Previews/Prelude A young, heavyset man (me, the author) walks past a large mansion. ANDRE DIMERA (From MyHourglass): Here we have a glorious, if somewhat creepy, mansion. And attached to it, a little roadside motel. However, this place is now the scene of a crime. Come. Let's look around. I walk closer to the mansion. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): That window on the second floor, the one on the right, is where we first see the woman. Let's go inside. I'm fairly sure it's all right, since it's up for sale now. But, who would want this place? I don't know. I walk through the door to a staircase. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): At the top of this staircase is where the second murder happened. It was just awful! She had the knife in her hand. He came rolling down the stairs. I'm sure his back broke almost instantly. And...well, let's just move on. I walk up the stairs. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): Of course, the victims had no idea what was coming to them, or what sort of people they were dealing with. Especially the woman. She was the most horrible, weirdest...best not to dwell on it. Let's go into her bedroom. Once in the bedroom, I look over the bed. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): You see, if you look closely, you can still see the indentation of where she slept. And this closet over here, I'm sure it's still got her clothes in it. I open the door and stare in astonishment, though it is not seen what I'm looking at. I close the door. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): Anyway. I walk out of the room and go towards another. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): Now, this was the boy's room...but, we won't go in there. Because, his favorite room was the parlor. I walk down the stairs, through a few rooms and into the parlor. I point to several stuffed and mounted animals. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): As you can see, his past time was taxidermy. Now, there was a vitally important scene here. There was a private dinner. And... I notice a picture on the wall. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): This picture plays a key role in one of the scenes...because...well, let's just go to hotel room one. I exit the parlor. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): You almost have to feel sorry for the boy. Being brought up by a woman like that would drive anybody to...let's go inside. I enter the first hotel room and go straight into the bathroom. ANDRE DIMERA (from MyHourglass): Now, this was the set of an important scene. I'm just glad they've cleaned it all up. You should've seen the blood, it was everywhere! And... I pull back the curtain on the shower to reveal Stephanie Johnson, who can only be seen from the shoulders up. She screams. Chapter 1 COMFORT SUITES - CHICAGO E.J. and Abby were making wild, passionate love to each other in a hotel room. The love making soon ended, and the two just stared at each other. ABBY: Wow! E.J.: That was bloody brilliant! ABBY: Definitely. It's just a shame that we can't have this all the time. E.J.: What do you mean? ABBY: Well, you're with Sami. E.J.: How many times have I told you, Abigail, I'm leaving Samantha. ABBY: And then what? It's not like we can just get married. E.J.: Since Father pushed me out of the company and disowned me, no. We don't have the money. ABBY: We need to figure something out. E.J.: And we will, love. Soon. ABBY: I hope you're right. Abby and E.J. got out of bed, put on their clothes, and went their separate ways. REALTY AGENCY A few hours later, Abby was sitting behind the desk at her job working for a realtor. Her boss, Chad, walked over and dropped a large sum of money on her desk. ABBY: What's this? CHAD: This is what you've just made me. ABBY: What do you mean? CHAD: That house you showed yesterday, the one on 42nd Street, they bought it. And, even better, they payed in cash. Count that up. Abby counted all of the money. ABBY: $400,000?! CHAD: Yep! Congrats, Abby. You made this company a lot of money. ABBY: Thanks. Um, Chad, do you mind if I just recount this one more time? CHAD: Sure. Just bring it back to my office when you're done with it. ABBY: Okay. Thanks. Chad walked away. Abby recounted. She was correct, it was $400,000. ABBY (thinking): $400,000. This is great! This could be my ticket out of here! Making sure that nobody was looking, Abby nonchalantly put the entire stack of money in her purse. She then, ver casually, walked out the door, got in her car, and drove away.

I can't believe Abby thinks she can just walk away with $400,000 of the real estate companies money.

Chapter 2 ROAD Abby drove over the long stretches of road. She was deep in the country now. She was beginning to feel tired, so, when she came to a deserted stretch of road, she pulled over, laid down in the back seat, and went to sleep. About an hour into her nap, she was woken up by a tap on the window. It was a policeman. ROMAN: Get out of the car. Abby rubbed her eyes, wiped some drool off her cheek, and got out. ABBY: Is there a problem, officer? ROMAN: That's my question for you. What da hell are you doing out here stopped on the side this deserted stretch of road? ABBY: Oh, that. You see, I...I'm from out of town. I've been driving all day, and I was feeling kinda tired. ROMAN: Can I see your papers, please? ABBY: Sure. Abby went into the car's glove box and showed Roman her papers. Roman got out a Breathalyzer, ROMAN: Breath. Abby breathed into the machine. ABBY: I haven't had anything today. Except for water, and maybe a glass of iced tea. ROMAN: I see. Roman put the Breathalyzer away. ROMAN: Do you know why I asked you to get out of the car, miss? ABBY: Not really...sir. ROMAN: Number one, I wanted to make sure everything was okay. Number two, you shouldn't just stop on the side of the road. It's potentially dangerous. ABBY: Yes, sir. ROMAN: If you feel tired, next time stop at a rest stop or a hotel. Understand? ABBY: Yes, sir. ROMAN: Now, I'm gonna let you off with a warning. Don't let me catch you again. ABBY: Yes, sir. I mean, no, sir, I won't. Abby got back in her car and drove away. It was soon raining hard. Just as night started to descend, Abby saw the glimmer of lights in the distance. It was the small town of Salem. She stopped at the first place she could find: a small motel connected to a big, slightly creepy mansion. She looked up and saw a woman in an upstairs window. It made her uneasy. She knocked on the door, which opened with a creak.

Chapter 3 MOTEL There was a man on the other side of the door. MAN: Please, come in. Come in. You must be soaking. Abby walked into the motel and the man shut the door. MAN: That is some storm out there. ABBY: It sure is. MAN: Well, welcome to the Alamain Motel. I'm Nicholas. ABBY: Abby. Abby Deveraux. Abby and Nicholas shook hands, Nicholas was a handsome man in his late 30s with a kind smile. NICHOLAS: Will you be staying long, Miss Deveraux? ABBY: No, just the night. Nicholas got out his book and wrote some things down in it. NICHOLAS: Just you? ABBY: Yep. NICHOLAS: Sign here, please. Nicholas handed Abby a pen and the book. She signed her name, then gave the two items back to Nicholas. NICHOLAS: Thank you. So, where are you from? ABBY: Chicago. I'm just on my way out of town. NICHOLAS: Have you had dinner yet? ABBY: No. NICHOLAS: I was just about to start some. You could join me, if you'd like. There was a sound like a crash. NICHOLAS: Excuse me. I'll be right back. Nicholas went up a nearby flight of stairs. Abby stayed downstairs looking over the hotel. NICHOLAS (VO): Was that really necessary, Aunt Viv? VIVIAN (VO): How else am I supposed to get your attention, boy? NICHOLAS (VO): I was with a customer. VIVIAN (VO): Oh, I saw your customer as she came in. I also heard about your dinner plans. And I'll tell you this, Nicholas, I won't have it! NICHOLAS (VO): What is the problem? VIVIAN (VO): Have you no brains, boy? I won't have you behaving in such a manner. No woman shall eat in my house, except me. NICHOLAS (VO): Aunt Viv... VIVIAN (VO): Don't you Aunt Viv me, boy! I'll not have you eating in the company of some cheap floozy. Probably in some kind of lustful situation like candlelight. NICHOLAS (VO): It's a harmless dinner... VIVIAN (VO); I won't discuss it any further. It disgusts me. Nicholas walked back down the stairs. NICHOLAS: Sorry about that. Just my Aunt Vivian. Now, as for dinner... ABBY: You know, maybe it would be best if I didn't join you. I don't wanna cause any trouble. NICHOLAS: No, it's no trouble. Aunt Viv is like that whenever someone new comes. She'll come around. Anyway, I want you to have dinner with me. ABBY: Okay. Sure. That sounds good. But, first, I'd like to change into some dry clothes. NICHOLAS: Yes, please do. Here's your key. Nicholas handed Abby a key. NICHOLAS: First door on the right. Has a number 1 on the front. Dinner should be ready by the time you get back. ABBY: Okay. Thanks. Abby turned, walked out the door and towards her hotel room.
