I don't like watching people grieving on soaps. I don't find it entertaining.

Ugh. I hate this. I also think its interesting that Ron C claims he had no choice because the actress didn't want to be on contract, yet Victoria Konefal (Ciara) is also not on contract, yet they write story for her and Ben around her availability.
To me, what that means is Ron doesn't see Abigail as a necessary or important character. So as soon as he found a reason to, he killed her off.

And what about Sami? EJ is still in relationship limbo because Sami is rarely in Salem.
Or maybe that's Ron's point. He's got too many of these relationships in limbo because of actors who don't want to be under contract and he's drawing a line in the sand.

So no Deveraux onscreen anymore. I'm disappointed that Missy Reeves is not coming back as Jennifer for a story this big. What about JJ? Will he be back for the funeral? And it's even more disappointing that the show can't send Abby away (they've done this before) and not have the ability to write a good non-couples story for Chad. They have no creativity. Give me the pen. I'll do it.

I think the reality is that Ron C is more interested in generating story in the short term with a murder mystery.
If he's concerned about Chad not having story how's this going to help. Chad will be grieving and possibly seeking revenge. Yet another person seeking revenge is the last story we need in Salem.

The really annoying thing is that if he needed a different way to write Abby out, he had one just this week. Abby had wanted to go to Milwaukee to talk to the kidnapper who had been arrested for something else, but Chad stopped her. If Marci Miller was leaving anyway, why not just have Abby disappear/not come back from Milwaukee for reasons unknown? That would have given Chad a better story as he was already conflicted about covering up Lucas' crime and now Abby would have disappeared because of the coverup.

I agree that I think Ron just wanted a big murder mystery to kick off the summer and he wanted it to be a character that viewers actually care about. This checks those boxes but it seems short-sighted.
And I can't believe Missy Reeves won't be back for this storyline. Heck, why not kill off Jennifer since the actress won't return for more than a few episodes here and there? That would free up Jack for some great stories.

In an interview with Ron C or summer preview it said that the list of murder suspects will be "a mile long". I don't see how the writers will come up with a list a mile long of people who wanted Abby dead.

I don’t like Abby being killed but this is Days. Death is rarely permanent. They can always bring her back someday.
