Steve is picking at his burger. Kayla is asking him questions about his lunch but he responds with grunts. He can’t stop thinking about his visit with Not So Deceased Abby.
Kayla says she knows how strange it is to be around “Abigail”. Steve is still fixated on why she lied about being on the phone with Kayla. Kayla thinks the story is plausible. She knows Steve’s look. She knows he doesn’t believe her.
Steve thinks Fabby’s explanation seemed thin. Kayla says so you think she was lying. Steve mutters about it. Kayla says why not just say outright you don’t believe this girl is Abigail?
Steve doesn’t know if he believes she is Abigail. She was talking to Stefano’s portrait and talking about a brother, but why would she be talking to her dead father in law about a brother she doesn’t remember? He tells her about telling Fabby when he thought he was somebody else and that she got defensive and mentioned her DNA test. Steve says how many times have tests in this town be tampered with. And lets talk about the new face. Abby was stabbed in the abdomen, why would she need reconstructive surgery? Kayla says she was in an accident she doesn’t remember. Steve says that’s what she says. He has a lot of questions. He wants Kayla to run another DNA test, just between them.
Kayla will not perform a test on Fabby behind her back to give the results to Steve. It would be a huge violation of her rights. Steve says ‘come on Kayla’. Kayla says that’s his argument? Steve throws in a ‘sweetness’. Kayla tells “Stephen Earl Johnson” not to sweetness at her. Steve mutters that she is using the middle name. Kayla says deservedly so. She understands that he is suspicious, but he has to find some other way to get the answers he wants.
Steve asks Kayla how Jack and Chad found out about Abby in the first place. Kayla says Clyde told them. Steve says if anybody knows if their so called niece is on the up and up Clyde would know. Kayla doesn’t like the way the conversation is going. Nothing good can come from engaging with Clyde. Steve says if Clyde doesn’t tell him what he knows, he will finish what Chad started. Kayla is definitely not down with that.
Kayla scolds Steve. He says he said he would just threaten Clyde, he didn’t say he would go through with it. Kayla points out that he didn’t say he wouldn’t either. Steve says the ball will be in Clyde’s court, he can do the right thing or not. Kayla says his plan to get Clyde to tell the truth has one issue: Clyde is in supermax with no access to visitors. How does Steve think he can get to him? Steve: Sorry, have we met? Kayla: Ugh, unfortunately. Steve tells her to have faith, where there is a will, there’s a way.

Kayla should have just gone with Steve's plan A (as I have a feeling Steve is going to wind up in prison again). I love their banter and dialog. And, while I know it's a big ethics violation for her to perform the test, I was hoping that they could get to the Fabby truth sooner rather than later.

I mean, Steve can just grab some of her hair and do his own private test without involving Kayla. But that would end this story too fast.

Go Steve. His instincts are good. Kayla doesn't know Mark well enough to trust him implicitly. Redo the DNA test!

Steve was clicking today agreed. And clueless Kayla, who should have been demoted ages ago, continues to run a careless hospital.
