Awww! So glad Parker felt more at ease once he saw Derek. I'm sure that all of the workers will be paying extra close attention to him (from a distance) over the next few weeks.

Sweet chapter. Can't wait to hear what Parker tells Mary.

I'm glad that Parker was okay with going into the daycare once he saw his friend. It's not surprising that some parents are keeping their kids out of the daycare.

Chapter 38d
“Hi Mary.”
“Hello Chloe, Parker. … Parker, go ahead and take a seat.”
Mary was about to ask Chloe to have a seat in the waiting room when Parker said, “Can Mommy stay?”
Mary and Chloe looked at each other. “Of course, if that’s what you want. You’re in charge.” Mary motioned for Chloe to come in and take a seat next to Parker. She crossed the room and went to her chair. Smiling at Parker, she said, “I understand you went back to day care today. Do you feel like telling me how it went?”
Parker shrugged. “It was okay. I saw Miss Lucinda and Miss Sharon and I played with Derek and Corey and Brittany, but mostly Derek.”
“Derek is his best friend,” Chloe explained.
“I remember that,” Mary replied. “And how did it feel being back?”
“I dunno. A little scary at first, but then I forgot why I was scared.” Mary and Chloe smiled until Parker said, “But I remember now.”
“Okay, that’s fine. Do you want to tell me what you remember?”
Parker nodded. “I remember the lady that took me … she told me you were busy and she had to pick me up instead and that she was taking me home to Mommy and Daddy and I knew they was coming home that day, so I was excited.” Parker took a long halting breath.
As Chloe watched and listened, she held her breath and mindlessly dug her fingernails into her arm.
“Take your time honey,” Mary told him.
“But she didn’t take me home. She took me to this big yard that had lots of tiny little houses that all looked the same. I told her it wasn’t the right place and I wanted to go home.”
“Did she hurt you,” Chloe blurted.
Parker rubbed his wrist. “She held my hand really really tight and it burned.”
Chloe was dying to take him in her arms but she didn’t want to divert his attention. She dug her nails further into her skin.
“It’s okay, Parker. You’re safe here and your memories can’t hurt you. Go on when you’re ready, honey,” Mary urged.
“She said yes it was the right place. She said she couldn’t take me home because ….”
“Yes?”
“Because my …” He looked at Chloe for a long moment. “Cuz Mommy died on the boat.” He looked down and began to sniffle. “She said Daddy was coming to pick me up but I had to wait there. So she … she put me inside. She showed me a blanket on the floor and there was juice boxes and crackers. But when she left, she shut the door and it was really really dark and I couldn’t see them anymore. I couldn’t see anything.”

I'm glad Parker is opening up about this I feel like Chloe is going to go crazy on Philip later tho I know it's not easy for her to hear anymore than it was for Parker to experience it But it's not Philips fault I hope Mary stresses that

I am glad that Parker is finally talking, but I do wish Chloe wasn't in the room...I'm afraid she's going to hear something, react, and upset Parker.

I don't think Chloe should have been allowed in the room. She is not only confusing Parker with her own reactions but also interfering with his independence by explaining things for him. That's why usually children in therapy are allowed to say/do what they want in the therapy room but parents are not allowed inside if the child is having an individual counseling session.

It's quite sad that Parker had to go through all of that. I'm not entirely sure Chloe should have been in the room or not, though. Regardless, I'm glad Parker told Mary about what happened.

Oh I'm so glad that Parker is opening up about what happened. I may not agree with Chloe being in the room but right now if that's what Parker wants, then I'll go along with it. Chloe is going to have to control herself tho. Digging fingernails and leaving marks is only going to upset Parker when he sees it. She can't react to what he is saying either and has to let him get things out in the way that he needs to with Mary.
One plus to her being in the room tho is that she hears from Parker first hand what happened and how. I know she's still going to blame PHilip when all is said and done but part of her problem and silence has been because of the unknown. She's not going to like what she hears, but she also has to remember that he was checked out at a hospital and got a clean bill of health physically. Mary is there to deal with the mental and emotional aspect of it.

I'm glad that Parker is talking about what happened to him. Hopefully it will help him. I'm glad he was able to have Chloe with him.

Chapter 38e
Parker looked at Chloe for a long moment. “Cuz Mommy died on the boat.” He looked down and began to sniffle. “She said Daddy was coming to pick me up but I had to wait there. So she … she put me inside. She showed me a blanket on the floor and there was juice boxes and crackers. But when she left, she shut the door it was really really dark and I couldn’t see them anymore. I couldn’t see anything.” When he looked up, he focused on the pole lamp next to the sofa.
“Do you want to take a break,” Mary asked. “Or maybe choose one of the stuffed toys from the toy chest to hold?” When Parker shook his head no, she said, “Okay, what did you do next?”
“I tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t open. I got tired and crawled back to the blanket in the dark. I ‘member trying to open the crackers and I couldn’t get them open. I didn’t want to cry but I cried. I cried for a long time,” he said as he rubbed his eyes.
A sob escaped Chloe’s throat. Parker slid closer to his mother on the couch and climbed into Chloe’s lap. She wrapped her arms around him, kissed the top of his head, and rocked him.
“Take your time, Parker,” Mary said gently. “Whenever you’re ready, tell us what you did next.
“I think I fell asleep,” he said quietly. “Because when I opened my eyes, it was still dark and I thought maybe I was still sleeping. I got up and tried to find the door but it was dark and there were big boxes I couldn’t find it.” He thought for a minute. “I yelled ‘help’ for a long time. I was hungry and I had to pee and I couldn’t … I couldn’t hold it.” He leaned away and said to Chloe, “I tried, Mommy, I really tried.”
Chloe pulled him to her shoulder and kissed his head. “It’s okay, angel. You couldn’t help it.”
“Did the lady come back,” Mary asked.
“I don’t think so. I was hoping so hard she wouldn’t come back.”
“Why?”
“Cuz she wasn’t nice and she lied to me. She said my Daddy was coming but he didn’t.”
Mary took a deep breath and said, “So you were trapped inside for a long time.” Parker nodded. “We’ve all been wondering … how did you get out?”
“I dunno. It was still dark but I could see a little better and I could see the door. I tried to open it again and kept trying and trying and it fin’lly opened. I ran and I ran through the yard and when I got outside, there was this boy on a bike. He almost ran into me. He asked where I was going. I didn’t know. I didn’t know where Daddy was and I thought Mommy was dead and you were … I didn't know where you were. I didn’t think I could go home on account of I didn’t think there was anybody home anymore. I didn’t know where to go. I told him I needed to go to Whole Foods to see George." He looked up at Chloe. "George told me I could trust him.”
“That was such a smart decision, angel,” Chloe told him as she rocked him. “You are wise beyond your years.”
