As a reader, is there an ideal length for chapters? How long do you want to spend reading a chapter?
I ask this because I am writing my next story and the chapters are running way longer than, for example, the chapters in Perfect Storm. In Perfect Storm, the chapters are about 300-400 words in length. My next story is running 800-1,000 words per chapter, sometimes more. I guess I am asking if I should break up the chapters so they are more like 500 words apiece. I want to be respectful of everyone's time, which I know is limited.
I appreciate your feedback.

I try to have my chapters be somewhere between 500 to 1,000 words each. Though occasionally they’ll become longer during special events such as weddings, funerals, graduations, holidays, etc. But I typically try to stick to the above.

I don't have an ideal length. If I'm enjoying the story then it doesn't matter to me how long chapters are.

My chapters generally run between 1200-1800 words, sometimes longer (I've ocassionally written up to 3200 words). I have always felt that story movement and keeping the reader interested is more important than length.

I'm okay with longer chapters. I think it depends on the scene or scenes in the individual chapter. Some may be longer than others depending on what's happening in the scenes.
