't working. It remains to be seen if this will be the right change. If they take over next week their stories won't air until later this summer. Someone on another site said August, so we have to wait until the fall to see if this change is any good - and that's up in the air big time given Higley's history. On the plus side (for me, lol), doesn't Higley dislike the Marlena character? I know the casting cuts were network directed, but I feel like I heard comments/rumors over the years 2008-2011 that Higley wasn't a fan of Marlena/Dee. I also seem to remember that she did write for the "veteran" characters, even if the stories weren't that great. Didn't we get Hope, Bo, Jennifer, Maggie, Victor, Vivian, etc. in lots of stories? Again, I know the stories weren't great (they really suck right now!) back then but at least we were seeing characters we liked on screen versus Ben, Clyde, Paige, Serena, etc! If I have to watch crappy stories, I'd rather at least be seeing actors and characters I like in them. I'll take Jennifer Rose (not Daniel's Jennifer), Hope, etc. over Ben, Clyde, or Serena any day!

I feel like they are trying but then I also feel like if they were really trying they wouldn't hire writers who were fired for killing the ratings.

In my opinion, if TPTB did not want the show to go on, they would just pick a date and end it. They would not spend money hiring new writers while (probably) continuing to pay out the contracts of the fired ones.

Josh is a great writer. He wrote OLTL during the BEST of times and Kassie DePaiva was there for that. He also won an Emmy for best writing in 1994 (OLTL). I'm not unhappy about him, just about the things I'm hearing about her.

I'm kind of nervous about this. Depending on where they're currently filming now, the new head writers might decide to make some big changes, especially to some of the biggest storylines right now. What if they hurt the storylines as a whole or they just make fans even more angry? Don't get me wrong. I'm happy Tomsell is out but I really haven't heard good things about Higley, but she can't possibly be worse than Tomsell.
Not only that, but I'm also worried that she might end up getting rid of some of the newer characters, especially those that are now just starting to take off.

Hope and Aiden seem to be a couple that TomSell have invested in(and have done right by).
I do have concerns that Higley will not feel the same. I am not interested in seeing Bo/Peter Reckell return or watching Hope in another absurd storyline.

They show definately needed new writers I can't comment on Josh Griffith because I am not familiar with his work. Dena I will admit started out strong in 2008, but then everything went downhill from there.

I am not all that familiar with these writers, so I don't know how they will be, but I agree with Kpatch that there's really no place to go but up from here. I hope that come summer, when the new writers' material begins airing (side note: a pox upon taping so ridiculously far ahead!), that they can salvage what's left of certain characters after the number TomSell has done on them. I also hope it means we will finally see a storyline for Nicole other than standing up to bullies and living in a town where seemingly nobody wants her, though I won't hold my breath for that. I also do agree with @dukeblue though. I like Hope/Aiden and I have zero interest in Bo returning, so I hope the new writing team doesn't go that way. It's bad enough that we had to sit through that garbage with Daniel/Jen/Jack, and I don't want a repeat. Though judging from the nonsense currently happening at Puget Sound, I'm not so sure TomSell's plans for Hope/Aiden are/were as worthwhile as I expected anyway.

From what others have said, I have no hope. I got this from the imbd boards in which a user gave info about Dena: Here's what we do know about Higley on this show: - She likes to write for Melanie, Daniel and Maggie. She also created the Maggie & Victor supercouple, so expect them to stay together no matter what evil deeds Victor has pulled during TomSell's regime. Victor will go back to being a lovable teddy bear who says funny things. - She also likes writing for Chloe (so expect her back in the fall for the anniversary, as well as Sami) - She does NOT like to write for John & Marlena. Expect John to be written out again, after the anniversary. - She liked writing for the actresses who play Eve and Serena when they were on OLTL, so expect them to stay. - She likes Bo & Hope stories, so expect Bo to be back for the 50th anniversary. - She will probably drop new characters like Paul (not related to anyone in town) and Aiden (to make room for Bo's return) - She will keep Nicole front and center, because she loves writing for that character. - She will drop the Lucas & Adrienne pairing, because that is something TomSell created. - She will refocus Theresa. - I doubt Higley will keep Anne in the thick of things. Expect her to recede into the background. - She does not like writing for Kayla, so expect her to disappear from the canvas again-- unless part of the 50th anniversary is to get Steve back for a few episodes. Maybe Kayla and Steve will reconcile, and Kayla will leave town for good. Either way, this sucks. She sounds like a horrible writer and a soap actor OTLTL(?)alumni spoke out against her as a bad writer. Boards have bemoaned her coming on the show as apparently she got the show's ratings to an all time low. And she was fired two times! I'm worried about Days. And why do they keep re-hiring fired writers who DO NOT work? I'm disappointed.

I think Corday and others at the helm love Daniel and Melanie. They've been featured prominently from the moment they arrived in Salem. That hasn't changed no matter who was writing the show.
Dena has written good stories for Nicole in the past. Hopefully that will happen again.
I'm hoping for some actual romance with a woman as one of the head writers. Romance isn't people jumping into bed.

I think you are right, Corday is in love with Daniel and Melanie and as long as he's around they're going to be heavily featured no matter who's writing.
