OMG, I almost missed this. Wow, no wonder Vivian looked so depressed in Thursday's episode. I love her, but I thought her story was heading in a very stupid direction, more stupid than normal stupid.
As for John and Marlena, they are okay. Not a big fan. I'm not at all surprised by this return. But now I am concerned that they are going to get a lopsided amount of airplay as they have in the past, just what Corday said would not happen. We shall see.

I am guessing that J&M returning will be a huge ratings boost even if it's for a short time. TPTB are hopefully putting them in a big umbrella story involving the fallout from the Rafes. A lot of story could be done with John and the DiMeras. Marlena would have some new patients to work with...Chloe, Nicole and Melanie come to mind. I agree that we don't need any more stories of them breaking up and getting back together. They are well past that.

I'm actually torn about the best use of J&M. Like Mikey and JKJPatch noted, I don't think using them as they have been in the past will work and I don't want to see any one character/couple hogging all the screen time. On the other hand, the flops with other returning vets is because nothing was really changed about the show itself and the vets were used to support/prop the stories being led by characters that I personally think are every bit as ill fit if not more so to lead stories as J&M. It doesn't matter what vets return if the show still tries to build everything around the EJ/Rafe/Sami trio. The sooner TPTB get that through their very thick skulls the better. They have to truly change the show at its core - I don't just mean shuffling characters in and out but the kinds of stories they tell, how they tell them and making them overlap so that there is a true ensemble cast rather than a handful of characters who are involved in everything while the characters who really should be involved get neglected. I don't like any one character/couple enough (not even Lumi) that I want to see them dominating the show - of all the changes that need to be made on Days, that is probably the most fundamental one that needs to happen.

^^^^ Great post KAZZ!!! We need more of the stories that involve multiple characters from different generations. The stories get ridiculous when they always focus on just a few characters.

It seems so pointless with Louise Sorel leaving the show. They should have edited out these scenes and dropped the whole storyline. It seems even stupider when a woman has a child that has never been mentioned. At least men have the excuse that they never knew the woman was pregnant. Maybe she will take Quinn with her when she leaves.
