Chapter 65b
Philip plucked Chloe’s phone from her fingers. “Parker, it’s Daddy. I have to tell you, I am really disappointed in you. We talked about hitting people, remember? More than once. So why on earth would you do a thing like that? … Okay. … Uh huh. … Wait. Go back. She said what?? She called me a ….” Philip’s lips parted. He looked at Chloe as he spoke to his son. “She called me … a dog? Oh. … I see. And you were just sticking up for me.” A little smiled crossed Philip’s lips as he listened to Parker. “Well, thank you, Parker. Thanks for defending me when I wasn’t there to defend myself.”
Philip noted a disapproving look on Chloe’s face. “Um. But you still shouldn’t have hit her. Hitting is wrong under any circumstances. … I know. Okay, listen big guy, we’ll talk more about it when I get home and I’ll explain about how to fight with words instead of fists. Meanwhile, no more crying, okay? I love you. … What? Yes, of course Mommy loves you too. We’ll be home in two sleeps. Bye.” Philip clicked “end call” before giving Chloe her phone back.
“Why did you hang up,” she wanted to know. “I wanted to talk to him again and I wanted to tell my dad to take away his Xbox.”
“It’s fine,” Philip insisted. “I handled it.”
“You think that was handling it?” Chloe disagreed. “He deserves to be punished, Philip, but you thanked him!”
“Damn right. And if I was there, I’d have cheered him on,” Philip snickered.
“You’re laughing! Philip, this isn’t funny,” she said, giving his arm a light shove. “It’s serious. We have to present a united front, and thanking Parker sends the exact wrong message! Do you want to encourage this kind of behavior??” Philip thought Chloe was beginning to sound like Dr. Richards. “For god’s sake, Philip, you can’t condone what Parker did!”
“Calm down, Chloe. Of course I don’t condone it,” he said, now wearing a more appropriate expression. “Parker has to learn not to solve arguments by hitting people, there’s no two ways about it. But … hey, his heart was in the right place. His reasoning was sound. It’s just his methods that need work.”
“Oh god,” Chloe said looking upward. “I’m raising the Godfather’s grandson.”
Philip chuckled. “Yes. You are. … Speaking of which,” he said, tapping her leg, “remind me to tell you how he kicked my father in the shin.”
Chloe leaned away from Philip in shock. “What??? You never told me! When?”
“When we were in Salem a couple weeks ago.” He looked Chloe in the eye and shook his finger. “And that time, he was defending you.” Philip watched Chloe soften and eventually smile. “Yeah,” he smiled back. “That’s what I thought you’d say.”

I love Chloe's change of mind when she heard that Parker had defended her to Phillips father!

Parker is just defending his parents the best way he knows how!

Chloe understands Philip's reaction now. He still deserves to be punished as it happened twice now. If there's no repercussion other than a scolding he will probably continue the behavior.

“Oh god,” Chloe said looking upward. “I’m raising the Godfather’s grandson.”
And that is now my favorite line of this entire story! I agree with those above who say that Parker needs to be punished in some way. I can understand a child wanting to defend his parents, but this is going over the line. It's happening too often. And them not punishing Parker for his behavior is practically the same as allowing it. Great chapter, Kpatch!

I agree with everyone. Parker needs to experience some consequences for his behavior.
This was a great chapter though! Interesting how Philip thought Chloe sounded like Dr Richards. I wonder how Philip and Chloe will proceed from here.

Chapter 66a
Philip was having lunch with the head of Beats Headphones at a restaurant in the Eldorado Resort Hotel. They were there to have a high-level meeting to discuss the possibility of a venture partnership between DreamTunes and Beats. If they could come to an agreement, they would put together a team from each of their organizations to work out the details of an implementation.
All during lunch, Philip found that he kept having to refocus. His mind insisted on drifting to Chloe and the things she said to him on the airplane. She knew! She finally knew that he didn’t cheat on her.
The sad thing was that she heard it from someone else. She believed someone else, even though he told her a million times that he didn’t cheat on her and never would. And he couldn’t ignore the fact that she didn’t trust him — her husband, her lifelong friend. Trust is so basic to a relationship and he firmly believed that love could not exist without trust.
Still, today, she said the words he would have killed to hear her say months ago, before the divorce became final. There were so many times along the way that he would have gone back to her in a heartbeat, even as recently as a couple months ago when they were researching ways to help Parker cope. But now, somehow it felt like too much water had flowed under the bridge. So he told her no, something he never expected to say, something he’d never said to her before. Philip Kiriakis actually said no to Chloe Lane. That was one for the history books.
Now that he had been absolved of cheating, he felt like a weight had been lifted … and replaced with another weight. Today felt like the end of an era for him, the end of the fairy tale. All the illusions he had about a life with Chloe were now gone. The bubble burst and the fantasy died. He now knew what the reality looked like and it wasn’t so pretty.
Still, he couldn’t forget that the good times they shared together during those first eight months of marriage were really good, off-the-charts amazing even. They were good together, fun, romantic, supportive. Add Parker into the mix and Philip had the family he always dreamed of. They should have continued indefinitely.
I will never give up on us. Those words floated into Philip’s consciousness, the words he said to Chloe in the hospital nearly three years ago. She surprised him on the plane when she said she remembered that. He assumed she was too groggy at the time to understand what he said. And he meant it when he said it, he meant it with all his heart.

Well, Philip...what's your next move? Are you giving up? (Can someone pretty please get Dr Richards on the phone ASAP???) Another great chapter!

This situation is so, so sad. I wonder what Philip will do next. Hopefully call Dr. Richards rather than mess up his business ventures by thinking about Chloe during meetings.

We really need to get Dr. Richards in to help with this situation. I had thought that Philip and Chloe were making progress. I just hope that they continue to, with Dr. Richards' help. Great chapter, Kpatch!

I think Philip's reality check is a good thing. His eyes are open and he's not blinded by this picture perfect future he created for himself when he was 16. And Chloe finally sees that Philip won't always be there waiting for her, no matter how badly she treats him. They have to figure out if/how they can go forward from there.

Chapter 66b
I will never give up on us. Those words floated into Philip’s consciousness, the words he said to Chloe in the hospital nearly three years ago. She surprised him on the plane when she said she remembered that. He assumed she was too groggy at the time to understand what he said. And he meant it when he said it, he meant it with all his heart.
~~~
“I just want you to be okay. That’s all,” Philip reassured her.
“You’re not hiding anything from me, are you?”
Philip hesitated momentarily before answering, remembering what EJ told him, that he is Parker’s father, not Daniel. But he couldn’t share that news with Chloe, not now while she was here in the hospital in such a fragile emotional state. And definitely not until he got verification.
“Oh my god, you are keeping something from me,” she said, starting to panic. “Tell me.”
He placed his hand on her head and stroked her hair soothingly. “Shhh. Shhh. Everything’s fine now, Chloe. There’s only two things you need to know.”
“What?”
He kissed her hand again. “First, that I love you.”
“Really? You still do?”
He nodded. “I still do. I never stopped.”
“But ... why? You’re not Parker’s father. You have no reason to still love me.”
Philip shook his head. “Parker has nothing to do with the way I feel about you, Chloe. There are a million reasons I love you, and being Parker’s father isn’t one of them. I’ve always loved you. Always.”
“A million?” She asked hazily, not quite comprehending. “A million is too many. I just want one reason.”
Philip choked back a tear. “Okay. How’s this for a reason? I love you because you’re Chloe and I’m Philip.”
With his thumb, Philip wiped away the tears that were rolling down Chloe’s cheeks. “And the second thing I want you to know is that we’re in this together, Chloe, for as long as it takes. I’m staying right here and I will never give up on us.”
~~~
He never would have given up either, but she didn’t leave him much choice.
He believed that Chloe meant every word she said on the airplane today, that she honestly wanted another chance more than anything. But Philip knew Chloe better than she knew herself, and he understood that Chloe shouldn’t be with any man right now. She needs to look inward, to figure out why she sabotages her own happiness, both for her sake and for Parker’s.
Taking a swallow of his gin and tonic, Philip said a silent prayer that Chloe would find the peace she deserved, and that she would one day be happy. He didn’t know where either of them would go from here, whether there would be — or could be — another love or another marriage in his future. He never really learned to stop comparing all other women to his first love. Despite all the hurt and pain that transpired after those first eight months of their marriage, he knew he’d never stop loving Chloe. He would love her to the day he dies. A chunk of his heart would always belong to her.
Toward the end of lunch, the Beats CEO suggested that they catch the last of the presentations at the Digital Music Convention here at the resort. Chloe had implied she didn’t want him to hear her speech. Well, hopefully she was finished, because the two men were heading over there.
