Thank goodness Phillip was able to figure out a way to see Chloe. I just hope he can figure out what is going on.

Chapter 20
He was dying to rush to Chloe, take her in his arms and make everything okay. But her body language was closed off and he was at a bit of a loss as to what to do. So he gestured toward a wicker sofa near where he was standing, and waited for her to approach.
She eyed Philip suspiciously as she walked toward him, twisting a strand of her hair around her finger. She sat down on the sofa, and when he sat down next to her, she moved to the far end of the couch and held on to the sofa arm as if it were a life jacket. She glanced over at him. “Philip, what are you doing here?”
That simple question cut Philip like a knife. Now he had his answer. She was not happy to see him. “I was concerned about you. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other.”
“Whose fault is that?” Her question sounded accusatory.
“Mine. You’re right. I take full responsibility for everything that happened between us.” He started reaching for her hand but pulled himself back. “I’m sorry Chloe. I’m sorry for everything.”
“It’s a little late for that,” she said.
“Is it? Why? Why is it too late? Because as far as I’m concerned, it’s never too late, not for us. I told you I’d never give up on us, and I meant it.”
Chloe scowled at Philip. “I don’t even know you.”
Philip swallowed the lump in his throat. Every word she said, every look she gave him reeked of hostility. “Yes you do, Chloe. I’m the same Philip I’ve always been. Well ... maybe a little more humble now.”
“You? Humble?” She chuckled. “I remember what a conceited jerk you were in high school.”
Philip laughed. Finally, he felt a connection between them. “No argument there.”
“You wouldn’t even give me the time of day.”
Philip looked toward the wall of the solarium and the room faded away. His mind’s eye saw a 16 year old Philip taunting Chloe, the new girl at school, along with his friends. He remembered how awful he was to Chloe in the beginning. He was the most popular boy at school and he couldn’t let anyone see how attracted he was to ghoul girl, his attraction to her growing every time she stood up for herself and turned the tables on him. It was as if she was issuing a challenge that made him want to break down those walls she put up around her. “At first, but I made up for it, didn’t I?”
Chloe got a faraway look in her eye and she spoke slowly and quietly. “I had a dream about high school. I’ve been having a lot of dreams since I’ve been here and I dreamt that we were dating and we were in love.”
“That’s right,” Philip said, “that’s where it all began for us.”
“And then I woke up. And it was over.”
“Sweetheart, it’s not over. There is no ending for us.” He leaned toward her and took her hand from her lap.
She jumped up from the sofa, pulling away from Philip. “Are we finished here? I want to go back to my room.”
Philip stood up and looked at Chloe. “No. No, we’re not done. We’ll never be done.” He knew he should be careful about what he said to Chloe, and that he sounded obsessed like he did a decade ago when she broke up with him and told him that she’d chosen Brady. He knew she was fragile and excitable, but he couldn’t leave her like this. “Chloe, I love you. I’m going to be waiting for you when you get out.”
Chloe looked at Philip quizzically. “You shouldn’t wait for me. Daniel is going to be waiting.”
Oh god. Those were the words he was hoping never to hear. “Daniel? So it’s true? The two of you are ....”
“Back together,” she said, looking at Philip for the first time. It sounded like she was reciting a speech from memory. “When I get out, we’re going to be a family again, me, Daniel and Parker, just like we were always supposed to be.”
Philip looked down. He didn’t know what to say to that. He felt exactly the way he did in high school when Chloe broke up with him and told him she was in love with Brady. Only this was worse. He was far more wrapped up in Chloe now than he ever was. And he was the only one who knew that he was Parker’s father, not Daniel. He hesitated before speaking. “What about me?” God, that sounded so pathetic, but he didn't care.
“What about you?” She sounded so detached and unemotional, like she didn’t care about him at all.
He thought about New Year’s Day when she pulled Parker away from him and reminded him that Daniel was the boy’s father. There was an intentional cruelty about her then, and he felt it again now.
“I mean, what about us?”
“There’s no us, Philip, you know that. And you don’t need to come visit me anymore.”
Chloe walked toward to the door, opened it, and left.
Philip sank into a wicker chair with his head in his hands.

Poor Philip. I hope he realizes that something is wrong with Chloe. Even if she's mad at Philip she would certainly ask about Parker. She doesn't ask Daniel about Parker either. That should be a huge red flag.

Chapter 21
Dr. Newman glanced at his watch. He was stuck in traffic and was running a little late for his “meeting.” He pressed the telephone button on his car phone and waited for an answer.
“Hello,” a woman’s sultry voice came over his car phone speaker.
“Hi babe, it’s Paul. I’m running a little late.”
“Paul! Where are you? I’m waiting in my hotel room all alone. I’ve got the champagne chilling and my body warming. In fact, I’m wearing your favorite lingerie ... nothing,” she laughed.
“Oh man, you shouldn’t give me those visuals while I’m on the road. I may get into an accident.”
“I wouldn’t want that to happen. It would wreck all my plans for tonight.”
“With any luck, I’ll be inside your room in 15 minutes. Ciao.”
“Paul, wait. You still there?”
“Yes.”
“How’s Chloe doing?”
“Babe, you know I can’t discuss my patients with you.”
“Don’t give me that. You know I’m not interested in your patients, just Chloe.”
Paul sighed. “She’s the same. She’s under sedation, she’s having more frequent lapses of memory, and I increased the dose on her electroshock therapy. Happy?”
“I want to know more about those memory lapses. Big lapses or little lapses?”
“I don’t know. In layman’s terms, medium lapses.”
“Not good enough. I won’t be happy until she forgets everything and everyone she ever loved.”
“What’s with this big vendetta, Kate? She doesn’t seem like a horrible person.”
“Oh my god, not you too! Don’t you see? That appearance of innocence is what makes her so dangerous, especially to my son and Parker.”
“Look, I’ve done everything you’ve asked so far. The sedation, the shock treatments, the seclusion from everyone but Daniel, the hypnotic suggestions telling her that Philip has abandoned her and Daniel is her savior, the whole nine yards. I even told Daniel she’s having involuntary seizures more frequently so he won’t question her treatments. I hate lying to a friend! And I can tell you I’m losing sleep over it. What we’re doing to that girl is beyond unethical.”
“Oh please Paul. It’s not like you’re doing any of that out of the goodness of your heart. You know very well that I control the purse strings at The Oaks, and I’ll cut off your funding without thinking twice if you don’t do what I tell you to do. ... Remember what it was like before, how The Oaks was struggling and about to close its doors before I came to your rescue with financial backing?”
“I know, I know. You remind me about that almost every day.”
“If you don’t continue to do what I say, I’ll also cut off our liaisons ... although I’m not sure that I mean as much to you as the foundation grant I control.”
“Some days, it’s a toss-up.”
“Don’t be flip,” Kate said. “When you get to the hotel, I want to talk to you about next steps.”
“Not much more I can do to her, Kate.”
“That’s where you’re wrong. I want her to get daily shock treatments.”
“Kate, I can’t do that. It takes patients at least a day to re-acclimate after each treatment. They’re dazed and confused for the first 24 hours.”
“We don’t want her to re-acclimate, you idiot! If she’s dazed and confused, she can’t hurt my family. That’s my goal. So do it! That’s an order.”
There was a click, then a mechanical voice came through the speakerphone. “Your call has ended.”

I shouldn't be surprised at the lengths Kate will go to in order to keep Chloe away from Kate's family. This is absolutely cruel. Poor Chloe. At this rate she'll end up institutionalized for the rest of her life.

Chapter 22
Philip pounded the horn on his steering wheel over and over as he drove back to the mansion. He wasn’t honking at anyone in particular, just getting his anger out. Philip thought about those other times he’d lost Chloe to another man. He wouldn’t accept it. He never did accept it. He basically went berserk, chopping down trees and destroying everything in his path like an unstoppable tornado. Right now, he just wanted to hit something, hurt someone, not a good state of mind for a man behind the wheel of a two-ton vehicle.
Something didn’t sit right with Philip and he couldn’t quite place it. There was an ache in his stomach that just wouldn’t go away and he knew no amount of antacids would cure it. Chloe wasn’t herself today, but it was more than that. She treated Philip as if he were a stranger. She was unemotional and uninterested. Even when she talked about Daniel, she sounded rehearsed, detached. Something was definitely off.
He had overheard Daniel telling Brady that Chloe was having seizures more and more frequently. She looked liked she’d been put through the wringer too. She told him not to come back, but damn it, wild horses wouldn’t keep him away. He owed it to Parker to do everything in his power to help her. He owed it to Chloe. If she wasn’t getting better at The Oaks, he would have her transferred to a facility in Chicago, just like he wanted to from the start.
But everyone kept reminding him that he wasn’t responsible for Chloe anymore and he should just stay out of it. “Bull,” he mumbled. “Not in this lifetime.”
He decided he was going back again as soon as he could. They had more to talk about and he was far from finished. They needed to talk about their life together. They needed to talk about Parker. One way or the other, he was going to make sure Chloe got well, and nothing and no one on this earth was going to stop him.

I'm glad that Philip isn't giving up on Chloe. I hope he gets to visit again soon. Poor Chloe needs someone to realize that things are very very wrong. And Parker needs his mom back healthy.
