That was an annoying conversation. Philip is going to keep earplugs (and a thick skin) if he is going to stay at the mansion.

Chapter 26
Philip was in his office at Headquarters on Monday morning studying more reports. He needed to prepare the Chairman’s Message that would go on the inside cover of Titan’s annual report, the full-color, glossy report that would get sent to shareholders by mail and be handed out to the shareholders who attend the annual meeting in person. And he couldn’t start composing the message without having a complete understanding of the information in these reports.
Today, he was having a hard time concentrating. His mind kept wandering to Chloe and the things he heard Nicole and Belle saying yesterday. He didn’t like the fact that people were gossiping about him. This was his decision, not theirs. Once the annual meeting was over in a couple weeks, he’d have more flexibility, more brain power, more time. Then he would send for Chloe and Parker.
Marie’s voice came through the intercom in his desk phone. “Philip.”
“Yes, Marie.”
“Sorry to bother you but there’s someone here to see you.”
Philip briefly glanced at his Outlook calendar. He had no meetings today and that was intentional. “I’m swamped. I blocked my calendar so I can get these reports sorted out. See if you can have them schedule an appointment for later in the week.”
“Sorry sir, but he won’t take no for an answer,” Marie explained. “He’s on his way in already.”
He sighed with exasperation.
“Daddy!”
Philip looked up from the report and his lips parted at the sight of the little boy standing in the center of his office. “Parker! What the —-” Parker ran to Philip as Chloe entered the office. Philip lifted Parker in his arms as he rose from his chair. He smiled broadly at Chloe. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
Her smile matched his. “It’s more fun this way. Hey, you’re not the only one who likes to surprise people,” she stated. “I hope this is a good surprise.”
He held out one arm and she stepped closer. Squeezing her to his side he said, “I can’t imagine a better surprise.” He kissed her lips. “I’m just so stunned.”
“Can you take a break? Lunch maybe?” Chloe asked.
“For you guys? Of course.”
“Daddy, how’s your daddy feeling?”
Philip exhaled. “Not so great.”
“I’m sorry I kicked him,” Parker pouted.
“That was a long time ago, kiddo.”
“I never ‘pologized.”
“Well, I’m sure he forgave you long ago, but I bet seeing you would make him feel a whole lot better.” He glanced at Chloe. “Okay?”
“Of course.”
He set Parker down in his leather desk chair, opened a drawer and retrieved a handful of menus. “Where do you want to order from? I’ve got menus for the pub, Penthouse Grill, Java, Buddy’s.”
Chloe picked up the pub menu. “The pub would be great. Parker could have a turkey sandwich.”
“That sounds good. Why don’t we get three.” When Chloe nodded, Philip pressed the intercom. “Marie, could you order us three turkey sandwiches from the pub.”
“Any beverages?” she asked.
“Nah, we’ll go down to the cafeteria and pick up something to drink.”
“No mayo,” Parker said.
“Hey, Parker, why don’t you go tell Marie you don’t want mayonnaise on your sandwich,” Philip suggested. “Marie is the nice lady at the desk out there.”
“Okay.” Parker ran out of Philip’s office.
“Well hello, young man,” Marie said. “You must be Parker. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“You have? From who?” Parker asked.
“From your grandfather.”
“Which one?”
“Your Grandpa Victor.”
Chloe started to follow Parker out of Philip’s office when Philip curled his fingers around the inside of her arm and pulled her toward him. He pushed the office door closed most of the way and took her face in his hands. “Hello, Mrs. Kiriakis.” Pressing his lips onto hers, she wrapped her arms around him as he kissed her over and over.
“Mmm. You’re making me very glad I came,” Chloe told him when the kiss broke.
“Oh baby, you ain’t seen nothing yet.” They started to kiss again when Parker returned.
“Marie is holding the mayo,” he told his parents.

Regardless of whether Philip likes it or not, people are going to gossip. There's just no way around that. And it's going to be worse when things are what others think they should be. Philip is going to have to learn to just ignore it.
Too cute with Parker "already on the way in" without being told he could go on in.

So happy that Phillip was happy with the surprise. Nicole needs to shut up and keep her opinions to herself. Can’t wait until Chloe and Parker get to the house. Going to be very interesting!

Chapter 27
The Kiriakises were sitting around a table in Philip’s office eating their turkey sandwiches. Philip wiped his mouth with a napkin and looked at Chloe. “Am I smiling?”
“Yeees.” She drew out the word. “Why?”
“Because I haven’t smiled in about a week. Since Disney. You two being here? It’s like medicine.” He reached across the table for Chloe’s hand and kissed it. “I’m so glad you came.”
“I am too, but Philip, this is just a visit. I know you’ve got more than enough on your plate without us distracting you.”
He squeezed her hand. “You’re the best kind of distraction.” His brow knit. “You’re staying over, right? You don’t have to go back today, do you?”
“We’ll stay as long as you want us to.”
“Good!” He turned to his son. “So, Parker, how do you like my new office?”
The boy looked around and shrugged. “I like your Chicago office better.”
Philip thought for a minute and dropped his sandwich onto the wax paper wrapper. He rubbed his hands together to dust the crumbs off, then he got up and opened a closet. “Hmmm.”
“What are you looking for, honey?” Chloe asked.
“My office in Chicago has a closet full of toys and games for him. But here? I got nothing.” He picked up a pack of ball point pens. “Unless he wants to play with office supplies.”
“Who had this office before you?” Chloe asked.
He closed the closet door and returned to the table. “CIO. I had to kick him out. I felt bad for doing it, but I … well, I feel like I need to be on this side of the office and there’s no way in hell—” He looked over at Parker and corrected himself. “Sorry. There’s no way I’m going to take my father’s office.”
“Why not?” Parker asked.
“Because it’s still his office,” Philip said gently. He glanced at Chloe to see her reaction.
She rubbed the top of his hand. “This was once your office, wasn’t it?” Philip nodded.
“When are we going back to Chicago?” Parker blurted.
“We just got here, angel.”
“No. I mean all of us,” Parker said, holding his arms out to indicate the three of them. “Daddy ‘cluded. When are we goin’ home?”
Philip and Chloe exchanged glances. “I have to stay for a while,” Philip told him. “I have a lot more responsibilities now and it means I need to stay in Salem. I wish I had a better answer for you, kiddo, but I’m not sure when I can go back to Chicago. It may be quite a while.”
Parker got up from his chair and went over to the floor-to-ceiling window, splaying his fingers on the glass. “Wow, this is really high up.”
“Pretty cool, huh?” Philip said, resting his arm across the back of his chair.
“We should probably get going,” Chloe said. “You have a lot of work to do, so I’ll let you get to it—unless there’s something I can help you with here.”
Philip shook his head from side to side. “I’ll probably ask you to take a look at my Chairman’s message after I finish it. You going straight to the mansion?” When Chloe nodded, he said, “I’ll give Maggie a call and let her know you’re coming.”
“I hope she won’t mind. I probably should have let her know ahead of time.”
“Hey, since you’re bringing Parker, I’m sure she’ll be more than happy to have you,” he joked. His expression turned serious. “I should probably tell you that Daniel and Nicole are living in the mansion too.”
Chloe’s eyes widened. “Seriously?”
Nodding, Philip told her, “Daniel’s supervising Dad’s care at Maggie’s request. And apparently, wherever Daniel goes, so goes Nicole.”
“Well, it’ll be good to catch up with Nicole. And I’m sure Parker will be happy to see Daniel.” She flashed a worried look at Philip.
He waved it away. “It’s fine.”
Chloe looked at Parker’s half-eaten sandwich. “Parker, if you’re finished with lunch, you need to tidy up your area.”
“I know. I know. We don’t have a maid,” he said, mimicking a phrase his mother often used. Parker shuffled his feet as he returned to the table and began scrunching up the paper goods. “Where’s the garbage?”
Philip pointed to a bin near his desk. He looked at Chloe and said, “There actually is a maid at the mansion. And a butler. Which reminds me.” He slid his phone out of his pocket. “I need to text Henderson so he can make sure there’s a room ready for Parker.”
“What about a room for Mommy?” Parker asked.
Philip got up and squatted down to Parker. “Mommy can stay in my room with me, just like we do in Chicago. So, I’ll see you tonight kiddo.” Parker hugged Philip’s neck. Still squatting, Philip looked up at Chloe. “I’ll take Parker in to see my father when I get home. I usually spend a half hour with my father every evening, give him a recap of what’s going on here at work.”
Chloe was in the middle of tossing her and Philip’s trash in the waste paper basket. She stopped and looked at Philip with surprise. “He’s able to talk to you?”
“No. I do the talking. Sometimes he blinks his eyes and I think he’s starting to wake up, but—”
“Oh honey. I’m so sorry.”
Philip rose to his feet and put his arms around Chloe. “I’m really glad you’re here.”
He rested his chin on her shoulder, and she held him tight. “This is where we belong.”
“Do you need a car?”
“I drove my car from Chicago.”
“Good.” He kissed her ear and stepped back. “Give me your phone a sec.” She handed him her phone and he pressed a handful of keys. “I’m putting the mansion’s gate entry code information in your Notes app.”
He gave her back the phone and she slipped it into her purse, amazed that he had the presence of mind to remember the small stuff, even with everything he’s dealing with. “See you tonight,” she said with a smile. “Come on, Parker.” She held out her hand and Parker took it. “We’re going to see Grandma Maggie, Grampa Victor and Henderson. And Daniel. And Aunt Nicole.”
Parker looked over his shoulder. “Bye Daddy. See you later.”
