Maggie, still dressed in the same clothes as last week, is approached by Kayla. Kayla notes that she has not gone home since the accident. She reminds her that Sarah needs her to take care of herself, too. Maggie says Sarah is putting on a brave front but is terrified. Dr Greene, who remains off screen, but still works here, came by and Sarah’s’ reflexes were still unresponsive. Kayla has put Sarah on a high dose of steroids to help. A second MRI has been done and Kayla is going now to collect the results. Sarah is a fighter and they will all help her fight.
Xander is with Sarah. He is also in the same clothing from the accident day. He thought the test results would be back by now. He wants to go find Kayla and ask what the delay is. Sarah pulls him back. The neurologist will see her when he does his rounds. That is how things work around here. Xander gripes the results could just be sitting there. Sarah calls him her love, and says he needs to wait it out. He has a hard time sitting still. She can tell. He asks if she is comfortable. Sarah jokes that she feels fine, can’t feel anything. She wishes she could. Xander wants to know if there is anything he can do for her. Sarah wants him to go home.
Xander asks if she wants him to leave? Sarah says not because she doesn’t want him here, but she wants Xander to go home and check on Victoria. She trusts Fiona, but Victoria doesn’t know her, and she doesn’t want her to be scared, she has been clingy lately. Xander says he will go if it puts her mind at ease. Maggie is here. He hates to leave her. Sarah assures him she will be fine. Sarah needs him to check on their baby. She will be waiting. Where is she going to go? Xander kisses her goodbye and reluctantly leaves the room.
Sarah wakes up to Maggie holding her hand. Sarah says hey Mom. She didn’t wake her, she was just dozing. You can’t sleep here. Maggie says Xander went to check on Victoria, but she could have done that. Sarah said she thought it would be good for him to get out of here for a bit. She wants him to be in the habit of not being here 24/7. They need to work on the logistics of what their new life looks like, and that everybody does what they need to do as she recovers. Maggie says it will take a village, but Sarah has a village of people who love her. Sarah is very grateful for Maggie, and although she was nervous about Fiona it is a blessing right now.
Maggie is so proud of Sarah’s courage. All the nurses admire Sarah as a doctor and now as a terrific patient. They admire her attitude. Sarah says she has seen a lot of people with injuries like her own, including Maggie. Sarah says that the only way to get better is through hard work. Maggie says she will do it, with strength and commitment. Sarah’s plan is to stand up and walk out in a week, or a month, or a year, however long it takes. But if that is not the plan for her then she is going to live a full and complete life. She is a very lucky woman. She has a supportive mom, and a husband she loves with all her heart, and a daughter who is a miracle. Sarah refuses to let some hit and run driver rob her of a wonderful future with her family. She and Maggie are both very emotional through this.
Sarah always wanted to be a doctor. Helping people in need, she has been so blessed to do it, not just curing them physically, but being there for them emotionally, if not always successfully, but it is a double edged sword now, as the patient, she knows everything she is supposed to do, but she feels she knows too much. She is breaking down. She does not want a pep talk from Maggie. She asks her not to say anything, she just wants her to be there with her. The hardest part is being away from away from Victoria, she is crying hard as she says that they don’t allow babies in here. Xander pops in with the stroller saying ‘don’t allow what?’. Sarah is near hysterical and asking how he managed this. Xander says he pulled some strings and greased some wheels, that is his specialty. Sarah thanks him. Xander reaches in to the stroller to get Victoria.
Xander is returning Victoria to her stroller. Sarah is much happier and smiling. It did her so much good to see her. Kayla has told Xander he can sneak her in every day as long as Sarah is here. They just can’t let anybody else know they have special privileges. Maggie sees Sarah is sleepy and offers to bring Victoria home. She will see her again tomorrow. Sarah makes her promise to get some rest too. Maggie thanks Xander for bringing Victoria to see Sarah and for pulling strings. He reminds her, it is his specialty. She is holding his hand. He hugs her goodbye and returns to sit next to Sarah. He tells her to close her eyes and get some rest. Sarah says it wouldn’t be fun for him to sit and watch her sleep. Xander says he would be fine, he could sit and watch her sleep all day. Sarah tells him she loves him. Xander tells her he loves her. He takes her hand and she is in some pain. Kayla comes in with a report. She does not have an encouraging face. Sarah knows what that means.
Sarah asks about the test results Kayla says the new MRI shows signs of spinal cord ischemia. Sarah knows what that means. Xander doesn’t. Kayla tells him it is a form of a stroke in the spinal cord, caused by the blood loss after the accident. Xander says that now they have a definitive diagnosis that is good, what do they do next? Sarah is crying. Kayla says steroids are the treatment for this condition, and Sarah is on those already. Sarah tells Xander there is nothing left to do. She tells Xander straight: There is damage to the nerves and it is probably irreversible. And there is a possibility that she might eventually regain some sensation, but there is a good chance she won’t. She leans into Xander’s shoulder. He holds her tight as they both register this.

Aww, poor Sarah. At this point, Salem hospital should just relax the rules on kids in the recovery rooms. Sarah is way too optimistic right now. This is going to be such an emotional roller coaster.

The emotions of Maggie, Xander and Sarah were absolutely spot on. Three really good actors. I loved Sarah explaining to Xander what the diagnosis meant. I especially love that there is no question of her pushing him away or him leaving her. They are in this together, and will work through it even if she is in a wheelchair.

Some realism here. Sad.
We saw a fleeting glimpse of Victoria a while back. This would have been the perfect time to reintroduce her to the viewers. No such luck.

The twins have filmed more episodes, but I suspect we won't see a real Victoria again until Christmas. Maybe next month for her birthday if we are lucky.

I agree. The acting was incredible especially Godfrey (Sarah). Very controlled, very believable which makes it more emotional for viewers.

I like that Paul Telfer just sat back and let her speak and it all played out on his face silently. These two are such a throw back to a classic Days 80s supercouple. I remember Stephen Nichols doing the same when Mary Beth Evans had to emote. Silent support.

Not sure how I feel about this story I get the accident but I don’t personally want to see Sarah lose her mobility permanently Just not feeling it

These scenes were very heartfelt. I hope Maggie gets some rest. She needs to take care of herself so she can help Sarah and Xander.
