Victor refuses to give Philip one bit of positive feedback regarding the company. It's sad.

Chapter 6
“Okay dad, out with it. I know it gives you immeasurable pleasure to cut me down,” Philip asserted, “but something tells me there’s more to all this than you’ve revealed so far. What the hell did you come here for besides to harass me, or was that the entire reason for this visit?”
Victor slowly shook his head back and forth, letting some time elapse before he answered. “It may surprise you to know that my reason for coming here was precisely the opposite of what you seem to think. I did not come here to harass you.”
“No? Coulda fooled me.”
Victor rose from his seat and walked to the other side of the table a few feet from where Philip was standing. That side of the room was entirely glass. Victor looked through the floor to ceiling window, casting his gaze downward from the sixteenth floor. “I can see why you like it here in Chicago. Much more suited to a young executive than Salem.”
Philip shook himself. His father was acting like they never had the conversation that just took place. “It’s home now,” Philip said.
“I’ve been thinking of stepping down.”
It took Philip a minute to realize he wasn’t talking about the view anymore. “You’re finally going to retire?” Victor raised a brow and faced Philip. “Sorry, that came out wrong.”
“No, I think it came out precisely the way you meant it. Philip, I’ve been following your progress very closely since you became the head of Titan Media and I’ve been pleased.”
“It would be nice to hear that once in a while,” Philip blurted out.
“Up until the past few months, I’d agree that things were going swimmingly. You can deny the decline all you want, but it’s not my imagination, and before you start to question my sanity, I can assure you I’m not getting senile. A little forgetful maybe.”
“Still waiting to hear your point.”
“You never were patient, even as a youngster.” Victor laughed wryly. “My point is that I was planning to turn Titan over to you. All of Titan, not only Titan Media.” Philip knew a “but” was coming. “But sadly, I cannot recommend to the board of directors your appointment to CEO while you remain entangled with that woman.”

Well then Philip doesn't need to be CEO of Titan. As much as I dislike the way Chloe has treated Philip recently, being with her or not is Philip's decision to make, not Victor's.

Wow, talk about blackmailing your own son! I can't believe that Maggie knows about this. No way would she go along with it. Unless Victor gets off his high horse, Philip will be looking for a new job.

Oh wow. I wasn't expecting Victor to announce that he was thinking of stepping down. I'm not sure Philip will like the idea of giving up Chloe, though.

Wow. I didn't think Victor would be announcing his plans on retirement. Kinda sad to hear Victor admit that he's getting a little forgetful. This is twice his sanity has been brought up. I'm not liking where this is going.

I figured it was an ultimatum I hope Philip brushes it off He doesn't need the whole company If he breaks up with Chloe it should be because it wasn't working out not because victor forced him I don't believe victor would ever really hand it over to him anyways He prefers addicts like Brady instead

Leave it to Victor to tell Philip that being with Chloe is ruining his chances to run Titan. I can't wait to see Philip's reaction.

What the heck??? Sorry, Kpatch....I'm going to insist that you write my dad into this storyline so he can teach Victor how fathering is done!!! Or at the very least, maybe VIctor can have an encounter with George? It would be awfully hard to leave Titan, but that may be Philip's only alternative, if Victor is telling him the truth and not just trying to manipulate him. With his experience, I'm sure he could land a job wherever he liked or start a company of his own from the ground up.

Chapter 7
"Sadly, I cannot recommend to the board of directors your appointment to CEO while you remain entangled with that woman.”
Philip’s eyes went wide. “Is that what this is all about? Some elaborate plot to get me to break up with Chloe?”
“It’s not a plot. It’s more like …”
“What? An ultimatum?”
“Oh, I’ve never cared for the term ultimatum. More like a ‘take it or leave it’ offer.”
Philip smoothed back his hair and raised his voice. “Are you serious? You want me to leave Chloe and run Titan? Is that what you’re suggesting? And if it is, do you really think I’d do that?”
Victor remained calm. “Of course, you can do what you will. I can’t force you. In the end, it’s your choice. But if you stay with Chloe, the company goes to Brady. He becomes chairman of the board and Chief Executive Officer with majority control and stock ownership.”
Philip took a deep breath to try and control the rage that was rising in his chest. “I see. So you’re setting up yet another competition between me and Brady because you know how competitive we’ve been since we were kids. And if it’s not Brady, it’s Justin. Or Deimos. Or Sonny. And now you’re dangling a carrot, which you think I’ll bite just to get a leg up on Brady?? If that’s what you think, you don’t know me at all, do you? I would never leave Chloe for some stupid business opportunity.”
“Stupid? Is that what you really think of Titan? Because if it is, perhaps you should consider working somewhere else.”
“Wow.” Philip adjusted his tie. “You want to fire me altogether, don’t you? You’re just looking for an excuse to get rid of me. Well, it wouldn’t be the first time you’ve fired me.”
“That was not my intention. My intention was to step back and hand the reins over to my heir. Ideally, it would be my son, but not if he continues to show the same poor judgment he showed when he proposed to her and the world — including me — had the unfortunate experience of seeing the whole thing on Facebook.” He looked Philip in the eye. “If you go through with your plans to marry Chloe, you’ll lose everything you’ve worked for all your life.”

Philip has already made his decision clear. Victor is wasting his breath. I hope, anyway.

BRB--I'm driving to Chicago to help Philip and Chloe pack up their offices.
Why is Victor being so ridiculous?? I don't understand intentionally alienating your child. Nope nope nope. And my big question--does Maggie know what Victor is up to? I can't imagine that she'd knowingly let Victor make this kind of mistake.
Will you be able to give us previews, boss?

I doubt that Victor will be able to convince Philip to give up Chloe. I'd think he'd know that, as well. Ah, well. Victor's being stubborn, as usual.

This sounds more like Victor is upset about the way he found out about the engagement. I know Victor has never cared for Chloe, but every time they have gotten engaged, Philip told his father about it face to face. This time, Victor had to find out online.
