I agree with all those storylines that you mentioned..but those were all done when the show knew how to tell a story. They used those deaths to propel stories and alter the the paths of many characters. Now..it seems that they use the death of a character as on exit plan. If they had killed Jack off back in the early 90's say right after he married Jennifer, do you believe that she would have went chasing another man days after his death? Would they have not bothered with a funeral? I don't believe so. Back then they would have shown her pain and her struggle to move on. I also agree that they have destroyed the character of Jennifer, at least when they killed him off in 2003 they showed her mourn him before jumping into bed with Frankie three months later..they still played her..I thought struggling with it. This last death for him was quick and swept under the rug..it was it was a quick way to write Jack( and Madison) off , with no real thought put into what to do after it other then send her after Daniel. That's the kind of senseless death I mean. In a case like that was a death really necessary? They could have had him leave on that book tour and ended their relationship off screen or something else The same for Madison..was the only way to have her die?. I just like they play the death card too often.

I guess I only disagree in the sense that I don't think deaths are necessarily more common today than they were. In 1990, for instance, they killed a large number of characters on Days. Just off the top of my head, they killed Marina, Simon Prescott, Ernesto Toscano, Hope, Steve, Nick, Leopold, and Emilio in relatively short order. But all were done as part of storylines or with some follow-through.
The difference, as you say, is that the show knew how to tell stories. Jennifer right now should be wallowing in guilt over how she treated Jack, not worrying about whether Daniel is her friend or not.

Again I agree..I don't believe it's the number of deaths..I think it's the way they use them that I object to. I totally agree also about Jennifer. There are so many things for her to feel guilty about in regards to Jack, but they are more concerned with getting her back on track with Daniel. But that is a whole other topic that you DO NOT want to get me started on
