By SOD • Posted: May 2, 2014 After eight years in Salem, James Scott wraps up his run as EJ DiMera today, May 2, though with the show's production schedule, he will air well into the fall. "We are saddened but supportive of James Scott's decision to leave the show after eight years to take some personal time and pursue new projects," said NBC/Corday Productions in a statement to Digest. "His contribution to the show has been tremendous and we wish him the best always." In his own statement, Scott said, "I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to NBC, Sony and Corday, particularly Ken Corday, for the amazing 8 year run on Days of our Lives and for graciously supporting me in my decision in leaving the show to take personal time. To the unbelievably loving fans, I can’t begin to express my gratitude for your love and support over the years. I will miss you immensely." www.soapoperadigest.com

I certainly don't blame him, but with him and Sweeney leaving, I'd say Days is pretty much done.

I knew he was renegotiating his contract, but to hear TODAY was his last tape date,I didn't expect that.EJ may be a dirtbag on a good day,but I'll miss him.I don't blame him at all for wanting to leave, and wish him the best.

Thanks for posting this jaysdelina. I am not completely surprised but very saddened to hear this. I think Days will take a nose dive in the ratings after the departure of James and Alison. I have been enjoying his character a lot lately.

This may be a blessing in disguise. I wish James Scott the best but I think the EJ character was played out. I certainly hope the show is not dependent on one or two characters.

I'm with you kathyj. The show was around for 40 years before James Scott. I suppose EJ and Sami can ride off into the sunset together now. I am not sorry to see them go. The show made a mistake by spending so much air time on two characters. I am tired of the EJ and Sami show. Give others a chance to shine.

I noticed that James Scott and Alison Sweeney did not make the final cut for the Emmys. Not that it means anything but I needed to mention that.

I'm a fan of the show not just of two characters. It's not surprising that after 8 years he wants to try something else.

In my opinion, this would be an ideal time to bring back Philip. The show needs a grey character like that, and if it's Jay Johnson, all the better. At this point, the show should just open their checkbook and let Jay write his own ticket and dictate his own stories. They need someone besides Daniel to focus on, provide balance. To quote kathyj, not that it means anything, but I needed to mention that.

Well, I'm pretty surprised. I knew it was a possibility, esp. with Allison leaving. I'm most surprised that he made it to his last day of shooting w/o the info getting out. I do like EJ but I'm also kind of looking forward to seeing something new b/d the show has given so much air time to these two characters. There is a big hole to fill and I'm hoping they fill it with characters I miss and love. I agree that Phillip would be a great return. I'd even like to see Shawn and Belle. I DON'T want Daniel to be given any more screen time. He's got too much already.
Besides EJ and Sami, Victor and Stefano, probably won't be around much longer. I think Days needs to take this opportunity to make a major shift in the focus of the show and make some other fan bases happy as well as building new ones. If they hope to keep viewers with boring characters like Jordan it's just not going to work.
Back to topic, I'm really wondering about Sami and EJ now b/c today was James's last day and Allison just tweeted about working on the set. I wonder if they will leave together or not. It's interesting that EJ might leave before Sami. Maybe she'll kill EJ when she finds out about Abby and then get sent to jail for life.

I would LOVE to see Sami end up in prison for life. That would be hilarious.

That would be hilarious. You know that faux reveal episode had EJ imagine that Sami came at him with a letter opener. Maybe there was a foreshadowing there. It wouldn't be the first time she tried to kill him. That would be a great way for him to exit. Super dramatic, and of course, since no one ever stays dead, he could come back in the future, although I hope not.

Bummer, I was starting to like him and see potential in him being a bad guy with a heart of gold.
