The residents of Salem are permanently relocating to Peacock this fall.

Days of Our Lives will stream exclusively on Peacock beginning on Monday, Sept. 12, ending its 57-year run on NBC, TVLine has confirmed.

“This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, says in a statement. “With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”

New episodes of Days currently air weekdays on NBC, with episodes from the previous two seasons available to stream on Peacock. Now, the streamer is becoming the soap’s exclusive home. Without Days, only three daytime soaps remain on broadcast television: ABC’s General Hospital, and CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.

Me too. The other soap I watch, the Australian soap Neighbours, was just canceled after 37 years so I couldn't deal with losing both soaps at once.

Like heroicmuse, I also watched and loved Neighbours. It sucks that it’s been cancelled after 37 years. Thank goodness Days is only moving to Peacock!

I’m hoping this means that the series will get a better budget and production values like Beyond Salem.

Just finished up with work and checked my phone, saw this all over my Reddit feed and social media. I'm so glad it's being relocated and not canceled! And fingers crossed too for better budget/production values.

I also feel better knowing it's going to someplace like Peacock that's at least a little established. As opposed to when AMC got shifted to Prospect Park/The Online Network. I appreciated what they were trying to do, but moving the show exclusively in 2013 to web streaming (and frankly not doing ALL they could to get back the heavy hitters like Susan Lucci, Michael E. Knight), yeah it didn't bode well for it. I felt like the platform bit off more than it could chew, and I never got over that we got saddled with a cliffhanger finale just to accommodate a platform that couldn't measure up.

Anyway, yay for more Days.

There are some positives to watching on Peacock. You can watch whenever you want without a DVR. The show won't be preempted for news breaks or alternative programming on holidays. There are two years worth of episodes on Peacock so if you want to rewatch a particular story or catch up you can.

If you have Comcast/Xfinity you get Peacock included with your service.

As with other soaps that moved to a different venue in hopes to stay relevent, this seems like a death knell to me. I'm just happy I was able to procure most of the eighties episodes when this soap shined.

This tweet below brings up another point. He’s probably joking but the show might actually be able to do things they couldn’t on “daytime tv.” Could be good or bad.

I figured it was going to go this way eventually, I just didn't think it would be this soon. Thankfully, Days has laid the groundwork with Beyond Salem, so they know there's an audience for Days that will follow it to Peacock.

The downside is that it sounds like it's going to Peacock premium, which is $4.99 a month. You can pay for a whole year. I did that back in December and got a discount. I'm hearing there's a promo code available TODAY50 for a 50% discount on an annual membership. I don't know for certain that it works but if you are interested you might want to check it out soon.

The upside is that they're saying we'll also have access to a library of past episodes. There's nothing specific yet about how many episodes or how far back they'll go, but it would be awesome to revisit some of the past storylines from the '70s, '80s and '90s.

I probably will not be watching on Peacock but maybe I can catch some on Youtube later. It is good that there will be access to retro episodes though as certain ones are hard to find. I might change my mind but we'll see. They will probably lose some of the audience but I guess I understand why they're doing it.

I don't know if it's a selling point for anyone, but I've enjoyed having Peacock. It has a good combination of old and new shows. Also, it has all of Downton Abbey, along with the movies. My family is watching it for the second time. It's a great series.

If you haven’t already signed up for the free version you might want to. I did because that’s how I watch already. They recently sent me an email to upgrade to premium for $1.99 a month for six months. I thought that was a pretty good deal so I went ahead and did it. Now I can watch Days and finally catch up on all the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that I missed when I got rid of cable. 😁

They should be promoting a deal for viewers who sign up before the date of the Peacock premiere to get some kind of discount or a free month or something.

And yes, anyone with Comcast/Spectrum/Xfinity should be able to get a free year of the Premium tier! I'm happy to walk anyone through it if they'd like.
