In addition to what DD said, you have to remember that L&L's storyline played out nearly 40 years ago. This is a whole new generation of viewers and as much as Days may still be in the dark ages, the rest of the world has become a lot more enlightened in the past few decades. The storylines are very different but even so, I think L&L was offensive too. It just happened to play out during an unfortunate time in our history as a nation when victims of rape and domestic violence were often ridiculed as bringing it on themselves.
I would like to encourage everyone who is concerned about this issue and what another round of EJ/Sami will cost Days to please email your thoughts to Greg Meng, gmeng@dool.net.

Since I've never watched GH I'm curious to know how they dealt with the great romance of Luke and Laura starting with a rape. I don't know if that was dealt with or not. I'm not trying to go off topic but it seems like the same thing that's being discussed here. General Hospital did a really good job with the Luke and Laura rape storyline. They had both Tony Geary and Genie Francis who played Luke and Laura prepare for the storyline by meeting with a social worker before taping the rape scenes. Also after the rape occured there was this whole storyline that showed Laura going to rape counseling to deal with being raped and the writers at GH at the time even showed Luke being devastated and showing a ton of regret and remorse over what he had done to Laura. Anthony Geary did a totally amazing job portraying Luke's guilt over raping Laura. One of the things I did hate though is that a few years later GH tried to rewrite the rape stuff and make it look like more of a seduction type situation rather than rape when the writers decided they wanted to pair Luke and Laura together as a couple because of their amazing chemistry with each other. I was so glad though that in 1998 the rape stuff was revisited again when Luke and Laura's son Lucky found out that Luke raped his mom. This IMO was actually some of the best stuff that GH has ever shown. I really liked the fact that Lucky got a chance to deal with the reveal of what his father had done to his mother and I also liked that Luke and Laura got a chance to finally deal with all their unresolved issues surrounding the rape. I was totally glad that GH decided to go back and deal with the rape stuff again instead of just pushing it aside like it never ever happened.

I really don't believe that the current writers are foolish enough to do another round of Sami/EJ. But, I do think that they're up to something, and without actually knowing, I'm going to watch how this all plays out.
I think that it's possible for redemption as Jack was a big villian who raped Kayla. I mean, I couldn't stomach looking at him on screen for the longest time. And, then he turned things around, and you could see the anguish of what he'd done, and how he punished himself and pushed Jenn away for that reason. And, it came up again, when Jenn was raped by Lawrence, and she pushed Jack away for being a rapist. Days has delicately treated rape in it's seriousness in the past. However, when it came to Sami/EJ, the past writing team missed the mark. I hope that this writing team doesn't make that mistake.

^^ And Days didn't attempt to redeem Jack with his rape victim Kayla, but instead responsibly showed Jennifer as continuing to deal with the emotional scars from what Lawrence did to her -- and that is what Jack saw and realized he had done to Kayla. The way EJ/Sami have been handled doesn't come close to any other possible example ... and more importantly for the future of Days it has sent viewers exiting en masse like no other.
I've wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt took Trey, but just in case I think the show needs to hear these concerns (again I recommend sending emails, calling the comment line, etc.) and a request to pull the scenes should the rumors be true.

I agree that the way they turned Jack around (through Jenn's rape) was very well played and how it all unfolded.
But, before we all get our hackles up, we should see how it's going to play out. After all, it could be a nightmare or some dream sequence, or another scenario that isn't what it seems.

Thanks for the info about GH everyone. I definitely don't see Ejami in the same way as Luke and Laura but it was the only sort of example that came to mind.
