Chapter 42 CEMETERY All of Philip's friends and family gathered at the cemetery. Among them were some of his friends and fellow soldiers from his army days. One of his former fellow soldiers had been promoted to commander. All of the men in uniform had guns. COMMANDER: Philip Kiriakis served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. Both were ended due to wounds received in combat. But, for outstanding courage, we give him a medal of bravery. For his courage, bravery, and willingness to fight for his country, even after he had lost his leg the first time around, we honor him with a twenty-one gun salute. The army me nicked up their gins and fired off the salute. After the salute, the commander and one of the others walked up to the casket, which had the American flag draped across it. They picked up the flag and folded it until it was in a small, tiangular shape. Because Melanie was dead, the soldiers gave Chloe the medal and the folded-up flag. The soldiers then saluted as a trumpeter played"Day is Done". Once the song was finished, the commander nodded to the priest, who walked up to the casket. PRIEST: And now, brothers and sisters in Christ, we have reached the final resting place. And although we know that this is the end of his life on this earth, we may take comfort knowing that his eternal life in heaven has just begun. It is written in the Holy Gospel according to Saint John, the third chapter, beginning with the sixteen verse: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him". Forasmuch as it hath pleased Almighty God of his great mercy to take unto himself the soul of our dear brother, Philip, here departed, we therefore commit his body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall change our vile body, that it may be like unto his glorious body, according to the mighty working, whereby he is able to subdue all things to himself. We pray. Everyone bowed their heads and folded their hands. PRIEST: Dear Lord, we ask that you take our brother Philip into your arms. We ask that you bring comfort to his friends and family during this time. And we ask that you continue to watch over us and bless us now and all the days of our lives. Amen. ALL: Amen. Brady walked up to the casket. BRADY: Thank you, Father. There will be a dinner at the Kiriakis Mansion this afternoon. I invite you all to come. It's very casual, so you can all run home and change out of your dress clothes. But, we're gonna have some good food, good friends, and great memories of Philip.

I don't understand why they wouldn't give the flag to Parker. Strange.

Chapter 43 KIRIAKIS MANSION Quite a number of people showed up for the dinner. At one point during the night, Max and Morgan were talking. MAX: Hey. How are you doing? MORGAN: All right. You? MAX: I'm good. MORGAN: Thanks again for the teaching job. MAX: No problem. So, how are you doing with all this? MORGAN: Okay, I guess. I kinda regret some of the stuff I said last time Philip and I saw each other. MAX: What do you mean? MORGAN: Well, that was around the time that my father died. And, I blamed Philip for it. I mean, I know it wasn't his fault, but I was just so upset... MAX: I get it. The circumstances were bad and things had happened before between them. MORGAN: Yeah. I liked Philip a lot. MAX: I know. He was a good guy. MORGAN: Almost as good as you. MAX: Thanks. Morgan kissed Max. It took Max a moment to realize what was going on. Then, he pulled away. Meanwhile, Parker was upstairs taking things out of a suitcase and putting them in drawers. Chloe walked in. CHLOE: Hey, Park. PARKER: Hey. CHLOE: Aren't you gonna come down for dinner? PARKER: In a few minutes, once I finish unpacking. CHLOE: Unpacking? But, you're not staying here. PARKER: Yes I am. I asked Uncle Brady if he would let me stay here and he said yes. CHLOE: But, what about me and your father? Parker turned around. PARKER: My father is dead! The man you're married to, Daniel Jonas, is not my father! He never has been! Philip Kiriakis is my real father!

Yep. This story is a continuation of "Summer Breeze" and "Summer Breeze II: The End of Summer", so it's set 14 years (give or take) in the future. And, at some point in the interim 14 years between the present and this story, Chloe and Daniel got married.

Chapter 44 KIRIAKIS MANSION Morgan kissed Max. It took him a minute to realize what was happening. But, when he did, Max pulled away. MAX: What are you doing? MORGAN: I was givin' you a kiss, sugar. MAX: I got that part but...you do know that I'm with Chelsea, right? MORGAN: You are? MAX: Yep. MORGAN: Oh, I'm sorry. No, I didn't know that. MAX: Oh. Okay. I guess I should have mentioned that earlier. MORGAN: I'm real sorry, Max. MAX: No, don't be. It's okay. It's my fault, actually. I probably should have told you sooner. MORGAN: I, um...I gotta go. MAX: Morgan, wait! Morgan ran off in the other direction. Max sighed. Meanwhile, upstairs: CHLOE: Parker, you know as well as I do that we don't know who your real father is. PARKER: You don't. But, I do, CHLOE: How could you? PARKER: Because I did a D.N.A. test. CHLOE: D.N.A. tests are easy to fake. PARKER: Well, I was tired of being taken back and forth between Daniel and Philip. Tired of wondering which one was my father. You know, for a while, I had to wonder if either one really was my father at all. And since I'm not scared of D.N.A. tests like you are, I took a lock of hair from you, Philip, and Daniel. Then, I had them tested against mine. You know who was a match? You and Philip. You know who wasn't? Daniel. CHLOE: But, that's impossible. You were supposed to be Daniel's. PARKER: So, the truth finally comes out. You didn't Want another test done because you didn't trust them anymore. You didn't have another test done because you didn't want the truth to come out! You wanted to stay in this perfect little world where you, me, and Daniel were a happy little family. But all this time, you've known. You've known in the back of your head that I was never Daniel's child to begin with! CHLOE: No, I didn't. I swear, I didn't. How could I have? PARKER: Come on, mom! It's obvious! Do I look anything like Daniel? Do I have a really stupid looking face? Do I take long pauses every three words? No! But you know what I do have? Dimples! I have the exact same dimples as Philip Kiriakis! And I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I am his son!

Wow, Parker is so mean to his mother...It's nice he knows who his real Dad is but he still has no right to be so mean to her.

Parker was really mean to Chloe. I do understand him doing his own DNA test though. I bet Philip secretly did one too years ago.

Chapter 45 KIRIAKIS MANSION CHLOE: Parker Kiriakis, stop this! Stop it right now! PARKDER: Why should I? CHLOE: Because I am your mother and I said so! Now, sit down! Parkder sat on the bed. CHLOE: Now, I understand that you are angry with me. I understand that you wanted to get to know your real father better. Trust me, I get that. But, that does not give you the right to talk to me that way! We all make mistakes, Parker. Every single one of us. There is not a person alive on this earth who doesn't make mistakes. And, yes, one of mine was not finding out, maybe even not wanting to find out, whether or not Philip was your real father. But whether he is or not, I am still your mother, and you do not get to talk to me like that. For the rest of the night you will sit up here in this room. No TV. No video games. And you will think about what you've done. PARKDER: Okay. CHLOE: As for whether you stay here or not...Brady and I will discuss that. I'll be back when the party's over. Chloe exited. Parker laid back on the bed and sighed. PHILIP (VO): She is right, you know. Parker sat up. PARKER: Who's that? PHILIP (VO): Who do you think? Philip appeared. PARKER: Dad? But, how can you be here? PHILIP'S GHOST: I'm not. Not really. I'm a ghost. A spirit, if you like. PARKER: Thanks, but I'm not old enough. Philip chuckled. PHILIP'S GHOST: No, not that kind of spirit. A spirit as in an apparition. As I said, a ghost. PARKER: So, you're here, but you're not really here. PHILIP'S GHOST: Precisely. Philip sat on the bed next to Parker. PHILIP'S GHOST: Now, my son, we have a lot to talk about. And time is short. DIMERA MANSION JOHNNY: When do we strike next? ANDRE: In a few days. During the funeral. It's the last thing they'll be expecting.
