I'm relieved to know that Philip is okay. If only Chloe knew he was safe even if she couldn't talk to him.

Ohhhh Philip so glad he is alive and safe hiding. Hopfully they won't need the whole year of supplies. If only Chloe could know. Thanks for the chapter I have been anxious to know what was happening to Philip. Wonder what news Chloe could be getting later this week.

All this talk of torture. OMG. I never really thought about this as torturing the couple, but I see your point. I'm not a huge fan of triangles, so I need to find other ways to create drama for the characters. And now that I said that, I'll tell you that I have a couple of very triangular stories coming up down the road so I guess it's unavoidable. LOL. I'm glad you're enjoying the story guys. Thanks so much for your comments. I love reading them!

LAKE HOUSE FRONT YARD
Chloe returned from her daily trip to Joann’s Fabric Store and was adding another yellow ribbon to the oak tree. There were 14 ribbons hanging from the lowest branches of the tree and Chloe tied a bow on the 15th one as a car drove up and parked in front of the house.
Chloe looked up to see the Maestro coming toward her. He took her hand and kissed it.
Maestro: Chloe, my dear, I stayed away as long as I could. I wanted to give you some time. No word on your husband? Chloe looked off into space and shook her head no. Maestro: When are you coming back to the theater? Chloe: Coming back? I’m not coming back. Maestro: But you must, my dear. Chloe: No, I don’t care about opera anymore. I don’t care about anything. Maestro: You care about your children. Chloe: Well yes, of course. Maestro: And you care about your husband. Chloe looked up at the ribbons. Maestro: There are people at the Salem Opera House who are counting on you my dear. They all have husbands and wives and children, but without you, they have no job. You mustn’t let them down. Do you understand me dear? Chloe: Yes. Yes, I do, but I just don’t have the heart to ... Chloe’s tears began flowing freely and Maestro handed her a handkerchief. Maestro: To what, my dear? Chloe: To ... to go on without him. To be on that stage and to look out into the audience and not see him sitting there, front-row center, where he promised me he’d be on opening night. Maestro: Chloe dear, even if he isn’t with you in body, he’ll be there in spirit. Chloe: That’s not enough. Maestro: Did I ever tell you the story of the first time Mr. Kiriakis called me to offer me the position with the Salem Metropolitan Opera Company? Chloe: No, you didn’t. Maestro: I had no idea who he was until he told me he was your husband. He told me he had heard you speak of me often, and it was important to him that I be the one to work with you here in Salem. You could say he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. Chloe: Philip doesn’t hear the word “no.” Maestro: So I learned. And Madam, he wouldn’t want you to say "no" either. Chloe: I know you’re right Maestro. This is ... it’s just so hard. I mean, "The Merry Widow"? How could a widow ever be merry? Maestro: I understand. But Madam, you must always remember that your husband built the opera house for you. He did it out of love. His love for you. This was his dream for you. You would be honoring him by performing. Chloe wiped her tears away with the handkerchief and nodded.
To be continued ...

I think it will help Chloe to have something to focus on part of the day as she waits for news about Philip. Her singing was the only thing that helped her feel better when she was growing up.

Maestro is right. When Philip gets back he would be so disappointed if Chloe wasn't singing. He did that for her and would want her to sing.

I hope he convinces her to come back! Philip would be so disappointed if she didn't and being busy will help the time go faster & to help her not keep thinking of him being away.
