Chapter 680
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
The weekly morning staff meeting was wrapping up.
KAYLA: ...so those will be posted after the Easter holiday weekend. One final note, we have a new addition, or rather a returning addition to the Cardiology department. Dr. Sandy Horton returns to us after a long stint at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, California. So, that is another Dr. Horton on our staff. Welcome back.
A few people clapped. Lily and Tommy glanced at each other.
SANDY: Thank you. I’m glad to be back.
KAYLA: Are there any more items to discuss?
Kayla looked around the room. No one said anything.
KAYLA: Very well, then I motion to end this meeting.
SCOTTY: I second that motion.
DANIEL: I third it.
KAYLA: Motion carried. This meeting is adjourned. Have a good holiday weekend, everyone.
Several people began to shuffle out of the room.
LILY: Well, I have to go. It’s time for one of my patient’s therapy sessions.
TOMMY: Have a good day. I’ll see you tonight.
Lily nodded, then walked out. Tommy walked over to Sandy.
TOMMY: I had thought Lily had told me that you were here.
SANDY: Well, as you can see, she’s right.
Tommy nodded.
TOMMY: I hope you’re doing this for the right reasons, Sandy.
SANDY: Come on, Dad, you know that I’ve always been enthusiastic about cardiology.
TOMMY: That’s not what I mean, and you know it.
SANDY: I do. And I can’t help it if you and Lillian don’t believe that I’m doing this for pure reasons. Think what you want.
Tommy shook his head as he watched Sandy walk out.
BRADY PUB
Sami was sitting in one of the booths, typing on her laptop. Her phone rang and she answered.
SAMI: Hello? Hello?
Sami couldn’t hear anything on the other end of the line. Then, she heard someone breathing heavily.
SAMI: Who’s this? Who’s calling? Look, if this is some kind of stupid prank, I’m really not in the mood. So, screw you.
Sami hung up her phone and shook her head. A few minutes later, the door opened, she casually glanced up to see who walked in, then went back to her typing. She stopped and looked up again.
SAMI (thinking): What the hell? Is that…?
Sami pulled out her cell phone and dialled a number.
WILL & SONNY’S APARTMENT
Will had just finished telling Sonny about his encounter the other day.
SONNY: Mia McCormick?
WILL: Yeah, the one I told you about. The one I dated back in high school before I was ready to admit who I really was. Before I even really knew myself what I really was.
SONNY: Wow. She really as bad as you and Chad make her out to be?
WILL: Yeah. She tried to play us off one another, tried to ruin our friendship, and my friendship with Gabi.
SONNY: Thank God she didn’t succeed.
Will nodded.
WILL: And she’s not gonna succeed this time.
SONNY: That’s for sure. We’ve come too far to let some person one of us was with back in high school come between us.
WILL: Exactly. If Mia thinks she’s gonna come between us or Chad or anyone else, she’s got another thing coming to her.
Will’s phone rang.
WILL: One sec.
Will picked up his phone.
WILL: Hello?
BRADY PUB
SAMI: Tell me that I did not just see the person I think I saw.
ALAMAIN MANSION
TRIX: Right...well...sorry, I don’t really know what to say.
LAWRENCE: That’s quite alright. It’s been rather a shock to a lot of people around here.
TRIX (thinking): Makes sense now why Gran hasn’t moved back in yet.
NICHOLAS: Still, it’s good to have you home. It’s good to have both of you home.
TRIX: Yeah. I’m...just gonna go unpack my things.
NICHOLAS: All right. Your room is all ready for you. Aunt Viv made sure the servants kept it the way you like it.
TRIX: Cheers. Good to see you, Dad. Grandad.
Trix walked up the stairs.
LAWRENCE: Well, that was certainly a nice surprise.
NICHOLAS: Yes. You’ll have to excuse Trix, it’s just...well, I’m sure by now you know how things look.
LAWRENCE: I am well aware that my return is a shock to many people, yes. And I’m certain that that is the reason for Beatrix seeming nervous just now.
NICHOLAS: Exactly.
LAWRENCE: Add to that the fact that the last time she saw me she was five years old...well, it’s been a long time. A lot has changed.
NICHOLAS: Indeed they have. Anyway, you said that we needed to talk about something?
LAWRENCE: I did. Follow me.
Nicholas followed Lawrence up to his study.
NICHOLAS: What’s going on? What’s this all about?
LAWRENCE: It is about that von Amburg woman that was here a few days ago.
NICHOLAS: Greta? What does she have to do with anything?
LAWRENCE: More than you would think.
NICHOLAS: What’s that supposed to mean?
LAWRENCE: I wasn’t entirely truthful with you when you asked if anything that she said was true.
NICHOLAS: How do you mean?
DIMERA MANSION
Abby was, once again, looking over the book. Chad walked down the stairs.
CHAD: Morning.
ABBY: Good morning.
Chad and Abby kissed.
CHAD: Everything good with dropping Thomas off at daycare?
ABBY: Yep, just as good as always. How’d the phone call go?
CHAD: Great. Tony and I are working on a deal with the office in China and it looks like it’s close to being complete.
ABBY: Well, that’s good.
CHAD: So, you still looking over at the book?
ABBY: Yeah. I find it really interesting.
CHAD: So do I. Have you found out anything about that picture on the inside front cover?
ABBY: Not exactly. I have a suspicion about it, but I don’t know if I’m right for sure or not. Thomas has a check up after daycare today, so I’m gonna ask Aunt Kayla about that then.
CHAD: Makes sense. Just for kicks, what’s your suspicion?
