I'm glad Parker seems to be getting back to normal. I hope that continues. Not sure what the future holds for Philip and Chloe but hopefully Philip will be strong either way.

Chapter 38c
Parker held Chloe’s hand and was practically skipping as they walked away from the staircase on the 15th floor. But when they got within 10 feet of the day care center, Parker stopped walking. He turned and pressed his face into Chloe’s leg.
She squatted down to eye level with him. She could see the fear and sadness on his face. It was even more heartbreaking than when he was crying uncontrollably in the lobby this morning. Truth be told, she didn’t blame him one bit for not wanting to go inside. But Mary stressed how important it was to take this step and to take it quickly, before the fear set in and festered and infected other areas of his life. Not going into the center was far worse than going. “I know how you feel, angel, but I promise you that this is not a scary place. You’ve spent so many happy hours here.”
Lucinda, Parker’s former nanny who Philip had appointed director of the onsite day care center, stood in the doorway. She turned around. “Derek, come over here honey. Look, your best friend Parker is here.”
Derek’s jaw dropped. He set down the craft project he was working on and ran past Lucinda and out of the room. “Parker!” He hugged Parker so hard, he nearly knocked him over. “Where you been?”
When Derek let Parker go, Parker said, “I got kid’apped.”
“By who? Aliens?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Wanna see the 3-D sports stadium I’m making,” Derek asked.
Parker’s eyes lit up. “Yeah!” He ran after Derek into the day care center.
Chloe exhaled and approached Lucinda. “You’re a genius,” she told her as the women hugged.
“The child psychology courses I’ve taken are paying off.” Lucinda took a step back. “He looks fine. I’ve been praying for him, for all of you. You, on the other hand, look so stressed out.”
Chloe shrugged. “It’s been rough on us. I’m taking Parker to our family counselor this afternoon.” She looked toward the door. “I want to go inside and see how he’s doing.”
“Of course.”
When Chloe walked inside, she zeroed in on her son, sitting on the floor with Derek, using safety scissors to cut out shapes of sports equipment. The other day care workers were there and the children were playing. Except for the fact there were fewer children than usual — probably because employees were uneasy about leaving their children there after a child got kidnapped — everything appeared normal.
Parker looked up and waved her over. “Yes, angel?”
“You don’t have to stay, Mommy.”
Her eyes widened with surprise. “Um. Okay. I’ll be back for you at noon so we can go see Mary. In the meantime, I’ll be in my office. Just tell Miss Lucinda if you want me or Daddy.” She leaned down and gave him a big hug, regardless of whether it embarrassed him.

"You don't have to stay, Mommy." I bet those words make a parent nervous and yet pleased that the kiddo is ok! (Also, I'm told that's what I said to my mom on the first day of kindergarten--before we got to the door of the school. I'm sure she felt like mother of the year...) Parker seems to have adjusted to the daycare well, though it's probably good to start him out with shorter periods. Glad that Parler is going to see Dr Richards....and that Chloe wasn't hateful to the daycare staff.

I'm curious about how Parker's session with Mary will go. I wonder if he will express some of his feelings through what he's making/playing with in day care.

So glad Derek is still there to play with Parker. I just had the feeling once he saw his friends, that it would help.
