SCENE 13 – AIDEN’S OFFICE – MID-AFTERNOON
Aiden was sitting in his desk looking over some documents when he heard the door open. He then looked up to see Sonny walking over to him.
“Hey, Aiden,” Sonny waved as Aiden smiled and got up and walked over to greet him.
“Hi, Sonny. It’s good of you to show up,” Aiden said as he and Sonny shook hands and they both sat down.
Sonny then took a seat in front of Aiden as Aiden glanced back at his papers.
“Yeah, I figured I should have this thing taken care of as soon as possible,” Sonny answered.
“Good, good,” Aiden nodded as he looked up at the younger dark-haired Kiriakis man.
“So today we’re going to talk about me representing you in your legal petition to have Arianna Grace adopted as your daughter,” he replied. “And I will also defend you in the fight to maintain custody in your divorce.”
“That’s right,” Sonny nodded. “I want to remain in her life even if Will and I break up for good. I am not going to let Will’s interfering ruin my relationship with her.”
“Of course,” Aiden nodded. “So basically what I have to do is prove to the judge is that you are a fit and capable enough father to be allowed to legally adopt her. And you know that Will might be willing to do anything to thwart our attempts by presenting any evidence that will put you in a bad light.”
“For instance, Alex beating up Will in the hospital,” Sonny remarked with a side eye. “Joe told me about that.”
“Sonny, you got to let your brothers know that we can’t have any more ugly incidents between your families if we want the proceedings to go smoothly. It will just give Will and his legal team more excuses to use that as ammunition against you,” Aiden admonished him sternly.
“Understood,” Sonny nodded.
“Now, I’ll will have a meeting with Will’s lawyer Sonya Rothstein in a couple of hours and we will be discussing when we will set a court date and what we will do then. Then once the court date is set and we decide what business will be discussed, I will let you know,” Aiden replied.
“Thanks, Aiden,” Sonny remarked as he got up and turned around to leave the office. “Let me know if anything comes up.”
“Sure thing, Sonny. Have a nice day,” Aiden smiled with a wave as Sonny soon left.
His phone then rang as he then picked it up and answered. “Hello? Oh, hey, Hope.”
“Hi, Aiden,” Hope replied with a smile. “I was just going to leave Ciara at the Pub today with Caroline so you and me can go on a date on Mt. Olympus. I’ve heard they’ve got an upgraded new menu that sounds fantastic. Want to join me?”
“Sure, I’d love to,” Aiden replied with a smile, looking at his watch. “I’ll bring Chase right over so he’ll have some company. I should be there in about an hour or two. I’m just finishing up work.”
“Okay, Aiden. See you later then. I love you,” Hope remarked tenderly.
“I love you too, bye,” Aiden replied back as the two hung up.
He then turned around and picked up a small picture of Chase in his school uniform in his hand. He then sighed sadly as he was soon reminded of the terrible past that still haunted him. His face contorted with fear and anxiety as he was filled with thoughts of how Chase might react if he were to learn that he was responsible for his mother’s death.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do with that boy,” he muttered to himself, shaking his head.
