Chapter 25a
The waiting room at Marathon Memorial Hospital was standing room only. It seemed to Chloe that it was almost as crowded here as it had been in the shelter they just left. It was clear that a lot of people suffered as a result of Hurricane Katarina.
By the time she finally got to the front of the line at the nurse’s station, it was only to find they had no information for her about Philip. The only phrase the woman behind the counter knew was, “a doctor will speak with you soon” in English and in Spanish. Chloe wondered how that was going to work. How would a doctor even connect her with Philip? But she witnessed a continuous stream of doctors and nurses coming into the waiting area to confer with patients’ families. “What about Philip?” she mumbled to herself.
Parker tugged on Chloe’s blouse. “Mommy, did I hurt Uncle Phil when I hugged him? Is that why he fell?”
Chloe’s lips parted. She got down to eye level with her son and cupped his chin. “No angel, it’s not your fault. Not at all.”
“Then why did he fall down dead?”
Chloe’s stomach turned at the thought that Philip could be dead. But she told Parker, “He’s not dead, angel.”
“Then what’s wrong with him?”
“I don’t know yet,” she answered honestly. “The doctors are checking him out. Come here.” She gave him a hug. “We’re probably going to be here a while, so why don’t we see if we can find a place to sit.”

I'm glad Parker felt comfortable telling Chloe his fears. It must be terrifying for him to think that Philip is dead and that he killed him.

Oh bless that poor baby's heart! To think that he caused Philip to "die" has to be so terrifying for him. I hope that Chloe starts to put 2 and 2 together on Parker's fears and issues.

Chapter 25b
Finally, a female doctor called out “Mrs. Kiriakis.” She sort of bungled the name, but most people did. Chloe popped up immediately. She held Parker’s wrist as she approached the doctor who called her. Right now, it wasn’t important to correct her pronunciation or tell her she wasn’t married to Philip. She just needed to find out his condition. “Doctor? You called Mrs. Kiriakis?”
The doctor asked, “Is that you?”
Chloe didn’t answer directly. Instead, she asked, “Can you tell me about Philip’s condition?”
The doctor looked at the chart on the clipboard she was holding. “Patient is severely dehydrated. Patient presents with hypothermia. Fluid on the lungs.”
It wasn’t just a patient, Chloe thought to herself. It was Philip. “What’s being done for him?”
“We’re replacing lost fluids and—”
“Is he gonna die?” Parker asked.
The doctor glanced at Parker. Children always had a way of saying what everyone was really thinking but afraid to ask. Tears filled Chloe’s eyes as she stroked Parker’s hair. “Is he?” she rasped.
The doctor smiled reassuringly and patted Chloe’s arm. “No, he’s going to live. But we’re going to keep him here for the next 48 hours at least to replace his fluids and monitor his vitals. He’s healthy and strong, but he’s had a rough couple days. His ID says he’s a Coast Guard reservist and we’ve seen this condition many times after rescue missions. Considering the hurricane that just blew through the Keys, we’re making an educated guess that he was out on the water for an extended period.”
Chloe nodded, but she was too emotional to speak, thinking about everything Philip had gone through. “Is he awake? Can I see him?” she managed to say.
“He’s in and out of consciousness which isn’t unusual. A pulmonary specialist is examining him right now, but I’ll have the nurse come get you when the exam is finished.” She looked down at Parker. “Sorry to say, the boy can’t go in due to age restrictions. But there’s a child care center where he can wait. It’s down that hall on the left. You can review the facilitators’ credentials when you get there.”
“Thank you, doctor …” Chloe looked at her name tag. “Dr. Patel.”
“Oh, and if you check with the nurse’s station, they should have Mr. Kirk—”
“Kiriakis,” Chloe said.
“Yes. They should have his personal belongings for you to collect.”

Well that makes sense I’m glad he’s ok It irks me more that he was this way and all Gwen was concerned about was getting him home to get in his pants What a narcissist I hope the hospital doesn’t make a thing about Chloe being his fiancé and not his wife I somehow feel like Gwen will show up and make a show of this

Chapter 25c
Chloe clutched the plastic bag holding Philip’s belongings as she waited in a chair outside Philip’s room until the doctors would allow her to see him. After visiting the child care center and seeing all the families there, she felt comfortable enough to leave Parker there for the time being, and he seemed happy for a change of scenery and the prospect of spending time with other children. She was grateful he didn’t panic about being separated and surmised it was because she was still in the same building as he was. Plus, each of them had a two-way pager so they could reach each other.
She mindlessly looked inside the bag. Philip’s phone was inside, along with his wallet, a ball point pen, some loose change, and a piece of notepaper. She unfolded the piece of paper. It was a note addressed to her.
Chloe,
Coast Guard called me to help with rescues. Didn’t want to wake you, but I have to tell you I’m sorry. I was wrong to try and buy the club without talking to you first.
I know you hate the idea of riding out the storm in a shelter, but you and Parker will be safest there. If we lose contact, stay put. I’ll find you. Just don’t give up on us.
P&C4E
Tears rolled down her cheeks, realizing he must have meant to leave this note for her before he left the house yesterday morning. P&C4E was a reference to the initials Philip carved in a tree when they were 16. Philip and Chloe forever. Clutching the note to her chest, she murmured, “Oh Philip. I would never dream of giving up on us.” She needed to tell him that.
Finally, the door to his room opened and a nurse said, “He’s sleeping, but you can go in now.”
