DD, no, please don’t be paranoid. I wasn’t talking about anyone here. I also wasn’t talking about open endings. I’ve written those too and sometimes it’s good to leave the end to the reader’s imagination. As long as there is some kind of conclusion to the story, I’m satisfied. I think Slyn described what I meant quite well. We mean unfinished like you write to chapter 5 and stop, never post again, although clearly there is more story to go. We don't mean a cliffhanger that is completed in a sequel. I know you, and I think JKJpatch write multiple stories in a series, so people know that when one story ends another will begin. Believe me, I understand about life getting in the way. We don’t derive income from writing fanfics. We have jobs and families and responsibilities, so I know that posting chapters can’t always be on a regular schedule. I am thrilled, I repeat thrilled, that we have so many great authors and stories here. It is among the things I envisioned when we started up MyHourglass. Sorry if my earlier statement didn’t come out right.

I hope no one is expecting fairy tale endings from me. Nope. A great thrill ride is really enjoyable.

I know I have been stuck with my story Long Road Ahead..I think it is because of my frustrations with the show. I was able to finish Third Times A Charm despite not getting the happy ending on screen I was hoping for. I have found myself enjoying Jack and his "new" life and keep getting ideas..hence the fact that the story just keeps going...LOL I am a big reader and find I really like stories that have a lot of action AND romance in them.

I wanted to bring back this thread as we have a lot of new members who may not have seen it.
I have read fics here at MH that featured main characters I'm not a fan of on the show. I have been pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed them. So I guess for me it's the writing and story that hook me even if I don't really enjoy the character onscreen.

I deleted my post, because rereading it, I realized that it did not come across as I intended. I have my own idiosyncracies and process things in ways that I'm the first to admit are peculiar. I sometimes struggle to visualize things, which is why some styles are hard for me to follow. I certainly did not intend to criticize writers who write in different styles and understand that we all have our different preferences. I just wanted to explain why there are some fics that I may not comment on and explain that it has nothing to do with the story or the characters, but sometimes the chosen style is hard for me to grasp.

Great idea bumping this thread! For me a good story can even make me start liking a character more. On the show I never liked Maggie Horton until they put her with Melanie. After that I grew to love her. And all of that is thanks to her relationship with Melanie (a character I adore) and later her relationship with Victor. Also if I am enjoying a story, I enjoy all the characters involved...even ones I am not rooting for. Using the show as an example again, Nathan Horton, I thought he was a poorly written waste of space. EXCEPT, I could clearly see how he was being used as a plot tool to fuel angst for Philip and Melanie. In that way, I found him extremely necessary and very enjoyable. However, if he had been given a stand alone story of his own, I know I would have fast forwarded. His character was just not that interesting and no amount of better writing ever could have made him so for me. He is not my type of guy.
