It's pretty selfish of Philip to expect Chloe to say sure I'll be your mistress while you play house with Melanie and Parker for 9 months. All that would do is set Chloe up for an even bigger fall. He doesn't see the mistress thing now. All he sees is his disappointment and that in his mind Chloe still doesn't want him. |

I was the beta that said the triangle starts with this last chapter, thank you . I do honestly think that because I do agree it has been a triangle for sometime, but it almost felt like it was kind of a prologue to the triangle itself. Setting everyone up, from Philip/Melanie/Chloe to Sonny, Brady, Daniel, Victor, etc. How each of their "roles" will be and the feelings that will come into play. Philip has been set up and really shown how his life was prior to Melanie and how he thought, how he reacted to things, and than how he reacted to Melanie. He was drawn to her from the start, even when he didn't know who she was. And the fact that Melanie never "claimed" him from the beginning really stung Philip as that is all he ever wanted and how he felt that a wife who truly loved him would have done. Yet despite all the blocks he put on his feelings to resist Melanie and to not care what she thought, and being in denial, I think that was just yet another way for him to protect himself from hurt. Despite not remembering Melanie, he still felt a connection and than listening to what everyone was saying about how happy they were and all that, and yet not fully seeing it from Melanie or denying it, he could focus on other besides that initial hurt. To me, that is when Chloe comes in. I think he does love her and I do think he does/did want to be with her, but I think that despite that Chloe can hurt him, he has to know and remember that she has hurt him before, it in no way amounts to the level of hurt he felt from Melanie. Chloe hurting him he can "take" better....sure he is sad and will want to work things out with Chloe. Want to be with her, and he does love her.....but she is safe to him. Despite the fact she hurts him, he still finds her safe with his feelings compared to what he feels for Melanie. Melanie gets to him in ways he can't even comprehend and I am sure is scared to understand, and excited at the same time. So the fact that Philip put it all out there in this chapter I think is a big step. And I think that Melanie standing up and telling her feelings is a huge step. And that Philip finally believes Melanie and finally really sees Melanie, this is where I think the triangle begins. Before it was "easy" to be with Chloe if he didn't take Melanie seriously....he doesn't feel the guilt necessarily...he can use the anger as a way to push Melanie away and just make things "easier". But now that we have Philip really seeing Melanie and fully believing that Melanie does love him, that their marriage was actually real and not just bits and pieces of conversation that is overheard, or seeing pictures on the walls and momentos of his life on the dresser or in the bathroom, but an actual real life breathing marriage. That is when the real life comes into play and how the couples involved can't make things just black and white anymore, but they actually have to allow the gray to seep through, which in doing that makes this triangle allowed to take its first breath as well. So those are my thoughts. I hope they do not sound dumb or anything but just what I think... I love this story Slyn! |

Wow Angela...you said so much! Thank you for taking the time to write that. I enjoyed reading your take on things very much.
I especially was interested in your point that Philip can deal with being hurt by Chloe more than he can with Melanie....very interesting. I wonder if the "comfort" that you and others have mentioned will change once he learns what he missed the past three years or when he finds out how Chloe hurt Parker.

OK getting us back on track for the ending of Undertow2. I just wanted to give another look ahead since I had to take an unexpected hiatus from writing. (will post this in the fic thread too)
Where we are now - Philip is with Parker, unaware that a party is being set up below him. Melanie and Sonny are scrambling to keep the party a surprise. Chloe and Nicole are on their way to give Philip the best birthday present ever.
Where we are heading next -
PHILIP - Philip has many pieces to the puzzle in his head now, but he can't see how they fit. At the party expect Philip to be filled in on much of his life as he interacts with family and friends. He also starts asking questions that have been building within him. He knows there is more to what is going on with Parker and Chloe, he can feel it. Expect him to move closer to finding out the answers.
The divide in Philip's heart will become more pronounced when he has to deal with both women in his life at the same time. Look for those divided feelings to be put on display in a very public way.
CHLOE - Chloe is on a mission to tell Philip how she truly feels about him. With Nicole's help, Chloe is heading to the party at the mansion. Expect Chloe and Philip to come face to face for an emotional exchange. Will Chloe be able to love Philip from afar and not act on her feelings?
Also after weeks of separation Chloe will get to see Parker again...a family moment is coming. Not everyone will be happy that Chloe has been released from the hospital - things will be tense. Look for Chloe to find an unexpected ally in the middle of a war zone.
MELANIE - Reeling from Philip's declaration that he wants to give their marriage a chance, Melanie will try to reconcile her heart with her instincts. Can she trust Philip even when her gut is setting off alarms? Expect Melanie to show cracks in her armor as she tries to fake a happy marriage in the middle of a social event. She will find support in new places as she struggles with changes.
Chloe back in town changes everything. Melanie will realize that Parker is the most important person in her life and she will do anything to keep him safe. But will she have the strength to do it?
Where we will end up - Undertow2 will finish with many questions answered and a few things that many have wanted to happen...finally...will occur. The fallout from these occurrences sets the stage for Undertow3.
4 HUGE SPOILERS - read at your own risk (highlight the text between the asterisks to reveal them)
*Philip's dreams come true when Chloe tells Philip she wants to be with him now, despite Victor's deal.
Philip and Melanie share a moment (and a kiss) that makes them see that everything wasn't lost in that crash.
Melanie walks away from Philip but she's not leaving Parker behind.
Philip finds out EVERYTHING about what happened to Parker.*
Hopefully everyone is still enjoying the story.... there is more to come as Philip gets caught up on those missing years and Chloe and Melanie deal with the price of loving Philip Kiriakis.
