chapters 25-28
Jack was leaning against the door jam , " So I will meet you and Dean downstairs in thirty minutes? " Sara was standing in front of him in her robe " Yes, so we better get moving. " Jack ran his finger over her lips " We could just shower together , save time and water , good for the environment and all. " Sara laughed and tossing her hair pushed back, " Then we would never get ready. " Jack smiled " Okay , okay, but I bet I make it down there before you do." " It's a bet , " Sara said " What are we playing for? " Jack raised an eyebrow and smirked " Loser buys dinner tonight ? " Sara looked at her watch " Sure , you are on , " she leaned up and kissed him then shoved him out the door and slammed it shut. Jack shouted " Hey , very sneaky, " then he raced down the hallway up to his room.
When the elevator doors opened Jack's smug face appeared , "Well hello again , I think , yes, steak for dinner would be wonderful. " Sara frowned " You didn't win , it's a tie. " Jack shook his quickly, " Ooooh no , I was already in the elevator going down. " Sara though for second and replied " I think it should be dutch since it was a tie . " When the doors opened on Dean he could her them arguing like a couple of two year olds, " It is not " "yes it is " They stopped in front of Dean and he told them , " I don't want to know. Lets get some breakfast . "
Jennifer , Maggie and JJ were in the courtyard at Salem Place sitting down for breakfast.
" So Jennifer , have you made any decisions yet? " Jennifer shook her head then found her voice , " No, Daniel is trying to be patient but Jack is still angry , he said he was going to move on. I need to try and talk to Jack again. " Maggie looked into Jennifer's eyes , should she say what she was thinking , was her niece ready to hear it. She knew it must be said ,
" Jennifer don't you see what you are doing? " Jennifer frowned in question. Maggie continued , " You are trying to make sure that you can have jack back before you end things with Daniel.You shouldn't be afraid to be alone. If you aren't in love with Daniel then end it now. I know in my heart you and Jack will find your way back together. " Just as she was about to answer those words he was interrupted by the sound of JJ 's voice , " Mommy look there is Daddy. Can I go over to him, Please? " Jennifer saw Jack, Sara and Dean looking over the menu board at the counter. Jack was standing behind Sara and Jennifer's heart felt like it fell to feet. He was behind Sara looking over her head and they all we chatting, but it was what Jack was doing absentmindedly that had her attention. His hands were on her shoulders and his thumbs were moving across her skin. It was a small gesture but an intimate one. Jack would never touch someone like that , she knew because she had only ever seen him do that to her and the children. That simple gesture was confirmation enough to know that Jack had become intimate with Sara and the tears began to well, choking her. " Mommy? Can I go over? " Jennifer shook her head to clear her thoughts, " Sure baby go ahead. " JJ hopped of the stool and ran over. Jennifer watched as the threesome turned their heads as the little boy called out to them. Jack turned and lifted his son in the air kissing him on the cheek. Then after a few exchanged words he turned and looked at Jennifer, then he began to walk over to them.
" Hello Maggie , How are you ? " Maggie stood and hugged Jack , " I am fine Jack , How are you ? It's so good to see you . " Jack gave her a small smile , " It's good to see you as well, "
" turning to Jennifer, " A moment of your time? " Jennifer nodded and stood up Jack looked to Maggie again " I'm sure I will be seeing you soon Maggie. " Jennifer stood before him. She wanted to ask him if her observations were correct , had he become intimate with Sara?
Jennifer that would only anger Jack and they would end up in another yet another argument. " What is it ? " Jack was trying to read the expression on her face but then he let it go, " Uhh , Do you know if you packed my tux ? I am going to need one for the benefit next week and was wondering if mine was here in Salem , or do I need to rent ? " Jennifer took a deep breath , all the things they had to speak about and this was the one he picked. Then Jennifer though , she could get Jack to the house to look through the boxes for it, and that meant he would be without Sara. Perhaps she could talk to him then, " Yes , I believe I have , you can come by and check the boxes if you like" Jack considered it , he couldn't let her think he was afraid to be alone with her, " Alright I will give you a call and arrange a time and day. " Dean and JJ walked over to get the rest of JJ's breakfast. JJ heard his name and turned to listen to the rest of his parents conversation, " Do you think that you can keep Jack a bit longer today , we have some ideas about finding out where Alamain might be. " Jennifer nodded " Sure Abby and I and Aunt Maggie were going to do some shopping , I could take him with us. " JJ gasped out loud " Nooo , Daddy can't I go with you ? " Then tugging on his father's shirt , " Don't make me go shopping for girl clothes!!!" Dean laughed out loud then leaning down to JJ he said , " I hear that . " Both looked at Jack and he smiled " Well , who can argue with that. Ok you may come with us. " Jennifer was smiling at them , then the smile faded " Do you really think it is a good idea to bring him along Jack , I mean it might be dangerous. " Jack frowned , " I would never do anything to put our son in danger Jennifer. Besides it just research. " Jennifer looked relieved , " Oh ok, did you need some help, I am pretty good at research . I could come along .... " Jack put his hand up stopping her mid sentence , " Not necessary , you go shop but make sure that agent is never too far behind you . " Then the they were gone joining Sara for breakfast . He did add that bit at the end about the agent, he still worried about her , and that made Jennifer smile.
They decided that the guys would start canvassing the hotels and Sara would look into recently rented or purchased house in the lake area, specifically Jack old family home. Dean and JJ walked away and Jack leaned down and gave Sara a quick kiss, " Don't forget you owe me dinner. " Sara gave him a look " That needs to be debated further. "
Jack and Dean had went to every high end hotel in Salem, nobody had seen Lawrence or would admit to seeing him. The had stopped at the pier to regroup. Dean sighed , " I hope Sara is having better luck . " He and Jack were deep in conversation as JJ noticed three men at the other end of the pier . His face scrunched up and he squinted his eyes , as the men turned to walk away JJ saw the tallest man's face . " Uh , Daddy? " Jack was distracted and did not answer JJ. The little boy had to get his father's attention before the other group of men left. " Daddy ?...." Now JJ tugged on his fathers arm hard , " DADDY!!" Jack looked down at his son , " Jack it is very rude to interrupt when someone is.... " JJ was impatient ,
" Yea , I know , sorry but isn't that the man in your picture over there? " Both Dean and Jack turned and followed the boys pointed finger, then Dean said " Holy.." He took out his camera and began to snap photos. It was Lawrence , JJ had been right, the lawyer was there as well. The third man was assumed to be some sort of security. Jack leaned down and hugged his son. " You are amazing little man. " JJ smiled brightly happy to make his father proud.
Jack sat and watched as Dean and JJ played video games. He had called Bo and told him about spotting Lawrence on the pier. Dean emailed him the photos and they waited for Sara to return. She came breezing through the door with a smile. " You were right the former Deveraux mansion is being rented by a corporation whose lawyer is none other than Thomas Bentley. " I knew it ! So typical of Lawrence to try and rub it in my face. " Sara gave a sad smile " Well I am starving , I am going to jump in the shower and get ready for dinner. " Jack raised his eyebrows " That sounds like a great idea , let's go little man we need to get you cleaned up. " JJ paused the game , " Do we have to go out ? " Dean joined in
" Yea , my dogs are tired from all that walking. Let's just get burgers and stay in , the Star Wars trilogy is on tonight. " JJ whipped his head around to Dean " The original three? " Dean smiled " Yup, you like? " JJ gave him his brightest smile. Jack frowned " Really what is your obsession with these films? He has one been one character or another from those films every Halloween since he was able to pick his own costumes." The turning to Dean he said " As a matter of fact if I recall correctly so did you . You used to be Dark Sader right? " Knowing that would make his son laugh, and it did. almost nothing warmed his heart the way the sound of his little boy laughing. " DARTH VADER " both Dean and JJ said at the same time. Dean smirked " You haven't clue do you ? " Jack returned the look " Nary a one. " Dean and JJ talked Jack into allowing them to stay in and have a movie night. He was in such a good mood in fact, that he even consented to allowed the boy to stay up for all three movies. Knowing of course he would never make it through the second. " Wow, thanks Daddy !" Jack brought him upstairs to put on his jammies while jack changed for dinner. Jack wore a royal blue shirt over black slacks , remembering how he was always told how wearing blue brought out his eyes.
Dean was gathering his camera and laptop when Sara emerged from the bedroom. He stood and stared at her , " What ? " she asked. He had to admit she looked lovely. She wore a black sleeveless dress which was lace on top , showing a hint of cleavage , the rest was tight to the body and ending just above the knee , she had even put on a medium heal that was strapped around the ankles making her shapely legs that much more appealing and she smelled great too. " I hope you know what you are doing. I saw the way you two were at lunch. You slept with him didn't you? " Sara's cheeks turned pink , " Yes , but it's ok , there aren't any strings attached. It is what it is. " Dean sighed " Oh Sara, you know he still loves Jennifer don't you? " Sara did not want to talk about this now and ruin her night , " Yes , I know , but this is good for both of us right now. " Dean shaking his head , took her by the shoulders , " And what about later? Then what? " Sara walked away turning her back to Dean, " Dean I am fine with this anyway it plays out. " Jack knocked on the door and entered the room with JJ, " Come on Luke , let's get over to my room before the burgers get there. " Dean said. JJ thought that was funny and went along with it , " Ok Han , let's go, " then running back to his father and hugging him , " May the force be with you Daddy. " and they were gone. Jack looked Sara up and down and remarked " You look beautiful." Sara smiled.
" Yes , Mr deveraux , your table will be ready in a moment. " Jack and Sara went to the bar and had a drink. Jack felt a hand touch his arm and turned to see his sister standing there, " Hi Jack. " she said simply. Jack was still hurting by what he deemed his sister's betrayal.
He knew he could not hold on to this forever , he settled for cordial. " Hello Adrienne, Ahh Adrienne this my friend Sara Jamison, Sara this is my sister Adrienne. " Sara beamed , " It's so nice to meet you. " Same here, I am a big fan. I want to thank you for your part in bringing my brother home safely." Sara looked to Jack who was staring at his shoes, " It was nothing really. " Adrienne turned to her brother and whispered " For what it's worth Momma and Steve layed into me too. I would like the chance to make it up to you Jack. Maybe we can have lunch this week, you know and talk? " Jack looked into the eyes of his younger sister, remembering how she had stood by him countless times in the past, "Sure , sure that would be great. " Adrienne gave him one of her trademark smiles , "I will call call you. " Sara chuckled and Jack looked at her with a question on his face " You are a good man Charlie Brown . " Jack crinkled his nose at her " Good Grief. "
As they were led to their table Jack saw her across the room . Looking as lovely as ever. She was there with him of course. Jennifer knew almost instinctively that Jack Deveraux had entered the room. She turned and their eyes locked. Sara asked if he wanted to leave. " No, "
Jack said " No we have to get use to running into each other sometime, might as well be tonight. "
Jack and Sara were led to a table and seated , Sara glanced over the top of her menu at Jack. " stop staring at me . I'm fine . " Sara smiled behind the menu " I was just checking" Sara could feel Jennifer's gaze on them , " Her date is going to get ticked off if she keeps looking at you. " Jack just shrugged. After their meal had been ordered Jack asked Sara to dance. Well I don't know , is it going to cost me extra. " Jack gave her a lopsided grin , " No , consider it a bonus." They moved to the dance floor followed shortly by Jennifer and Daniel. Daniel had already wanted to leave but Jennifer insisted it was fine. " Hello Jack, Sara , " Both Jack and Sara said in unison "Jennifer, " Then she remembered Daniel " Oh Sara this is Dr Daniel Jonas, this is Sara Jamison. " Daniel smiled and said that he of course new who she was and it was a pleasure to meet her. Jennifer asked jack where JJ was and he told her about the Star Wars marathon. " He really loves those movies. Do you remember the Halloween he wouldn't take off his costume even when it was bedtime? " Jack chuckled
and looked at Sara " Until he realized you can't sleep with a helmet on . " Jennifer was trying to keep the conversation going , " When did you want to come by to go through the boxes? " She could tell Jack was trying to move away from them. " I am not sure , sometime tomorrow I guess. If you'll excuse us our meal has arrived. " Jennifer knew she was being dismissed. She watched as Jack took Sara's hand as they walked back to the table.
Jack made a conscious effort at first not to look at Jennifer, then it was a natural one , having engrossed himself in conversation with Sara. It was so easy to talk with her , she was every bit as witty and sarcastic as he and it was nice to laugh for a change. Laughing was something he found himself doing more of lately. None of this escaped Jennifer. She stole glances and watched how comfortable he was with Sara , just as she thought she had been with Daniel. Daniel had enough of Jennifer concentrating on the table and not on them. " This was suppose to be a romantic dinner, " he said pointedly. " I am sorry , I just keep wondering what she is up to. " Daniel shook his head " It looks like she is up to the main course , lets go. " They got up to leave and Jennifer and Jack locked eyes again , she gave him a small smile but he just turned away.
They entered the door to Deans room and expecting to find JJ asleep and found Dean asleep and snoring as well. " So much for the trilogy. " Jack said. " I think I will just leave Jack he , he seems quite comfortable. Now Dean on the other hand , " they both stood over him , heads tilted staring at him. " We should do something to him, but what? " Jack contemplated that idea , " Let's draw a beard on him in permanent marker , " Jack said with a frown. Sara looked at him , surprised , " Seriously? You can't still be harping on that. " Jack nodded , " Do you have any idea how many layers of skin a scrubbed off before I got the marker off my face? " Sara rolled her eyes , " Let it go , Jack . " Jack was searching the room , " A marker , a marker , my kingdom for a marker. " Sara watched him a moment
" We could put make up on him. " Jack cocked his eyebrow , " Ooh , I like it , Is he still a deep sleeper? " Sara nodded , then took her make up out . They proceeded to put blush and lipstick , eyeshadow and mascara on Dean's stubbled face. Then Sara gently gathered some of his hair and put it in a clip on top of his head. She and Jack could hardly contain themselves almost to the point of tears. Then they took out their cell phones and snapped pictures of him , then taking turns posed behind him on the couch. Sneaking out to the hallway , they stifled their laughter all the way to Sara's room. They plopped down onto the couch , " Boy is he going to be ticked. " Sara said. Jack agreed " More so when he sees the photos. " They laughed a bit more and Sara rested her head on Jack's shoulder , his hand on her leg. " We didn't have dessert , I think I have some chocolate bars want one ? , " she got up but Jack grabbed her hand and pulled her down into his lap. " I have your dessert right here " he said as he buried his face into her neck.
Jennifer and Daniel were on the couch kissing. He got up and took her hand , pulling her to her feet. He started towards the stairs , Jennifer felt her mouth go dry , she could not do this. " Daniel " she stopped him in his tracks. " I just can't. " He was angry , she was giving him mixed signals again. " I wonder if Jack is telling Sara that tonight. You know what Jennifer I can't either , I can't wait for you forever or are you waiting for Jack? You need to make a choice , one way or another or I will make it for you. " As the door slam all Jennifer could think of were Daniel's words, was Jack making love to Sara tonight , had he really made love to her already? Having made love to Daniel she really had no right to ask , but she had to know .
Jack had dragged himself up to his room to shower and dress , they wanted to try and get to see Dean's face when he woke. As he towel dried his hair he heard a knock on his door.The face on the other side was the last face he expected to see. " You gonna invite me in Jackson or what? " Jack smiled brightly " Steve."
" Steve ! What are you doing here ? " Steve tilted his head and gave his brother a look of slight impatience , " Am I standing out here or are you gonna invite me in ? " Jack stepped aside and allowed his brother to enter. " It's good to see ya Jackson. " Jack wanted to tell his brother it was better than good, it was great in fact, but he settled for , " Well it's good to see you as well. You here alone? " Steve nodded , " Yea , had some business to take care of , signing the papers on the sale of our house . I am only here for a day so I thought I would check up on my baby brother. " Jack would never in a million years admit it to Steve , but he secretly loved it when he called him that. " Have you seen Adrienne ? " Steve was studying Jack trying to gage what was really going on with him , something he was usually good at. " No not yet, I figured I would go see her and dimples after I leave the lawyers office. I thought if you weren't too busy we could have dinner or something tonight. I got a flight out at ten and without getting all mushy about it , I thought maybe we could , you know , spend some time . " Jack did so enjoy watching his brother squirm,
"Well sure , sure that would be great , I would like that. " Steve looked around the room a bit , " So you staying here huh? You at least talking with Jennifer? " Jack sighed loudly ,
" Jennifer and I are over , her choice not mine. She moved on and well I am seeing someone as well. " Steve looked shocked , " You seeing someone ? Really ? Well this I gotta hear. "
As Jack opened his mouth the door opened and in came Sara " Jack, Jack , boy is he ticked , he..." The sight of Steve Johnson stopped the rest of that sentence, " Oh I am so sorry I didn't mean to interrupt. " Jack walked over to her and placed his hand on the small of her back , " Oh no, not at all , I would like you to meet my brother Steve, Steve this is Sara Jamison. Sara and I went to college together . " Sara was thrilled to meet Steve of course she had recognized him from photos she had seen, " I an so pleased to meet you. " Steve eyed her and the way Jack look at her , so this is the woman Jack was seeing , he thought to himself. " Likewise. " Steve replied. The door burst open and JJ came running in still his pajamas, " Good morning Daddy! " Jack turned and opened his arms and enfolded his little boy in them , picking him up in the air. " Good morning little man, how was your movie night ? ' JJ smiled " It was great , " Jack told his son that they had company and there was someone he wanted him to meet. Steve was beaming as he watched his brother
interact with his son. " This is.." JJ was looking at Steve , " I know you my uncle Steve , you are my dad's brother. " Steve laughed "that's right , how'd you know that. " he said teasing the little boy a bit. " Easy , I've seen pictures and you're the only one with one eye." Jack's eyes grew wide " Jack! " JJ looked confused " Well he is. " Steve said through his laughter,
" It's alright, the little dude is right. I very happy to finally see you again Jack. " Dean walked in and stared down Jack and Sara . " JJ go get washed up and dressed ok ? " After the boy left the room Dean approached the two , not even noticing Steve. " You two think you're so funny huh? You do know what they say about payback right ? " Jack gave him a sly smirk " Yes and I believe you do now as well. " Dean squinted " What do you mean ? "
Jack returned Dean's expression, " Need I remind you of a certain night and a permanent marker . Suffice it to say , I believe i have exacted my revenge. " Dean stared at him slack jawed., " That was thirty years ago , you really don't let things go do you., fine I will let you have this. Consider us even , but you on the other.. " Sara decided to put Dean into his place, " Oh yea ? How about the snake in the shower ? " Dean started to chuckle " Oh yea that was a classic, " then turning to Jack, " She was in a field shower in Iraq and i slipped , she came running out , bare naked screaming , snake ! snake ! " He realized they weren't laughing , and clearing his throat , he said quietly , " It was a rubber snake. " Steve looked at Jack and said " Do I want to know? " Jack shook his head " Not really , " then turning to Dean " Dean this my brother Steve , Steve this is my friend Dean Michaels. " Steve shook his hand and said " Wow Jackson has a friend , " Dean found that amusing. " say listen Jackson I gotta boogie on down the road , I will meet you back here say around seven ? " Jack told him that would be fine and then he was gone.
Jennifer had put on a pot of coffee as she awaited Jack's arrival. She was anxious to spend some time with him , hoping to get some of the ice that had formed between them melting. The bell rang and when she opened the door JJ entered first, " Hi Mommy. " Jennifer smiled at her son " Hi baby. " " Can I watch TV ? " Jennifer told him tas and he was off. " Ahh, so where can i find the boxes ? " Jennifer tried to not show her disappointment in his tone, "Upstairs , in my old room." Jack went upstairs and Jennifer went into the kitchen, after giving JJ some milk and cookies she headed upstairs with two cups of coffee. Jack was going through his things and making a pile to take with him. " I
brought you some coffee. " jack was startled then said " Oh thanks. " She watched him go through his things, trying to start start a conversation. Jack spoke first , " Do you think I could leave Jack with you , Steve is in town for the night and he wanted to get together. "Jennifer answered " Oh yeah, sure. How is Steve? " Jack told her he was fine as he kept his eyes in the box he was searching. " Will Sara be going with you tonight too? " Now she had his attention , " Why do you want to know ? " How to approach this she thought. " Well , I mean when I saw the two of you last night you looked......close. " Jack's face was was like stone, " Yes we are. " Jennifer couldn't help herself , the words just came out, " How close?I mean Jack , I just hope you aren't letting her push you into something you aren't ready for. " The crease began to form between his eyes , " you are the only one who does that to me.' Jennifer looked down , " You just shouldn't rush into anything, that's all I'm trying to say. " Jack shook his head " Speaking from experience are you? " Jennifer nodded " Yeah , I guess I am. " Jack turned from her " I see. Why don't you just ask me Jennifer ? You want to know if I slept with Sara, don't you? That is what you are getting at isn't it ? " The opportunity was before her , dare she take it? She knew she must, " Yes , Did you sleep with her? " The question had been asked , was she ready for the answer she thought. She knew that Jack had never strayed from her , even through divorce but was this time different. For Jack he stopped a minute then he spoke the words that broke her heart. " Not that it is any of your business but , " choosing just the right words " Yes Sara and I have been intimate. " The air was sucked out of her lungs and her head was swimming with the admission. Finding her voice she said , " Did you do this to get back at me ? Because I..." Jack spun around on her " Not everything is about you Jennifer. I will admit that for most of my life it has been. I did everything for you , to protect you , to take care of you , to make you happy. This time , this time I am doing something to make me happy. " He turned away from her again , " Jack don't you see , she is taking advantage of you while you are feeling hurt. " Again he turned to her " You don't know her . She would never do that to me .She has done everything to protect me. " Jennifer couldn't believe her ears , " You are defending her ? " Now he he let loose " Yes I am defending her . How does feel hmm. It's quite a bitter pill to swallow , one I have choked down many a time, Baby Howie , Colin , Patrick, yes very difficult to swallow indeed. Tell me how is Dr Jonas? Is there trouble in paradise? Is that what this sudden interest in my sex life is all about? I am a single man after all , a situation a might add that was of your making not mine! I don't know were Sara and I are going , but I will tell you this , I am going to enjoy every minute of it. I will tell you another thing , It feels damn good to have someone want me ." Crying now and shaking her head , " I thought you left me again. " Jack didn't think he could stand anymore " When I left you it was for you. when I left you and Abigail, I thought it was because you would be better off without me. My life was a living hell without you. I came back because I couldn't stand to be away from you , both of you for another second.It was always about what I deemed best for you , now I am going to do what I think is best for me. " Gathering up his clothes he walked out the door and left her standing there crying.
Jack was still wound up after his encounter with Jennifer. How could she say those things to him ? She ended their marriage not him , it was none of her business what he did with his life now. His life, it has always been their life in his mind , now they were living separate lives again. As angry as he was , he knew he would love her always.....forever.But he was beginning to realize that he could be ok without her. Sara showed him that. She was right when she had told him that being with Jennifer didn't define him , he defined himself. Perhaps he could find the right mix of who he was alone and who he had become with Jennifer and combine them. Actually now that he thought about it , he liked who he was right now , again it was Sara who had shown him that as well. He cared for her a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed her company. Not to mention the sex , that was great. It had been so long since he had been with someone other than Jennifer, he had worried that he would never desire another woman. He need not have worried . Sara excited him on so many different levels , mind and body.
" Helloooo , earth to Jack , you going to stand out there all day or what? " Jack blinked back his thoughts, Sara was standing in front of him she was in tight yoga pants that highlighted all her curves , and a tank top that also clung to her. She had her hair pulled up and clipped at the top of her head. At that moment he was thankful for her being here , with him. She looked very sexy and he could feel the tension from earlier drain from him,
" Hi there. " Jack came in and plopped down on the couch. " That bad huh? " she said. "What do you mean? " Jack questioned. " You were zoned out and you didn't look too happy. " Jack wondered if he should tell Sara about what had happened , so he just offered a condensed version. When Jack finished Sara looked at him closely , " You ok? "
Jack sighed , " Yeah , I am fine." She smiled at him " Good." Sara sat back down at her computer and resumed writing. Jack made them coffee and brought her a cup. He placed the cup down beside her, glancing down at her neck. He felt an overwhelming urge to kiss it , and why shouldn't he , Jack thought, There were several hours before Steve was to return , as long as Dean didn't show up. Jack quietly walked over and locked the door, just in case. Now he stood behind her and brought his lips down to the smooth skin on the back of her neck . He kissed a trail up and down around to her ear where he whispered , " You busy? " Sara gave a small laugh ," What does it look like to you? Jack's lips curved into a smile even as they continued kissing her , " It looks like you need a break. " Sara thought a moment " You might be right , " then she quickly swiveled her chair around and pulled Jack on to her lap kissing him , " Come here handsome ."
Jack was officially in a good mood now. He was whistling as he opened the door for his brother " Hey Steve, come on in. " Steve entered and his head swiveled in all directions, "Where is the little dude? " It always amused Jack the way his brother talked, " with his mother. " Steve nodded , " Ahhh , how is Jennifer ? " Jack swallowed hard , " Fine I guess. "
Steve and Jack sat at a table in the bar with burgers and beers. " Ok so let's see , you gave me the low down on the Alamain situation , you've told me about my niece and nephew so you gonna talk to me about this woman you're seeing? " Jack smirked " Well you met her briefly , Sara , we have a history. " Jack told Steve everything , how they net , how he left her to protect her from Harper and he told him about their son , Robert. Steve looked sadly at his younger brother grieving for him. " I'm real sorry Jack. Well you haven't mentioned Jennifer . What are you gonna do about her ? " Jack shook his head , " There is nothing to do , she has moved on , it's been quite a ride but it's over now. " Steve eyed his brother , " Who you kidding , man ? You love her and you ain't gonna just wish that away. " " I know that , but one could give it the old college try. " Steve went on " Is that what this fling with your college sweetheart is about ? Jack shook his head " No you are wrong about Sara. It isn't about what happened with Jennifer. It's about me and they way she makes me feel. I am happy when I am with her and I really need that " Steve looked at Jack with affection , " I don't know Jack , maybe you do need this , I just don't want to see you hurt anymore , You and Jennifer belong together,maybe you should try and work things out before you completely lose one another ." Then Steve added " I may not be able to help you with your love life , but If you need me here for this Alamain thing , you call and I am on the next flight here. " Jack groped for words , " Ahh thanks , that means alot to me. "
