I agree with everything that Maks said. The judges say things for the shock and entertainment value not paying any attention to the fact that they are talking about real people. He also has a point about Derek. Certain pros get all the people that have the potential to go far in the competition while others essentially get the shaft.

If the judges are there to judge the "dancing" then stick to that. No one needs to hear that they look like an ewok or a penguin. How does that help their dancing?!? Bruno used to be funny, but now he's just mean. Carrie Ann is stupid and Len is too old. New judges please!!!

It is a double-edged sword though. The judges say nice job or horrible dance and that does nothing to help the celeb learn anything, but if offer constructive criticism there is too much reaction from the audience for it to be heard. Most of the time, Len does try to point out what went wrong in a dance or things to work on, but he's booed by the audience every single time he does. Even a comment about it being someone's worst dance is at least still about the dance and not their personal appearance.
Carrie Ann is too busy blubbering or being the lift police to offer anything. Bruno is just to busy trying to figure out some stupid saying and a way to gyrate or throw his hands about when he does his little speeches. Len comes across as the fuddy-duddy grouch when stuck between those two.

I agree that their negative comments can still be constructive. And often the un-educated (about dancing) studio audience boos too loud at anthing vaguely negative to really hear what they're trying to say. But they don't judge everyone on the same criteria. Last week Chaz got pretty good scores for a lack-luster dance because "his spirit was good." This week, he looks like a penguin and was "truly awful." What? Figure out what you're looking for and go with it.
