Aww it's so sweet of Philip to want to jumpstart Chloe's career so she can be more fulfilled. Too bad that probably isn't going to solve anything.

I'm sure he's right that working at Titan isn't her dream job.

Great chapter, it's so sweet of Philip to try to help Chloe. I hope she appreciates it. I can't wait to see what woman broke them up. When did Philip start this affair?

Chapter 12b
“You miss it, don’t you sweetheart?” Philip asked.
“Miss what?”
“Opera. You miss singing.”
Chloe smiled but she looked more sad than happy. “I don’t have time to miss it, Philip. I’ve got my hands full,” she said as she headed into the kitchen to fix Parker’s lunch for the next day.
Philip followed her into the kitchen. He leaned his forearms on the marble countertop island and stood across from her. “Be honest,” he entreated. “If you had the chance, you’d sing instead of doing what you’re doing.”
“That’s not true,” she answered, almost too quickly while spreading peanut butter on a slice of bread. “I’m committed to the DreamTunes project. It’s our baby,” she reminded him.
“I know,” Philip replied, watching as she put the sandwich together. “I get that, but….”
“Philip,” she stopped him. Leaning across the countertop she gave him a little kiss. “I love it that you care, but my opera career is a thing of the past. You said it yourself, DreamTunes is our family’s business, right? And there’s nothing more important to me than our family.”
Philip was skeptical. He thought she sounded rehearsed. Narrowing his eyes, he asked, “Are you sure about that?”
He detected a tiny bit of exasperation when she answered. “Yes, Philip. I’m sure and I’m tired and I really don’t want to talk about this anymore.” She secured the sandwich inside Parker’s lunch box, closed the fridge and said, “I’m going to bed.”
That’s when he resolved to do something about it, and he began communicating with Claudia not long afterward.
“Philip, sorry to keep you waiting,” Chloe’s agent said on the other end of the phone.
“Claudia, any news?” he asked.
“Yes, I got Chloe an audition,” Claudia reported.
“Fantastic!” Philip was so excited. “Does she know yet?”
“No,” Claudia replied. “I’m about to call her.”
“Great, that’s great, Claudia. Thank you.”
“Not a problem,” the agent replied. “Take care, Philip.”
“Claudia, wait,” Philip said, slightly panicked. “This stays between us, right?”
“That’s the deal,” Claudia said. “You don’t want Chloe knowing you had anything to do with this.”
“Right,” Philip agreed. “I just know how proud she is and it’s important for her to think she got the job on her own.” Philip doubted that his part in the process would stay secret forever. These things had a way of coming out, especially since Chloe had an uncanny knack for coming up behind him while he was sending emails to opera houses or catching him texting or on phone calls he didn’t want her to know about.
“Well, ultimately, it will be on her own,” Claudia remarked. “You only did some legwork.”
“Ah, you’re the best. If you were here I’d give you a big kiss,” Philip laughed. He turned around to see Chloe standing in the living room. She had just come home and was taking her coat off.
He must have looked like a deer caught in the headlights, wondering how much of the conversation she heard. “Well, thanks, Mark,” he said into the phone as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, I will Mark. Okay Mark, I’ll see you tomorrow, Mark. Good bye.”
Philip clicked end call as Chloe looked at him quizzically. “Um. That was Mark,” Philip told her.
“I gathered as much,” Chloe said, but the look on her face showed she was suspicious.

Of course she's suspicious....her husband just said he'd kiss a guy. Either Philip has developed some new interests she doesn't know about or he's hiding something.

Oh dear... it looks like the reason Chloe thinks Philip is having an affair is because he's sneaking around trying to get Chloe's singing career rebooted. Didn't he grow up in Salem? Won't he ever learn what comes of secrets, whether or not they're well intentioned? LOL

Uh oh! Now we see how things started to unravel. Philip may mean well, but he's going behind her back, keeping secrets, and then covering his tracks. Oh, Phillip. Philip, Philip, Philip! I am starting to see where Chloe may have formed some doubts. Uh oh!

Philip mentioned Mark's name a few too many times. This certainly looks suspicious.

Chapter 13a
Chloe had grown more and more suspicious over the following months and it just about wore Philip out. He really didn’t understand where all the distrust was coming from.
The first time Chloe questioned Philip about being involved with another woman, Philip didn’t take it very seriously. In fact, he didn’t take it seriously enough. But Chloe didn’t make it sound like a big deal, just a passing insecurity.
He had no idea that things were about to explode the way they did.
~~Flashback to October 2014~~
One evening in early autumn, Chloe was oddly distant at the dinner table. She silently chewed her food and avoided looking at Philip. He mentioned Titan moving forward with the private label wine project, he asked about Parker’s play date, brought up the upcoming election, suggested seeing a new movie that was opening downtown for their next date night. Nothing. Nada. He couldn’t get a rise out of her. He couldn’t get her to join the conversation at any point, so he decided to try something outrageous and talked about a man she was mad about.
“I heard Jon Hamm was in the office today. Did you see him? The women were going crazy.” When Chloe didn’t react, Philip snapped his fingers in front of her face and said, “Earth to Chloe.”
Chloe blinked and looked at Philip. “Sorry. What?”
“I was just trying to get your attention by saying Jon Hamm from Mad Men was in the office.”
“He was? When? Why didn’t you tell me?” She sounded a little angry, which wasn’t part of the plan.
Philip sighed. “No, he wasn’t.”
“What?? Philip! Then why’d you say he was?”
Setting his napkin on the table, Philip decided to ask directly. “Chloe, what’s going on? Something is obviously the matter. Care to share?”
She looked askance at him. “Ha. I was wondering the same thing about you.”
He squinted at her. “What are you talking about?”
“Monica,” Chloe said, tossing her own napkin on the table.
“Monica who?”
Chloe looked at Philip as if she were trying to stare him down, like he might crack under her angry glare. “I don’t know her last name. Lewinsky perhaps.”
“Huh?”
“Oh you know very well who I’m talking about, Philip,” Chloe folded her arms across her chest. “Pretty young thing in the office. Shoulder length dark hair, about five foot two, big chest, just your type. She works in Marketing. Oh yes, and you go on business trips with her.”

Dear Philip--It's a terrible idea for a married man to go on business trips with young women unless there are several other people along. You're welcome.

Chloe seems to have a lot of reasons to be suspicious of Philip lately.

Wow this chapter was crazy! Philip should not be going on business trips with other women. What is he thinking? I think Chloe, has a right to be suspicious. Philip is doing a lot of stupid things. Can't wait to read more!

Monica Lewinsky! That's great! Really, though, Philip should know better than to go on business trips with young ladies and no one there to supervise. That usually leads to trouble. Chloe has a right to be suspicious. Can't wait to see what's next, Kpatch!

Just got caught up. Phillip one tiny piece if advice...if you are having a conversation you do not want your wife to find out about NEVER have your back to the door. That way you know the MINUTE she walks in and don't have to worry about what she heard.
Csn't wait to see what Phillip has to say about Monica!!
