Chapter 28

EVE'S APARTMENT
TERESA: You what?!
EVE: I got rid of it. I disposed of it. It has been discarded. It is dispensed with.
TERESA: I know what getting rid of something means!
Teresa winced.
EVE: Chill out, sis.
TERESA: Don't tell me to chill out, Eve! That was my personal stuff! You had no right to get rid of it!
EVE: Actually, it's my apartment. I pay the rent here. Plus, I had a look at the "stuff" that was in that bag. Plus, I gave you ample opportunity to get rid of it. I asked you to two weeks ago and again last week. I wasn't gonna ask a third time.
TERESA: I need that stuff, Eve!
EVE: For what? So you can get high instead of doing your job or doing anything with your life?
TERESA: You never should have thrown my stuff out!
EVE: You listen to me, little sister. I will not tolerate any of this. You need help. You need some very serious help because one day you are gonna end up hurt or worse. I know it doesn't seem like it at the moment, but I'm trying to help you.
TERESA: Yeah right.
EVE: I am. But, honey, let me tell you, I will not have drugs in my house.
TERESA: Fine. Then I'm leaving.
Teresa stood up, went to her room, and started packing her things.
EVE: No, you're not leaving.
TERESA: Yeah? Just watch me.
EVE: Where are you gonna go?
TERESA: I don't know. I don't even care. Why should I? No one else does.
EVE: That's not true, little sister. I care about you.
TERESA: Bull. Nobody cares about me. Not even mom or daddy.
Teresa zipped up her suitcase. Eve stood in the doorway.
TERESA: Move.
EVE: No. Teresa, it's not gonna end like this. You can't run away from your problems forever.
TERESA: Move.
Eve and Teresa stood there staring at each other. Teresa pushed her way past Eve and walked out the door.

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
Kate was waking up. She wasn't quite sure where she was.
KATE: What the...?
Kate attempted to get up, but soon realized that she couldn't, as she was held down by chains.
KATE: Where am I?
JORDAN (VO): Good question.
KATE: Jordan?
As Kate's eyes adjusted to the light, she could see that it was indeed Jordan. However she looked a little different than last time they'd seen each other. She was wearing a purple and white checked gingham skirt. Her voice was different, too. When she spoke, it was with a light southern accent.
JORDAN: Oh, yeah. It's me. Although, you might wanna start callin' me Tammy Sue.
KATE: What is going on? What am I doing here?
JORDAN: Well, Kate, you wanted to find out all about what I was hidin', and now you're gonna find out.

I won't be surprised if Theresa ends up dead by the end of this story. I was hoping she would somehow see the light, but it looks like she's determined to self-destruct no matter what. I think there is nothing Eve can do to save her. Maybe Theresa is right that nobody really cares for her.

And wow... is it me or did Jordan develop an alternate personality?

Chapter 29

SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Teresa slouched at her desk, barely trying to stay awake. It was only when someone knocked on the door that she was jolted into alertness.
TERESA: Just a second.
Teresa wiped her nose, and hid stash she was keeping in her office in a desk drawer. She made a half-hearted attempt at looking put together.
TERESA: Okay. Come in.
Maxine walked in.
MAXINE: Surprise mandatory drug testing.
Teresa gulped.
TERESA: What?
MAXINE: I said, "surprise mandatory drug testing".
TERESA: I heard you the first time but, what? Why?
MAXINE: Orders from upstairs.
Maxine handed her a cup.
MAXINE: I think you know where the bathroom is.
Very slowly, Teresa stood and left the room.
TERESA (thinking): Oh, god. I am so dead! Now how am I gonna make more money?
Teresa went into the bathroom and tried to think of a solution.
TERESA (thinking): It's not like I can give it to her tomorrow, Maxine'll just wait there until I'm done. Oh, why did they have to do their annual surprise drug testing today of all days?
With no time for excuses or a back up plan, Teresa did her business in the cup. Then, she got an idea. She poured out half of it, then filled it with water.
TERESA: Maybe this'll dilute the drugs. Maybe they won't find them in there at all.
Teresa went back to her office, handed Maxine the cup and sat down.
TERESA: There you go.
MAXINE: Results will be back tomorrow.
Maxine left.
TERESA: Great.
Teresa opened her desk, got the bag out, and started cooking again.

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
KATE: Jordan, what's going on here?
JORDAN: I told you to start callin' me Tammy Sue.
KATE: I thought you didn't like the name Tammy Sue.
JORDAN: That's what I told everyone else. Oh, it's a fine name. I just couldn't let everyone else know my real name, or else they'd turn me in.
KATE: If you're talking about Clem, people would understand why you killed him. From what Clyde told me, he was disgusting!
JORDAN: Oh, I'm talkin' about more than just Clem. I'm also talkin' about five other boys, at least three girls, and my own momma.
KATE: I don't understand.
JORDAN: Nobody does. Haven't you ever wondered why no one's willing to say my real last name?
KATE; Not really. I just kind of assumed that your last name was Weston and that Clyde was lying about being your step-father.
JORDAN: No, not quite. He's my step-daddy. But, he's also my accomplice.
KATE: Accomplice?
JORDAN: That's right, Katie. Ya see, to everyone here, I'm sweet, unassuming, mild mannered Jordan Ridgeway. But, to Clyde, Oliver, Clem and everyone back home, I'm...
Jordan pulled an ax from out of her dress.
JORDAN: Tammy Sue Fain, the Butcher Lady of Poplar Bluff!

Chapter 30

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
KATE: The Butcher Lady of Poplar Bluff? What kind of nickname is that? I mean, it's a mouth full, definitely.
JORDAN: It's not a nickname. It's my title. Didn't Clyde ever tell you? He told you about Clem.
KATE: Yeah, but that's all he told me.
JORDAN: Oh, there were more. So many more.
KATE: How many?
JORDAN: About nine.
KATE: Nine?!
JORDAN: That's right. I've killed ten people all together.
Jordan raised the ax.
JORDAN: Soon to be eleven!
Then, there was a knock on the door. Both women stood there in silence. Then, there was another knock. Jordan hid the ax under her skirt.
JORDAN: Don't move. I'll be right back.
Jordan left the room.
Kate sat, looking around the room. She noticed that, right near her, were a set of keys.
KATE (thinking): Really? Really, Jordan? Leaving the keys right out in the open? You may be a slightly psychotic serial killer, but you're not very smart, are you?
Luckily, the keys were within her reach. Kate was soon freed, and she snuck quietly out the back.

SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
J.J. and Paige were sitting in Paige's hospital room. J.J. was trying to fill in the gaps of Paige's memory.
PAIGE: So, you know my mom, right?
J.J.: Yeah. She's the one who told me that you were in the hospital.
PAIGE: And she knows we're dating?
J.J.: Uh-huh.
PAIGE: Does she like you?
J.J.: Not exactly.
PAIGE: Why not?
J.J.: Because she doesn't like my parents. Our moms went to high school together and were always competing with each other. Especially for boys. My dad chose my mom, and your mom didn't like that. She also seems to think that I'm just like my parents. Which, I used to be, but I'm different now.
PAIGE: Gotcha.
J.J.: So, do you remember any of this?
PAIGE: Vaguely, but not really.
J.J.: Well, I'm sure that, in time, you will.

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
Jordan walked back in.
JORDAN: Okay, Katie, time...
She noticed that Kate had gone. She pulled the ax out from under her dress and swung it around.
JORDAN (yelling): Kate!!
She ran out of the room to attempt to recapture her prey.

That was a very lucky break for Kate. I wonder if Paige will get her memory back.

Chapter 31

CLUB TBD
Jordan walked into the club, wearing the same dress from yesterday. She looked exhausted. She walked up to the counter.
BEN: Whoa. You have a rough night?
JORDAN: You're not funny, Oliver.
BEN: Oliver? Jordan, keep it down! Why are you talking like that, anyway?
JORDAN: It's Tammy Sue again.
BEN: Oh, god. You mean...?
JORDAN: That's right, little brother. I'm back. The Butcher Lady of Poplar Bluff is back!

SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
It was now the next day. Teresa sat in her office, nodding off. She was awakened by a knock on the door. She wiped her eyes and put away her drugs. She then wiped her nose and cleared her throat.
TERESA: Come in.
Kayla walked in.
KAYLA: Teresa, we need to talk.
Teresa made her best attempt at looking awake.
TERESA: Aunt Kayla, hi. What's up?
Kayla took a chair and sat down in front of her niece.
KAYLA: There's no easy way to say this, Teresa.
That woke Teresa up for real.
TERESA: Say what?
KAYLA: The results from yesterday's surprise mandatory drug test came back...and, it's not looking good for you.
TERESA: Okay.
KAYLA: I'm sorry to have to do this, but Teresa, you're fired.
TERESA: What?! No, no! You can't fire me!
KAYLA: I'm sorry, but I have to. Anyone who fails a mandatory drug test has to be fired. And we found large quantities of drugs in your system.
TERESA: But, you can't! I'll get in so much trouble if I do! Please, please, Aunt Kayla! Please, don't fire me!
KAYLA: Teresa, do you think we're stupid?
TERESA: Well...
KAYLA: I'll rephrase that. Do you think we don't know what you've been doing?
TERESA: Y-you know? Who told you? Was it Anne? Did she rat me out?
KAYLA: Teresa, no one had to tell me. It's clear for everyone to see. The mood swings, the tiredness, the jumpiness, the paranoia. The loss of a whole order of syringes from the clinic. And, of course, let's not forget the nodding off.
TERESA: This is a witch hunt! That's what it is! Everyone's out to get me! You all have been since my first day here! If St. Jennifer did something like this, it would be perfectly fine!
KAYLA: Number one, Jennifer wouldn't do something like this. Number two, no one is out to get you. We would fire anyone who we found out was on drugs. Number three, we're not talking about Jennifer. We're talking about you.
TERESA: Do you want me to get down on my knees and beg? Because, I will.
Teresa got down on her knees.
TERESA: I will do anything. I swear, anything, Aunt Kayla. Just, please, don't fire me! I can't lose this job! If I lose this job, I'll have lost everything.
KAYLA: Get off the floor, Teresa.
Teresa stood up.
KAYLA: You wanna know what you can do? Get help. You have a very serious problem, Teresa, and you need some serious help. I suggest you get it before it's too late. But, I can't keep you on as an employee while you refuse to get help. I'm sorry. I won't enable you.
TERESA: Screw you! Screw this entire town! Everyone in this place can just go to hell!
Teresa took her bag out of her desk and walked away. Kayla got out her phone.
KAYLA: We need to talk.
Pause.
KAYLA: Oh, more than you can imagine, sis. How soon can you get back to Salem?

Looks like Kim is going to intervene for her daughter.
