Chapter 49

SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
ERIC: The only thing we need now, is a way to lure the Devil out to this location.
KAYLA: How do you propose we do that?
ERIC: I was just thinking that we text her and the Devil will come.
KAYLA: It can't be from you.
ERIC: Why not?
KAYLA: Because, the Devil would know it's a trap.
MATT: Dr. Brady is right, Eric. One text from you and the Devil would know he's been caught.
KAYLA: We need someone that the Devil won't expect. Someone he's hurt, but a person he wouldn't think would be out for revenge.
They heard a woman clear their throat. Eric, Kayla and Father Matt looked over and saw Theresa.
THERESA: Perhaps I can be of some assistance?
Eric walked over.
ERIC: Theresa, how are you?
THERESA: Better. A lot better.
ERIC: Good to know.
Eric put a hand on Theresa's shoulder.
THERESA: Whatever it is you're planning, however you want to get rid of the Devil, i want to help.
KAYLA: How did you know about the Devil?
THERESA: There was...an incident.

SALEM PLACE - FLASHBACK
A flashback to a few weeks earlier. Theresa had just come out of an AA meeting. She was passing by Benchy when a man came up to her.
MAN: Hey, babe.
Theresa jumped when she saw him.
THERESA: What the hell are you doing here?
MAN: I'm here to see you.
THERESA: What do you want?
MAN: To offer you an excellent score.

Sounds like maybe Theresa met the devil...

Chapter 50

SALEM PLACE - FLASHBACK
THERESA: Thanks, but no thanks.
MAN: Oh, come on, girl. You're my best customer.
THERESA: Well, not anymore. I've had a change of heart.
MAN: Since when?
THERESA: Since a few days ago.
MAN: Come on. One more hit? For old time's sake.
Theresa turned away.
THERESA: No.
The man grabbed her.
THERESA: Get your hand off of me!
MAN (distorted voice): I don't think so, Jeannie Donovan.
Theresa turned and looked at the man, who is, of course, the Devil.
NICDEVIL (as Man): Now, how exactly would I know your name?
Theresa flinched and stepped back. NicDevil morphed into her natural form.
THERESA: Nicole?
NICDEVIL: Try again. Not Nicole, but someone using her body.
THERESA: There's only one person who can do that. And it's not natural.
NICDEVIL: Either way, it's the truth. and you will give in to temptation, Jeannie Donovan.
THERESA: No, I refuse!
NICDEVIL: Then, you'll face my wrath.
NicDevil morphed back into the drug dealer. He took Theresa by the throat.
NICDEVIL (as Man): If you won't obey me, I can always force you to.
The Devil, as the drug dealer started kissing Theresa's neck.
THERESA: Get off of me!
NICDEVIL (as Man): I don't think so.
As the Devil in the guise of a man continued kissing Theresa's neck, he put a hand on her rear. He got closer and tugged at Theresa's dress. Theresa kicked him where it hurt. The Devil stepped away and bent over in pain.
NICDEVIL (as Man): That was the last mistake you'll ever make.
Eric walked up.
ERIC: What is going on here?

No wonder Teresa wants to help them.

Chapter 51

SALEM PLACE - FLASHBACK
ERIC: What's going on here?
The Devil in the guise of a drug dealer took his hands off of Theresa and backed away.
NICDEVIL (as Man): Nothing. Nothing at all.
He winked at Theresa.
NICDEVIL (as Man): Later, babe.
He walked away.
ERIC: Theresa? What's going on?
Theresa looked over at Eric.
THERESA: You saved me.
ERIC: What?
THERESA: That guy, he wasn't a guy at all. He's the Devil. He was posing as a drug dealer. He was trying to convince me to relapse. And, when I refused, he got angry and started touching me and pulling at my dress. I don't want to think about what he would have done if you hadn't come.
ERIC: Did he hurt you?
THERESA: No, but he was about to.
ERIC: Are you okay?
Theresa shook her head.
THERESA: No, I'm not. I'm definitely not okay. I'm scared. I'm really scared.
Eric walked over to Theresa, put an arm around her and rubbed her back. She was shaking and a tear ran silently down her face.
ERIC: It's okay. You're safe now. It's all right.
THERESA: Thanks for saving me.
ERIC: You're welcome. Hey, why don't we go find someplace to sit down and talk? Does that sound okay?
Theresa nodded.
THERESA: That sounds nice.

SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
THERESA: So, Eric saved me and calmed me down. He also explained to me all of the other things that the Devil's been doing lately. This afternoon, I went to the church to talk to you, Eric, and I was told that you were here. Like I said, I want to help if I can.
ERIC: We'd love it if you could help in any way, Theresa. We'll need help from as many people as we can get.
MATT: Eric's right. And much must be done if this is to be a success.
KAYLA: So, what's the plan?
