Chapter 28
The Square
Paige: JJ, you can’t avoid your father forever. JJ: How about a few days? Paige: You’re going to see him when you go home. JJ: I was thinking maybe I could stay at your place. Paige: My mother would never allow it. She said I can’t see you anymore, remember? JJ: Oh, that’s right. Paige: Don’t worry JJ. I’m not listening to her. I never do. JJ: Maybe I can stay at Daniel’s place since I still have his key. Paige: Text me and let me know what you decide. JJ: I will. I love you Paige. Paige: I love you too.
The Horton House
Jennifer returns from upstairs. Jack looks at her for a long time. Jack: Sorry if I’m staring. You’re even more beautiful than I remember, Miss Horton. Jennifer: And I’m sorry I ran off like that. It was too much to process all at once, you really being alive like this. Jack: And now? Jennifer: Now, I’m not sure what to think. Part of me is furious with you for putting us through the hell of grieving for you. Jack: And the other part? Jennifer: The other part of me is so so happy, you’re gonna have to peel me off the ceiling if you want to kiss me. Jack takes a step toward Jennifer and kisses her. She pushes him away and slaps him. Jack: Ow. What was that for. Jennifer: That was for the hell you put me through. Jack: You just said you were happy. Jennifer: I changed my mind.
Hope’s House
Hope: Just because you rescued Jack, you think I’m gonna take you back?? Bo: Aren’t you happy he’s not dead? Hope: I’m thrilled to pieces. Who doesn’t want Jack back? But you could have at least called once in a while to let me know how you were. Bo: I would have if I could have. Hope: What’s that? A Dr. Seuss rhyme? Bo: No. All I’m saying, Fancy Face, is that it wasn’t my choice. Hope: It was too your choice. It was your choice to accept the assignment knowing that it would tear you away from your wife and young child. It tore us apart, Bo. I mean me and Ciara. You have no idea how much we missed you. Bo: Of course I do. I missed you guys too. Hope: But we got over it. Well, I did. You’d have to talk to Ciara to see how she feels about you. Bo: I will. I’ll talk to her. But Fancy Face, this isn’t over. I won’t accept that. He touches her face and leans in to kiss her.

Thanks for reading guys. We're going to take a break for Christmas Day. The content of the next chapter doesn't feel very holiday-ish, so we will resume tomorrow.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Chapter 29
Hope’s House
Bo touches Hope’s face and leans in to kiss her. Hope: Please Bo. Bo: Can’t you at least meet me halfway? I love you. Hope pushes him away. Hope: I’m sorry, Bo. I don’t feel the same. Bo: Are you in love with that lawyer guy? Hope doesn’t answer. Bo: Right. I guess I don’t have the right to ask, huh? Hope: You should go talk to Ciara before you leave.
Daniel’s Apartment
JJ: Thanks for letting me crash here, Daniel. Daniel: No problemo, but you can’t avoid your father forever. JJ: That’s what Paige said. Daniel: My guess is the writers couldn’t come up with anything more original so we all have to recite the same dialogue. JJ: That’s nothing new. I just don’t think I can face my dad.
There’s a knock at the door. Daniel: You’re going to have to. Right now. Daniel opens the door and JJ’s eyes widen when he sees Jack. JJ: You told him I was here? Daniel: Sorry, pal. I’ve got a new girlfriend and you’re cramping my style. Daniel puts on his jacket and picks up his keys. Daniel: I’m gonna give you two some time to talk. Daniel leaves and a prolonged silence ensues. Jack: Been a long time. Haha. JJ: Jack: Say! Remember the last time we were together in London? JJ: Jack: No, huh? JJ: Jack stuffs his hands in his pockets and whistles uncomfortably, swaying every so often. Jack: Seems like a lot happened while I was gone. JJ: Jack: Jack, I’m not sure why you don’t want to talk to me. JJ: Don’t call me Jack! Jack: Um. Okay. Jack sits down on the sofa next to JJ. Jack: Can you tell me why…. JJ: You raped Aunt Kayla!

I like that Daniel called Jack! He and JJ do need to talk away from everyone else.

Chapter 30
Horton House
Jennifer dials a phone number. Jennifer: Hi Daddy. Bill Horton: Jennifer Rose! Are you calling to wish your old man a Merry Christmas? Jennifer: Um. No, I actually forgot it’s Christmas. Bill: Oh. So, how’s my girl? Jennifer (sniffling): Not so good, Daddy. Bill: Under the weather? Jennifer: No, just wishy washy. Jack is back, Daddy. He’s not dead. Bill: So I heard. Jennifer: You knew?? You live in Africa doing that Doctors Without Borders thing and you knew?? How did you know? Bill: I talk to people. They tell me things.
Daniel’s Apartment
JJ: You raped Aunt Kayla! Jack: What?? JJ: Are you gonna deny it? Jack: No. No, I can’t deny it, but that was another lifetime. JJ: And that makes it okay? Jack: No. You’re right. That doesn’t make it okay. How did you find out? JJ: What’s the difference. I just know you and Mom were too chicken to tell me. Jack: You’re absolutely right about that. It’s not the kind of thing that makes for a good bedtime story. JJ: There was a time I wanted to be just like you. But while you were gone I found out I want to be nothing like you. Jack: Can’t say I blame you. Half my life, I didn’t want to be anything like me either. Or anything like my fathers. JJ: Fathers?? Jack: Yeah. Harper Deveraux and Duke Johnson. So believe me, I understand how it feels not being able to emulate your father. JJ: Good. Then we agree. Jack: Luckily, I can see you’re nothing like me. JJ: How do you know? You don’t even know me. Jack: That’s the first thing you said today that isn’t true. I know you, JJ. I can see that you want to be a better man than me, and you know what? That makes me proud. JJ (rolling his eyes): Fantastic.
