Rafe saw Nicole come into his office out of the corner of his eye as he was finishing up paperwork. He turned to her with a big smile on his face and his heart started to beat in a now familiar double time. It had been several months since his birthday celebration and his feelings for Nicole have only grown stronger and stronger. He was sure now that he had fallen head over heels in love with his best friend, and he was still unsure what he should do about it. One the one hand, he wanted her with every breath he took. She made him smile and laugh and burn with a desire that was shocking to him. On the other hand, she was his best friend and he didn’t want to do anything that might make her feel uncomfortable or make her back away from him. He felt like he was tip toeing through a field of land mines, and one wrong move could blow his whole world apart. What he wanted to do was pull her into his arms and kiss her like his body was craving to do.

“Hey, what a nice surprise! What brings you by this afternoon ?” Rafe said as Nicole came in to stand in front of his desk.

“I came by to see if you wanted to join me for lunch.” Nicole said with a smile.

“That sounds like a wonderful idea. What would you like to eat?” Rafe asked as he got up and went around his desk just so he could stand closer to her. He smiled down at her as his body decided that this was the perfect time to go up in flames. The ache he had been fighting for the last couple of months came roaring back with a vengeance. Rafe looked down into Nicole’s beautiful eyes and thought he saw a spark of desire spring to life

Nicole’s breath caught as she looked up into Rafe’s eyes and she breathlessly said

“Anything you want is fine with me.”

Rafe couldn’t deny his desire anymore as he said

“This is what I want”

Then he finally gave in and kissed her with all the passion he had been denying all these past few months. The world seemed to go up in flames as desire so strong it made his hands shake poured through Rafe like a river of lava. His mind just burned away as his body took over. Nicole kissed him back with all the fire he could ever want as he pulled her tight against him and just kept kissing her with everything he had in him. Desperately, Rafe backed Nicole against his desk and lifted her onto it. With one hand behind her back, he swept his desk clean and laid her down to show her just how much he needed her. Just as they started to remove articles of clothing, an annoying alarm started going off. What in the world was that noise, and where was it coming from?

Rafe jerked awake as his alarm hollered from his night stand. He quickly pounded the buttons on the top to make the evil thing shut up then laid back in his bed with a heartfelt groan. His body felt like he had been dipped in Napalm as the burn of desire flowed through him. The dreams were getting more and more frequent over these last few months. This was driving him crazy, but Nicole was worth every single second of suffering his body was putting him through. He knew it was just a matter of time before he snapped and kissed her for real. Time for work. Maybe he would take his lunch break and go see Nicole at Basic Black. He could bring her something to eat and spend the hour driving himself even more crazy. Rafe couldn’t think of a single thing he would rather do.


Nicole looked up from her computer as Rafe knocked on the door with food in his hands. What a nice surprise it was to see his handsome face. Nicole waved him in as she logged out of the program she had been tracking sales with. Rafe was a much better alternative to spread sheets. She smiled at him as her crazy heart started trying to beat out of her chest and those darn butterflies took flight in her stomach again. This was getting ridiculous. Feeling she though she would never feel again were playing havoc with her body. What is a girl supposed to do when she finds herself falling in love with her best friend? Should she tell him how she feels? Doubt plagues her and holds her tongue silent. What if he doesn’t feel the same way? She has been wrong before and lost so much and she just can not make herself say anything. It is better to ache and long for more than to say something and risk loosing him from her life. Nicole’s body betrayed her as it started to pour molten desire through her bloodstream. She wanted to kiss him so bad.

“I brought your favorite. Burgers and fries from the Brady pub.” Rafe said as he walked in and placed the great smelling bag on her desk.

Nicole stood up and hugged Rafe tight to her aching body as she said

“Thank you, Rafe. You always know what I need.” She said as she leaned back and saw his eyes dance with mischief.

“I would be happy to give you anything you need.” Rafe said with a twinkle in his eyes.

Nicole couldn’t take it anymore and said

“This is what I need most “

Then she reached up and kissed him like she had been needing to for the last several months. Fire poured through her as Rafe kissed her back with everything he had. Bodies came together as hands and lips roamed over each other spreading heat the likes of which neither had known. Finally, Nicole thought as the fire quickly burned out of control

“Nicole” Rafe said as he continued to drive her out of her mind.

“Nicole” he said a little louder

“Nicole?” She heard as she blinked away the fantasy daydream she had been having while absently looking at her computer screen. She turned to Brady and asked

“Yes? Do you need something?” She said as she tried to get her heartbeat back to a normal rate.

“I asked you what you thought of our sales projections for next month, but you seemed a million miles away. I had to call your name three times. Is everything ok?” Brady asked looking concerned.

“Oh yes, I was just thinking about what I wanted for lunch, and the sales projections look good.” Nicole said with a twinkle in her eye. She knew she was in big trouble. She wasn’t sure how much more she could take before she did something crazy, like kiss Rafe for real. Just then, her phone rang. She looked down at the caller ID and smiled. It was Rafe.

“Hello, Rafe. It is nice to hear from you. I was just wondering what you were doing for lunch.” Nicole said with a tiny chuckle to herself.

“Funny, I was just wondering the same thing myself” Rafe said
“Just more proof that great minds think alike.” Rafe continued with a smile in his voice.

“Yes, I guess you are right. So, do you want to meet for lunch?” Nicole asked as Brady turned away to continue working on the new line that had just come out this spring.

“I would love to meet you for lunch.” Rafe said as Nicole smiled with mischief.

“Anything in particular you want?” Nicole asked.

“Yes, I have been craving something. How about the Brady Pub? Burgers and fries?” Rafe said with a secret grin on his face.

“Sounds great.” Nicole said
“I have been dreaming of burgers and fries myself” Nicole responded with a secret grin of her own.

Looks like both Nicole and Rafe are having similar fantasies. Too bad neither of those kisses actually happened. Glad they’re going out gor lunch.

Someone needs to make the first move. Curious who it will be. They both seem gun-shy.

It's just a matter of time. I'd love to see them talk about their feelings before acting on it, but the fantasies are fun!
