Why does everyone in Salem keep insisting that Craig stole Kayla's job or that Leo set this up?
I've worked under a board, and if you fail to fire someone they've decided should be let go, then yes, you will likely be fired as well. And it's not as though the board didn't have cause to fire Marlena. Multiple patients complained about harmful advice she gave them. And having a psychiatrist possessed by the Devil seems like a huge liability for a hospital. I'm guessing their isn't a "devil made me do it" insurance clause to cover that.
Kayla chose to fall on her sword for her friend. No one forced her to do that. Craig didn't manipulate the situation. He simply let the board know he was interested in the position should it become available. And Leo didn't push Craig to take the position any more than Nancy would have in the same situation.
It just bugs me that half of Salem seems to think that Kayla was unjustifiably fired or that Craig and Leo set her up to steal her job, when neither is the case.

They are working at making Craig out to be the villain even though he didn't do any scheming to get the job. He didn't have to. It's lazy writing. Kayla has only herself to blame. It's fine if she wanted to defend a friend/colleague, but she said her piece, it didn't have an affect, and it was her place as the Chief of Staff (get it? she's in charge of the staff!) to release Marlena.

Agreed! This is absolutely ridiculous. Craig didn't tell Seth Burns to fire Kayla. He just made it clear he was interested if the position became available. And Marlena herself told Kayla that if she didn't fire her, the board would get rid of Kayla.
If anything, this contradicts Chloe’s claims about Leo because Leo encouraged Craig to make a wise career move. Sheesh.

And if Kayla really wanted to help Marlena, she could have spoken on Marlena's behalf during the formal appeals process if Marlena chose to fight this. Now that Kayla's gone, she has much less power to help her friend.

Maybe it’s just a reminder that Craig did scheme back in the day to get this job so why would anyone put it past him now that he’s shacked up with Leo stark of all people
From an outsider looking in who remembers the history with both of these schemers it does t look a little convenient regardless of the fact that Craig didn’t actually do anything wrong to get the job
It won’t be alright tho if he doesn’t fire her and he remains COS
That I don’t agree with if Kayla got sacked for that so should he
