Chapter 4b
Philip kissed Chloe’s forehead as he rubbed her back. “You know, I may know someone who’s a therapist.”
Taking a step back, she said, “Really?”
“I don’t know what her specialty is, but I can find out. She’s a Coast Guard reservist, like me. She once mentioned she’s a pychologist … or a psychiatrist. I can’t remember which one. If she doesn’t work with children, I bet she could refer us to someone who does.”
“Oh Philip, it would be so great if you can find out more. This is too important to just pick someone at random from the Internet or to get recommendations from strangers on Care Dot Com. I thought about asking someone on the faculty at Parker’s school, but I don’t know them very well either and I’d rather not get his teachers involved, not yet anyway.”
He took her hands. “I know you’re really worried about Parker, but remember, you’re not in this alone anymore. You’ve got me now. We’ll figure this out together.”
This was one of those moments when Chloe knew why she’d fallen in love with Philip in the first place. She softly kissed his lips. “Thank you.” She was about to kiss him again, when she remembered Brady. “Oh. I almost forgot. Guess who’s in town?”
“Gloria Estefan?”
“No, silly.”
“Emilio Estefan?”
“No. Brady.”
“B— Brady? My nephew Brady?” Philip inadvertently took a step back. “What the hell is he doing here?”
“Well, Nicole took Holly to visit her family in Arizona and Brady was at loose ends, so—.”
He squinted at her. “Why, out of all the places he could have gone in the whole world, did he come here?”
Philip had that familiar expression on his face that made Chloe feel guilty, like she’d done something wrong when she hadn’t. She shrugged. “Um. I can’t speak for his motivation.”
Philip was certain he was looking at Brady’s motivation. “I can.”
Chloe chose to ignore that comment rather than fan the flames. “Anyway, we’re all supposed to get together for dinner tonight.”
“We are?”
Chloe grew uncomfortable under Philip’s gaze. “It’s alright, isn’t it?
Philip looked away. If he said no, he’d seem like an ass. So despite his reluctance and the fact Brady was the last person he wanted to break bread with, he looked back at her and said, “Sure. We’ll have dinner together.”

Wonder who this therapist is. Glad Chloe told Philip that Brady’s in town.

Philip is probably overreacting. I am curious to see how this dinner goes.

I don’t necessarily think that Chloe is Brady’s motivation in visiting....but he’s not just there because he wants to catch up with Philip and Chloe.

Is Philip overreacting? I’m a bit curious about his motives as well I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t stir the pot about Chloe living there etc

I hope Philip relaxes a little bit or dinner will be very tense. I'm curious about Brady's reasons for visiting.
It's good that Philip knows someone who may be able to help Parker.

Chapter 5a
Philip, Chloe and Parker met up with Brady at the Lighthouse Grill, a seafood restaurant off the Key, on mainland Marathon. The restaurant was inside the Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club where Brady was staying. The casual waterfront restaurant was attached to a historic lighthouse.
The group sat at a round table for four.
“Can we go up in the lighthouse,” Parker asked.
“Yes, angel. We’ll do that after dinner,” Chloe assured him.
“But s’pose it’s closed.”
“If it’s closed, we’ll come back another day.”
“But I wanna go up today.”
“After we eat.”
“But it might be closed.”
“Parker, hush,” Chloe told him gently, but firmly. “Let’s just relax and enjoy our dinner.”
Philip looked up from his menu and addressed Brady. “So, Nicole didn’t come with you this trip?”
“Nope,” Brady answered nonchalantly. “Nicole took Holly to see Faye, Taylor and Brandon.”
“Holly?” Parker asked. “My sister Holly?”
“That’s right,” Brady answered.
“I miss her so much.”
Reaching over and ruffling Parker’s hair, Brady said, “She misses you too, kiddo.”
“Can you bring her here?” the boy asked.
“I’m sure we can do that.”
“Soon?
“We’ll try.”
“When?”
“Parker,” Chloe interjected, “stop badgering Brady.”
“What’s badgering mean?”
“It’s fine,” Brady said.
“Are you and Aunt Nicole gonna get married?” Parker wanted to know.
“We might. We’ve been on and off forever, almost as long as—” Brady’s sentence trailed off as he looked at Chloe and Philip. “What about you guys? Is marriage in your future?”
Chloe and Philip exchanged glances. She reached for Philip’s hand and smiled. “There’s nothing official yet, but we’re talking about it,” she said.
Parker’s eyes widened with excitement. “You are? Really? When?”

I agree with doolfan4life. Something seems off, I just can’t quite figure out what.

I agree. Something is definitely off here.
I just have to laugh at Parker. I remember when the boys were that age. I hope Brady does get Holly there to see him soon.

Probably not best to have this conversation in front of Parker—little guy is going to get his hopes up....
And I agree—something is off here.

Parker is an inquisitive kid. Now that Parker knows they are talking about marriage he won't settle for vague answers.

Chapter 5b
“What about you guys?” Brady asked. “Is marriage in your future?”
Chloe and Philip exchanged glances. She reached for Philip’s hand and smiled. “There’s nothing official yet, but we’re talking about it,” she said.
Parker’s eyes widened. “You are? Really? When?”
“Uh oh,” Brady blurted. “Looks like I opened a can of worms.”
“It’s fine,” she sighed. “He’s just at that age where you can’t say anything without him reacting.”
“I’m sitting here, you know,” Parker said. “You’re talking about me like I’m not even here.”
“Oh, we know you’re here, Angel. You’re impossible to ignore.”
Philip set his menu aside. He pressed his fingers together and looked toward Brady. “So, Brady, what brings you back to Marathon of all places.”
“It’s where the wind blew me.”
“Really?” Philip spoke with a tone that was intended to tell Brady he didn’t believe it. “I’ve lived here for a year and the wind never blew you here before.”
“Before what?” Parker asked.
Philip threw a sidelong glance at Parker. “Before you and your mother moved here.”
“Maybe if anyone knew where you lived, you’d have had some company now and then,” Brady answered, “but you were incommunicado.”
“What’s ‘in commando’?” Parker asked.
“You’re right, Brady. That’s because I didn’t want any company,” Philip glared at Brady to make his point. “Least of all you.”
Chloe gasped. “Philip!” First Parker, now Philip, she thought to herself, trying to decide which of the two was acting more childish.
“Why didn’t you want company, Uncle Phil?” Brady asked, matching Philip’s sarcastic tone.
“Sometimes, flying under the radar is a good thing,” Philip mumbled.
Chloe cleared her throat to break the tension. She pointed to a spot on her menu. “So, um, Trip Advisor says the Conch is really outstanding here.”
“What’s Conk?” Parker asked.
“It’s a kind of seafood, angel. But I think you might like the fish sticks better.”
“What time is it?” Parker asked. “Is the lighthouse still open?”

-Brady needs to come clean about why he’s there. (Did Victor send him?) - Philip needs to find someone who can help him work through his many, many issues. -These are not discussions that should be happening in front of Parker. -I kind of just want Brady and Philip to take it outside and get all their testosterone issues out of the way. -Will someone just feed poor Parker???
