I'm not surprised a bit that Ted and Robin ended up together. I am fine with that. What my hubby and I didn't like was that an entire season was spent leading up to Barney and Robin's wedding.
The show was never really about the mother. It was the friendships and the journey that they traveled together.

I was (and, to some degree, still am) super pissed at the ending. I'll grant you that the show was less about the mother and more about the core 5 friendships, but they spent 5/6 seasons telling us that Robin and Ted WEREN'T right for each other and an entire season leading up to the Swarkles wedding. I felt so let down when they were divorced within the first 15 mins of the finale. And then the writers crapped on 8 seasons of buildup only to end up right back where we started. MAJOR thumbs down from me. It's like the writers didn't even pay attention to what they'd been building and were steadfastly determined to do the ending they planned 8 years ago regardless of how their characters had changed and grown.

I don't think they ever dreamed the show would go 9 seasons. Maybe the message is about the timing needing to be right.
