At the Dimera mansion, “Abby” says to Stefano’s portrait that she gets why he hated her. She’s pretending to be Chad’s wife. She says she doesn’t like it either, pretending to be someone she’s not. She’s just doing what she has to do.
“Abby” says Stefano should understand. Chad said family meant everything, just like it did to her and her brother. Steve comes in and says, Abigail? She jumps up, and he says he didn’t mean to startle her. He introduces himself as her Uncle Steve and asks her about talking to Stefano.. She says nervously she talks to portraits but doesn’t make a habit of it. He seems to loom large over the family, so she decided to introduce herself. Steve says he has a commanding presence. He says he overheard her talking. She says she and her brother were really close. Steve says, you mean JJ? She says, of course, who else?
Steve says JJ is a great guy, and just so she knows, it’s short for Jack Patrick Junior. "Abby" finds all the relationships and people confusing. Steve says his friend Abe lost his memory a while back and used flash cards to keep everyone straight. Eventually, he got his memory back. He says, listen, I’m Steve, your Aunt Kayla is my wife, no last names required. She says Aunt Kayla is her doctor.
Steve says he understood she met Stephanie. Stephanie says she had a nice visit. “Abby” says she told me about my childhood. I wish I could remember it. Steve says you will eventually. So I heard you were working on a treatment plan. “Abby” says yes. She’s been a huge help. Steve says he wouldn’t be surprised by that, if it were true.
Steve confronts “Abby” about Kayla saying they didn’t speak yesterday. “Abby” says, doctor-patient confidentiality? Steve says, no, Kayla sets professional boundaries, but to say she hadn’t spoken to you… strange, isn’t it? “Abby” says it was a confusing time. She spoke to a lot of doctors, maybe she mixed things up, and she doesn’t remember any of her life. She sees pictures, but feels nothing and it feels like she’s a different person. Steve says he can relate to that. Wasn’t so long ago he thought he was Stefano. "Abby" is shocked by this, and he says it's a long story but in the end, he thought he was Stefano but he wasn't.
“Abby” says she had her doubts when Chad found her, but now she knows because of the DNA results. However, she understands why people have their doubts, including her mother. Steve says that must have hurt, getting that reaction from her. She says it was upsetting. Steve says his brother Jack and his wife Jennifer lost their daughter. They thought they’d buried her, grieved for her—it would turn their lives upside down. It takes a lot to believe the unbelievable.
Steve says he has to go. He wants her to know they’re all thinking about her. She should give Aunt Kayla a call so she can help her with that treatment plan. See you soon. He leaves.
“Abigail” says to herself that Uncle Steve will be a bit of a problem.

I'm glad Steve put a little fear in Fake-Abby. Someone has to be paying attention, and no one sniffs out a BS story like Steve!

Funny the way Steve hesitantly told Abigail it was nice to "see her again."
Who is dressing this woman. Long knit dresses. I need to talk to wardrobe pronto. Ha.
That storyline meshing Steve with Stefano was among the worst ever on Days.

For a private investigator, Steve didn't do a great job. He should have asked, "Your brother TJ ...or RJ ...or JR?" just to test what she knows. Instead of telling her things, he should have asked more questions, or been more cagey.

I was hoping the same thing Kpatch. But then I think she would have played it all off as part of the amnesia. I think (hope) Steve is giving her just enough rope to hang herself in the end. That he started out wanting to believe that she was Abigail but by the end of it, he knew better. That he has to show he's supportive and believes her in order to catch her.
