The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo have begun! And man, does it feel strange to say that in July of 2021. They are, of course, the Olympic games that would have been played in 2020, but had to be postponed for obvious reasons. Regardless, they have, indeed, begun! The opening ceremonies were yesterday, with today being the first full day of competitions! And, as I have with the last few years, I will be doing a (hopefully) daily recap of who won what sport. I'll be following the way I did it during the 2018 Winter Olympics, where every day, I give a recap of what medals have been won by my top 5 countries (U.S.A., Great Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand), as well as the host country, Japan. If there are any other countries you're interested in, let me know, and I'll be happy to add them to my daily updates. And now, let's begin!
U.S.A.: - 1 gold (Swimming)
- 2 silver (Swimming)
- 3 bronze (Swimming)
Australia: - 1 gold (Swimming)
- 1 silver (Swimming)
- 1 bronze (Swimming)
Japan: - 2 gold (1 Judo, 1 Swimming)
- 1 silver (Judo)

Another slight alteration to the way I'm doing things, from here on we'll be doing a total medal count only. This means that every day, I'll show how many of each color medal my five teams, plus the host team, has, as well as the full total medals. When the Olympics have finished, I'll post specifics on how many of each medal the teams got. We're still maintaining our lead over China by two medals.
U.S.A.: Gold: 22 Silver: 25 Bronze: 17 Total: 64
Great Britain: Gold: 11 Silver: 12 Bronze: 12 Total: 35
Ireland: Gold: 1 Bronze: 2 Total: 3
Australia: Gold: 14 Silver: 4 Bronze: 15 Total: 33
New Zealand: Gold: 4 Silver: 3 Bronze: 4 Total: 11
Japan: Gold: 17 Silver: 6 Bronze: 10 Total: 33
