New character, Serena Mason(portrayed by Melissa Archer) will make her debut in Salem on December 5th. Apparently, Serena and Eric will already know each other.

How close were Eric and Serena back when they were working together in Africa?

Archer: He was a photographer and she was a reporter and they formed a real bond because of what they were going through and what they were witnessing over there....Here's the unique thing about Eric and Serena. They really talk. They don't hide things with each other when it comes to their feelings. There's mutual respect and trust.

This is a surprise visit?

Archer: It is, but she actually knows some people in Salem already because she and Eric visited the states together. She knows Marlena [Deidre Hall] and Roman [Josh Taylor] and a few others. Completely separate from that, she also knows Melanie [Molly Burnett]. They met in Europe and became really close friends.

I'm hearing things get a little physical — in fact, downright violent — between Serena and Nicole [Arianne Zucker].

Archer:  Nicole is looking out for Eric, but she goes a little too far. It's certainly not one of those soap-opera girly fights with a little slapping and hair-pulling. These are tough women.

I love, love, love Melissa Archer! I'm not excited she's seemingly paired with Eric/GV, but I like her so much that I'll watch anything she does.

I thought she was going to be Sarah Horton too. I'm not familiar with the actress. I guess she's a new love interest for Eric. Another reporter. Unimaginative.

I'm kind of glad she's not Sarah Horton. Not that I wouldn't have been thrilled to have a past character who's been on the show before to come in again, but I'm just glad that's one less legacy character for the writers to destroy. At least Serena will be coming in with a clean slate so there's really nothing to destroy right now.

Greg Vaughan discusses Eric's relationship with both Nicole and Serena. He doesn't seem too pleased about how things have evolved.
It appears as if Nicole and Eric will remain in splitsville and that Serena will be the new woman in Eric's life.  I'd really love to know what the thinking was behind this decision...especially after so much time was invested in their storyline. 

I think this one answer sums up Greg's feelings about it:


Eric and Nicole are over and there's a new woman (Melissa Archer's Serena) coming into his life. How do you feel about this new story turn?

I will let the fans [decide]... I think that there are a lot of elements that... You know when you lift the rug, sweep a bunch of sh*@*t under it, cover it up, and leave it alone? Unfortunately, in this situation, that's kind of what happened with Eric and Nicole. Then, there's a new element... I think they're forcing something before allowing it to evolve.

Great. Now he will probably leave because they're screwing over his character and for what? Daniel? I can't believe they are wasting this actor and seemingly managing to screw up what started out as a great love story. Only Days.

I am beginning to feel this has fail written all over it. They should have taken our advice and made her Sarah Horton.

So I finally clicked on the article and the beginning is confusing. It says Greg Vaughn is moving on. Do they mean story wise or is he actually leaving? They don't reference him leaving anywhere else but that sounds like he's leaving. I hope I'm just reading that wrong.
