I had a dream early this morning that I was talking to Louise Sorel about Santa Barbara. I figured that meant I needed to find someone to talk to about Santa Barbara. SB was my favorite show. I loved that it was brand new and that I could watch it from the very first episode. I was 13 years old when it began and I just loved it so much. I wrote letters to most of the cast and still have a photo album somewhere containing all of the pictures and letters that I received from the actors.
If you watched it too post your thoughts.

My memories are a bit vague but I remember Eden & Cruz...I remember the actress Marcy Walker married Billy Warlock (Frankie Brady on DOOL) in real life...and I had the hots for A Martinez.

I think everyone had the hots for A Martinez! I was a huge fan of Todd McKee who played the original Ted Capwell. He was Eden's younger brother. Ted's high school romance with Laken Lockridge was a favorite storyline of mine. They were young and innocent and fell in love despite their families hatred for each other. It was enchanting to me as an early teen.

My hubby admits that he watched Santa Barbera when he was growing up in Russia and that he liked it. I think he had a thing for Eden. I was really only aware of the show, I didn't really watch it. But I knew who Eden and Cruz were. Heck, at one point, I knew every major couple on every soap, even if I didn't watch their show.

Rafe and Sami should be Eden and Cruz and I think that's the magic TPTB were trying to capture. The hot dark hispanic male and the fair blond Irish woman. But in my opinion, they miss by a mile. Rafe, you sir are no Cruz. (That's for Kazz.)
I watched Santa Barbara but not that closely. I do remember Jed Allen (Days' Don Craig) playing the patriarch cut from the same cloth as Victor Kiriakis.

Harley Kozak played Mary McCormack the good girl nurse who fell in love with Mason Capwell. They were fabulous together until her tragic death. She was on the roof of the Capwell Hotel and part of the sign fell on her and she died. And no, I did not make that up!
I loved Robin Wright on SB. She was still on SB when she filmed Princess Bride.

I also read Harley's books...very good reads....if you have a chance, check them out and enjoy, Dating Dead Men, Dead Ex and some other ones I can't remember the titles.....her main character, Wollie designs greeting cards and is always getting into wild situations, reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books......... Anyway, I do not remember her in Santa Barbara though, but I remember the sign falling incident...very crazy...!!!

I will have to keep an eye out for her books.
Melissa Reeves (Melissa Brennan back then) was on SB when she was about 17 years old. She played Jade Perkins before she left to go to Days. She was one of the many actors on SB who were also on Days.

But in my opinion, they miss by a mile. Rafe, you sir are no Cruz. (That's for Kazz.) LOL... and this is why we are friends! ... in fairness though I will add that Sami is no Eden either. Eden & Cruz were to SB what Bo & Hope are to Days. They were the lead couple for SB for years and the most memorable but not my favorites. I liked them but I LOVED Mason & Julia. Lane Davies was my favorite Mason too Pallison. I get to watch Nancy Grahn (sp?) on GH. She plays a character named Alexis who is similar to Julia in a lot of ways ... but sadly has never found her "Mason". I was also a fan of Keith & Gina and Robert & Kelly. I liked Kelly better than Eden (sort of like I always liked Sami better than Carrie, except that I never hated Eden) and was so into Roscoe Born back then. It defies logic but he was soooo HOT to me in that role.... personality most definitely effects looks to me because I sure didn't find Trent Robbins hot nor that psycho he played on OLTL. But what made SB for me wasn't any of those couples, it was Lionel & Augusta and CC & Sophia ... the casting for those four roles is what made SB a success IMO. They were all awesome... and Louise remains my favorite!

I loved Mason and Julia. They were both intelligent and witty. Keith and Gina were so hilarious.
I really liked Lionel & Augusta and CC & Sophia even though I was in my teens for most of SB's run.
I couldn't ignore Louise after having a dream about her! Augusta Lockridge was something else. She had her daughter's pet pigeon turned into hors d'oeuvres after all.

I was wondering if any of our newer members watched Santa Barbara.
I wish one of the cable channels would air the series.
