PHILIP AND CHLOE’S VERANDA
Later, after the last guest has left and the dishes are in the dishwasher, and Wesley has been tucked in his bed, Philip and Chloe share a lounge chair on their veranda which overlooks the lake. Chloe is snuggled up against Philip’s body as they watch the sunset through a cloudy sky and the boats sail in and out of Salem Harbor.
Chloe: I think everyone had a good time. Don’t you?
Philip: Oh definitely. Especially our son.
Chloe laughs.
Chloe: He was sooo worn out when I put him down. He was asleep before his head ever touched the pillow.
Philip looks over at Chloe and smiles wryly.
Philip: Maybe his parents can get some uninterrupted time tonight ... you know, for some adult activity.
Chloe smiles and kisses Philip.
Chloe: Mmmm. I like the sound of that. But can we stay out here a little while longer? I’m enjoying the moment.
Philip rubs Chloe’s back and he pulls her closer.
Philip: Me too.
Chloe: Looks like we may get some rain.
Philip: I love watching the rain with you. Reminds me of when we were kids on your parents’ front porch. Remember? We talked about being older and sitting on our own porch and watching the storm roll in.

PHILIP AND CHLOE’S VERANDA
Philip and Chloe are sharing a lounge chair on their veranda which overlooks the lake. The light drizzle that has been falling turns into a steady rain.
Chloe: It’s raining harder. We should go in.
Philip nods as they rise from their lounge chair. Chloe starts to walk toward the sliding glass doors leading to their bedroom, when Philip catches her hand and stops her. She turns around to look at him questioningly.
Philip: Wait. Let’s not go inside. Not yet. Dance with me.
Chloe: Philip! It’s raining.
Philip: Have you never danced in the rain before?
Chloe: Yes, silly. When I was like 16, I danced in the rain with you.
Philip: Then I’m sure you remember how it’s done.
Philip takes Chloe’s other hand and starts spinning her around, slowly at first, and then faster and faster. She starts squealing with glee, just like on that summer night when they were 16. As she whirls around, she sees Philip laughing too, and for a moment she sees the face of the teenage boy she first fell in love with. She realizes that this is the first time in ages that they have both felt this happy and carefree. Philip pulls her to him and puts his arm around her as they catch their breath.
Philip: I have a confession.
Chloe: Do I want to hear it?
Philip: I used to think the happiest day of my life was the day you married me.
Chloe: If there’s a “but” coming, you’re in big trouble, soldier.
Philip: Chloe, that was only the start of the happiest days of our lives. Every new day I get to spend with you becomes the happiest day of my life.
Chloe: Oh Philip, that’s so sweet.
He cups her face with his hand and kisses her softly as the raindrops fall on them.
Philip: And I get the feeling we’re not finished yet.

Wow. Just loved the ending. It was so sweet that the story end with them dancing in the rain like when they fell in love so many years ago. Thanks for the great story Kpatch. I really enjoyed it. Even if it was not my couple that was together in the end.

Wonderful story as always. Even though I liked Phillip and Melanie together, I like Chloe and Phillip together as well. Of course, I also liked Chloe with Brady... go figure!

Thanks for the wonderful story, kpatch!  I loved how you have woven Phloe's history into your story so beautifully. I think this just goes to show you what a great love story these two could have had if the writers had an ounce of creativity. I'm glad we get to have their story told here. |
