There has been recent speculation about two characters visiting Salem again! 

It has been rumored that Eileen Davidson will be reprising the role of Susan Banks during her 3 month stint in Salem. This is an excerpt from an article regarding Eileen's return:

There is some good news about Davidson's short Days return. Backstage sources reveal that she will be making appearances as Susan Banks this time around. So viewers may finally get to see scenes between James Scott (EJ) and Davidson as mother and son.

There is also speculation that Patsy Pease will be returning to Salem as Kimberly Brady for this year's Christmas episode. Jason47 has reported a twitter exchange between Bill and Susan Hayes & Patsy Pease. The Hayes tweeted that it was great to see Patsy again and Patsy responded that they always make coming into work fun!
