From Michael FairmanWho will land a Daytime Emmy Pre-Nomination in the Daytime Drama Acting Categories? The revised Daytime Emmy voting system is in place, and the official voting for the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards got underway last week. With the new process, 2- minute reels have been selected by each performer, as an example or excerpt of a their work within the calendar year for consideration for the first phase of getting a shot at the gold in the six acting categories. The Pre-Nomination voting will conclude on February 27th and the official announcement of the Pre-Nominees is set by NATAS for March 2nd. Then, the next round of voting begins through March with full submissions by the Pre-Nominees, and the voting through April via Blue Ribbon Panels. The final nominees for this years awards will be revealed for the first time on May 4th! So just who is vying for a pre-nom from the Emmy voters? Nelson Branco compiled a list of the six acting categories, in a recent issue of Soap Opera Uncensored. As you will see, there is some switching of categories from some of the usual suspects, as well as some very familiar faces, in what looks to be some very hotly contested categories right out of the gate. After the jump, review the names on the ballot, and let us know your thoughts on who you think the voters should be seriously considering for a pre-nomination! Thanks for posting this Kpatch. I don't know anything about the non-Days actors recent work. Some I've never seen on TV and others I watched years ago.
Go Chandler!!

For Lead Actor I want James Scott. For Lead Actress I want Allison Sweaney. For Supporting Actor I want Matt Ashford. For Supporting Actress I want Ari Zucker. For Younger Actor I want Chandler Massey. For younger actress I want Shelley Hennig. This is the first year in a long time that I fell Days has real chance at getting nominations in all 6 acting categories. I also wouldn't mind seeing Kate Mansi or Crystal Chapelle getting nominations.

*My comments are strictly based on Days alone. I don't watch any of the other shows, so I have no idea how the other actors/actresses fared last year. I have a feeling there will be some sympathy noms for OLTL and AMC, but I hope Days makes the list this year.* Sorry, I don't understand how Deidre can be nominated for ANYTHING! Unless the category is Most Botoxed. Then she's got a shot. As for the rest, I'd like to see Galen get a nom for Lead Actor - he was fantastic last year with the whole Rafe2 story. He really did create two distinct characters and that deserves some recognition. I'm trying to think back, and I can't remember James Scott having much substance last year. He seemed to be leering and smirking the whole time (of course, I thought it was delightful and sexy, but not exactly challenging work). Lead Actress - Alison? Really? And Crystal?!?! REALLY?!?!?!? Yes, the adiction stuff was, well, it was kinda strange. But she did cry a lot. And sweat. Lots of sweat. Clearly that means she's a fantastic actress. Supporting Actress - I think it would be poetic justice to see Nadia get a nom even though she had such a s**t storyline. And, sorry Valerie, but NO NOM FOR YOU. In the end, I think this category is Arianne's though. Nicole was on fire last year and got some really meaty stuff. Supporting Actor - Shawn or Matt? Those are my only choices? I guess Matt had better material and he's done well with the PTSD stuff. So, Matt it is. Younger Actor - Chandler. Done. Next! Younger Actress - Molly, Kate, Shelly, and Camilia. Hmmm. I wasn't really a fan of Shelly *ducks* and Camilia is about as interesting as wallpaper, so that leaves Molly and Kate. I'm gonna have to go with Kate. She hits the nail on the head when it comes to the emotional scenes. She never cries too much and she was great in her confrontation scenes with Matt. But that's all just my opinion.

LOL. Kate/Lauren Koslow is FAR from young. Even though she desperately tries to hang on to it as long as she can.

Deirdre was on only 2 months of 2011. I guess there's no time restrictions. All she did during that time was suck John's face through prison bars. Definitely not Emmy worthy.

That one makes sense as much as nominating Valerie (Fay Walker) in the same category as Nicole (Arianne)... Who picks these nominees?

These just represent actors who submitted reels for consideration. They haven't made the cut yet. That decision comes later this month.

I'm curious what exactly Deidre submitted that she thought was Emmy worthy?

I wonder what dates the nominations cover. That makes a difference for many of these actors as far as the material goes. I am always surprised when Days gets any nominations. Not because of the actors' work, but simply because the nominations are few and far between. I hope we can get some nominations this year.

maybe it's because there are so few soaps left. I would imagine next year we could see even more Days...

That's if there's even a Daytime Emmy's show next year. Why have an award ceremony if there are only 3 shows? Has GH officially been cancelled yet? Y&R, B&B, and Days are the only ones I know of that are "safe."

In recent years the Daytime Emmys are more about the talk shows. The soaps are just some of the many categories. They are no longer the focus.
