Chapter 228 Philip looked at his phone’s home screen and whispered, “There is one more call I need to make tonight.” He tapped a speed-dial key and waited for an answer. A smile erupted on his face when Chloe picked up. “Hello, beautiful.” “Hello yourself, handsome. Did you and Parker have a good day?” “The best. Chloe, the tickets have turned out to be such a gift. Even if we can’t use them every week, these moments together are really special.” “Oh honey. I’m so glad. And I’m glad you ended up going even if it’s Parker’s first day of school tomorrow. Is he in bed?” “Not yet. He’s taking a bath.” “I’m getting ready to take a nice relaxing bath too,” she said flirtatiously. “For real? Or are you just trying to make me crazy?” “Well, I admit that making you crazy is my very favorite thing to do, but I really am about to take a bath. Listen.” She held the phone up to the running water so he could hear it. “I can’t believe you’re taking a bath without me.” “I’ll be thinking about you every minute.” She used her most seductive voice. “Imagining you in here with me…under the bubbles…getting to those hard-to-reach places…feeling the warm water on my silky smooth skin and pretending it’s your arms around my body.” He ran his hand over his hair and blew out some air. “Oh baby. And here I thought one night apart would be no big deal, but you’re making this really hard—if you know what I mean.” “Tell you what. Tonight, I’ll take a relaxing bath. And tomorrow night when you’re back home, we can take a not-so-relaxing bath together.” “Count me in, baby,” he answered in his sexiest voice. “Good night, Philip,” she cooed. As Philip clicked end call, Parker came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. “Was that work again?” “Um no. It was Mommy. I was saying goodnight to her.” “I wanna say goodnight too.” Philip handed Parker his phone. “Here. Just press this key and it’ll dial the last number that was called. You can say goodnight to your mom. I’m going to take a quick shower. That way, all we’ll need to do in the morning is have breakfast and go. Be back in 10 minutes.” He headed for the bathroom in his bedroom. Parker hit the redial key and Chloe answered. “I’ve got one toe in the tub,” she said. “Hi Mommy.” “Angel! I thought your daddy was calling back.” She turned off the running water. “Did you have a good time at the game?” “Yeah, ‘cept Daddy gets too many stupid calls from work.” “I’m sure they’re not stupid, angel. Daddy has a very important job and the people who work at Titan sometimes need your daddy to make decisions before they can do certain things.” “Like what? Eat dinner?” Laughing, she answered, “Well no. Work-related things. But other than that, did you and Daddy have fun?” “Uh huh. We had hot dogs at the park and pizza from Uno when we got home.” Chloe rolled her eyes. “I have no comment.” “And daddy bought me a new, regulation baseball glove that I can use next time I practice with Paul Narita!” “I’m so glad you and your dad have this time together,” she said sincerely. “Just make sure you get to bed early so you’ll be bright-eyed for school tomorrow.” “I’m going to bed now. I just finished my bath.” “Sleep well, angel. I’ll see you tomorrow when I pick you up after school. I love you.” “Love you too. Bye Mommy.” Parker clicked end call. He stared at the home screen for a few moments, thinking. He glanced over his shoulder and could hear the shower still running. So he navigated to Settings and switched on the Do Not Disturb mode. Then he turned off the ringer and giggled. “Now no one from Titan can bother my daddy any more tonight,” he whispered. Then he set Philip’s phone on the kitchen counter and ran toward his bedroom. He put on his pajamas, got into bed and pulled the covers up to his shoulders.

Glad Philip and Chloe had a nice phone call. I have a feeling that Parker turning off the sound on Philip’s phone will lead to Philip missing an important call.

Chapter 229 After speaking with Parker, Chloe went downstairs and got a bottle of sparkling apple cider that was left over from the engagement party. She poured it into a wine glass and brought it upstairs. She set the glass at the edge of the garden tub in the bathroom that was part of her bedroom suite. Back in the bedroom, she pulled the comforter toward the foot of the bed and tossed the throw pillows on the floor, making it ready to snuggle into as soon as she gets out of her bath. She pulled her hair into a high pony tail as she walked into the bathroom again. She tested the water temperature before turning up the hot water and adding some bath coconut-scented bath crystals. Staring at the running water, she smiled remembering that very sexy, very unrelaxing bubble bath she shared with Philip a couple months before. Maybe tomorrow night they could have a repeat performance. Before undressing, she texted Philip a quick, “Sweet dreams, guys.” She started to unbutton her blouse when she heard footsteps in the hall. Even though the security system was enabled, she was completely alone in the house and she felt scared. She pulled up the app for the mansion’s security team, and was poised to hit “call” if she needed to. She looked around for something heavy to protect herself with. There was a letter opener on the desk which meant she’d have to get up close and personal with the intruder. She wished she had a baseball bat handy, like the one they kept under the bed at the condo. Or a gun. God she wished Philip was home. She shuddered as she gripped the letter opener. With the opener in one hand and her phone in the other, she opened the door a crack and saw a man walking down the hall. She gasped and opened the door all the way. “Brady. What are you doing here?” Brady stopped in his tracks. “Chloe. I uh forgot something.” She stepped into the hallway. “Yesterday? The staff did a pretty thorough job of cleaning up after the party. What did you lose?” “I can’t remember what time I was supposed to meet Melanie.” He walked inside Chloe’s bedroom and headed straight for the dresser. He picked up a brush and ran it through his hair. Chloe followed him inside. “Melanie? She’s not here.” “Yes she is. Yesterday at the party she told me to come pick her up at Maggie’s.” “Oh. But she didn’t mean here. She’s staying at Maggie’s place on Chestnut Street. The old house.” Brady showed no reaction. The sound of running water caught his attention and he tilted his head to look into the bathroom. “Where’s Philip?” “He’s not here either. Philip and Parker went to Chicago to see a Cubs game.” He suddenly turned around, left the bedroom and headed down the stairs. “Brady, wait!” She rushed into the bathroom and quickly turned off the bathwater. If Brady’s high, she can’t let him get in a car. She rushed downstairs, calling, “Wait. Brady, wait.” When she got downstairs, he wasn’t in the foyer so she opened the front door. When she heard a sound coming from inside, she closed the front door and approached Brady at the bar. “Brady! Put down that decanter. You shouldn’t be drinking and you certainly shouldn’t be driving. How did you get here? Did you drive?” She reached for the glass in his hand but he held it out of her reach and took a sip. “It’s just a little scotch.”
'That’s like being a little pregnant.” She grabbed the glass out of his hand. “No problem. I’ll just drink from the bottle.” He lifted the decanter to his lips and took a swig. “Brady, are you crazy? Stop it. You’re an addict and you shouldn’t be drinking.” “Don’t worry, Chloe. It’s just a chaser.” “A chaser? For what?” “For the hit of coke I took on the way here.”

This has gotten really out of hand She should have told Philip a long time ago She shouldn’t be alone with him right now either At this stage she should ring someone in his family to come and escort him home

Chloe should call the police. Brady is a danger to himself and everyone else if he's driving places drunk and high.

He's back on both. This is NOT going to end well. I really hope now that Chloe comes clean to EVERYONE about Brady's problems. I hate to see him spiraling like this.

Chapter 230 “Don’t worry, Chloe. It’s just a chaser,” Brady said matter-of-factly. “A chaser? For what?” “For the hit of coke I took on the way here.” “Oh my god.” She held her face with her palms. “Do you know how dangerous that is. You were driving!” He pointed at her. “You’d be impressed by how well I drive when I’m high.” “Give me that bottle,” she insisted. He took a step closer and touched her bare skin where the top buttons were undone. “I’d rather give you something else.” He eyed her up and down. She swatted away his hand and rebuttoned the top buttons on her blouse “You’re not funny.” “I’m not joking.” He set the bottle down, took her in his arms and kissed her. She pressed on his chest and pushed him away, right before slapping his face. “You think a little slap is a deterrent?” “Just stop it Brady. You don’t scare me.” For some reason, she really wasn’t afraid of Brady. After all, it was Brady and she knew he would never hurt her, at least not physically. “You know I’m married. And also pregnant.” “You’re also not Melanie, but at the moment, none of that matters. Besides, I was married to you first. That gives me prior claim.” He gripped her arms and pulled her toward him. “Everything okay in here?” Brady released Chloe and spun around when he heard Xander’s voice. “What are you doing here,” Brady asked. “I live here. Now answer my question,” Xander insisted. “What are you doing?” “It’s my grandfather’s house and I have every right to be here,” Brady answered defensively. “I didn’t say you didn’t, Mate. Just wondering what you’re doing over there.” He pointed toward Chloe. “Are you alright, love?” Chloe nodded but couldn’t hide her exasperation. “I’m fine, Xander.” “Are you sure? Because it looked like—” “It wasn’t,” Brady blurted. “But thanks for checking. You can go now.” Xander locked eyes with Chloe. “I’ll go only if Chloe says I should go.”
“I’m handling it,” she told him.
“Righto. You know where I am if you need me.” Chloe nodded. Xander stood and watched the two of them for an extra minute before turning around and leaving through the French doors that led toward the pool. Chloe took her phone out. “What are you doing?” Brady asked, panic entering his voice. “Looking for a meeting.” “What kind—. You mean an AA meeting? Come on, Chloe. You sound like a broken you know record. I don’t wanna go to an AA meeting.” He eyed her lasciviously. “I had something else in mind.” He stepped closer and reached for her but she took a step back. Focused on her phone, she muttered, “I was really hoping John and Marlena would have taken care of this but since they haven’t, it looks like it’s up to me. There’s a meeting right now at the community center in Brookville. It’s at an old dance hall.” “Dancing. Yes. Let’s go dancing,” He took a few steps as if he was dancing, but nearly fell over. “We’re not dancing. We’re going to a meeting to get your head on straight. Come on.” “I’m all yours baby.” He grabbed the phone out of her hand and tossed it aside before kissing her again. She broke free of his hold on her and slapped him hard. “Hey. You didn’t need to do that.” “Apparently I did because you’re not getting the message! I’m not playing around here, Brady. You’re coming with me to a meeting.” She grabbed his arm and dragged him toward the door leading to the walkway to the garage.
