How is everyone celebrating?
We've already broken into the Irish whiskey and have been enjoying some Irish coffee in the evening.
For St. Pat's, Ron is making his delicious corned beef, Irish soda bread, and sauteed (instead of boiled) cabbage.

It'll be Spring Break for me. Hooray!!! Normally I'd enjoy an adult beverage (or 2 or 20) but, alas, this year I can not. So I'll be chilling on the couch and wishing I could have a beer. Or wine. Or tequila. Or Jaeger. Or....

One of the best St. Patrick's Day I had was in Ireland. I went with a group of cousins (we are 3rd generation out) and we had lunch at a pub in the tiny town our family was from. Some of the family still there joined us -- in fact, one has the same name as my grandfather. It was a great experience. We toasted our great-grandparents, everyone took turns singing and we had corned beef, cabbage, bread pudding and beer. There was a cemetery in back of the pub and some men were digging a grave for one of their family members. After the grave was done they came in for a drink. They were dressed in suits and ties and high work boots.

I loathe this holiday...beer - gross...corned beef - double gross...cabbage - gag. Parades where the streets are littered with puke and drunk men pinching your a**! No thanks! LOL
My dad used to stink up the house cooking that mess when I was a kid and we weren't allowed to have anything else if we didn't like dinner so I had to sit at the table staring down a boiled potato smelling the nastiness. And then I married a man who does the same...UGHHHH!! LOL I hope he goes to his family's house for the festivities this year so he won't have to cook anything in ours.

We don't do anything on St. Patrick's Day. It will be a regular Monday night at my house. A couple years we went to a friends house for corned beef, cabbage and tacos. Her husband hates corned beef so she made tacos too.

We usually don't do anything special other than dressing in green. Spring Break always happens the same week, so nothing special at school.

Please tell me you make corned beef in the oven. It's like my husband somehow read this thread, because just earlier this afternoon he was talking about cooking for St Patty's day and inviting his parents over...which is like double NO to me. I am hoping to use our oven as a less witchy excuse to tell him no.

Her husband hates corned beef so she made tacos too. My stomach turned with that meal combo. LOl I love tacos...one of my favs...but those scents mixed with stinky cabbage...

St. Patrick's Day was never a big deal until I met Ron. He bakes the corned beef with a glaze and it is so delicious and the Irish Soda bread is an Ina Garten recipe which is moist and more like a dessert. Add in a good Irish beer and mmm mmm mmm. I am really looking forward to it.

She said the folks in the pubs (yes, she went to MANY pubs) loved that her name was Kelly and she was a St Patrick's Day baby. They all wanted to buy her drinks. Apparently she got hella hammered. Ireland is the best.

I think in honor or St. Patrick's Day I will stare at all of the great things that have come from Ireland. Like this for example:

You all will get a kick out of this. Hubby is Irish so we have convinced Katie that she is a leprechaun. The lore that I told her was that on St. Patrick's Day when the moon is green she will turn into a leprechaun and she will be able to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Lol.
