I'm glad Parker chose to stay with his dad I think Philip needed that kind of reassurance

Glad that Parker wanted to spend time in Philip's office. It's nice that Philip and Chloe may make peace, but they both have a lot of work to do at this relationship.

Anyone other than me breathing a big sigh of relief? Parker seems reasonably comfortable, Chloe and Philip appear to be mending fences, and more Whole Foods cookies. 😉

This is good. Parker is talking and sitting comfortably in his dad's office and doing what is normal for him to do in there. I know that Philip needed that reassurance after Parker preferred his elephant over the GI Joe. I'm surprised that Chloe left him so soon, but I'm glad that she did. Her constantly hanging everywhere Parker goes is not going to get him back into his normal routine. Very good steps here.
I'm glad that Philip didn't jump right up and say yes to the peace offering. I liked him saying that it was a good start. Chloe has caused/put so much distance and tension between them that a cookie is not going to fix everything. Philip is not 5 and should not be treated like he can be pacified by pretty lights or small gestures. It's going to take a lot of work to right this setback. I really hope he took Georges's words to heart.

I'm glad that Parker seems content in Philip's office. Hopefully all three of them have a good day.

Maybe having that sense of normal life is helping all of them.

Chapter 38a
Philip had his head buried in an excel spreadsheet on his computer screen when Parker got up off the couch. Philip looked up quickly. “Parker! Parker, where are you going?” He couldn’t hide the panic in his voice.
“Downstairs to see Mommy,” Parker said as he left Philip’s office. Philip grabbed his cell phone and rushed out to follow Parker.
He dialed Chloe. “Parker’s on his way downstairs.” He followed a few feet behind Parker, remembering Mary’s warning not to hover. Let him have his space, let him feel independent. Okay, Philip thought to himself, but I’ll be damned if I leave him on his own.
When he reached the spiral staircase that connected the fifteenth and sixteenth floors, he looked down and saw Chloe’s smiling face at the landing below. “Hi angel. You want to visit with Mommy now?” She took Parker’s hand when he reached the last step. “Let’s go see what Lucinda and your friends are doing, okay?” Chloe lifted her eyes and smiled warmly at Philip before disappearing out of view.
He blew some air between his lips. This was good. Mary was right about getting him back in his routine as fast as possible. Parker wanted to venture out and this was a very good thing. Chloe was going to take him to day care, but she was smart not calling it day care since those words had a negative connotation for Parker. Instead, she said she was taking him to see Lucinda, his former Nanny and the director of the day care center, along with his friends. Parker did have a lot of friends there, especially since he no longer went around hitting people. He’d likely be happy to see everyone he knew.

Well, I'm glad that Philip and Chloe are letting Parker go back to daycare.

So far so good with Parker. Love the line since he no longer goes around hitting people! I have a nephew that took Taekwondo classes and he would go around kicking everyone! Thank goodness he got out of that stage.

Awww! So glad that Parker is up to "roaming around" by himself again. Kids are creatures of habit. I know Philip is paranoid and terrified by the all of the happenings and what he witnessed of Parker's fate once he was taken. he needs to talk to someone about all of that tho before Parker picks up on that and it causes a set back. I can see Chloe being more at ease and able to deflect because 1. that's what mom's do and 2. she didn't witness first hand the storage unit and hope and heartbreak of thinking Parker was there only to learn that he wasn't. She only had to deal with the unknowing - which is pure torture when it comes to your child. Philip had to deal with the fact that once Parker was left alone - he ended up somewhere else. Luckily that place was with George, but PHilip didn't know that at first. That's torture on a whole different level.

I'm glad to see Parker feeling comfortable enough to venture out of Philip's office. I wonder how he will react when they reach the daycare.

Chapter 38b
Philip returned to his desk and tried to get some work done, but it was hard to concentrate. He was utterly exhausted. He got next to no sleep for the past four nights.
When he returned to the condo after grocery shopping yesterday, things started to feel normal. Chloe didn’t seem quite so distant, but the focus all evening was on Parker.
Parker asked Philip to read a book with him. When they went into his room, Parker wanted to put on a night light. He never needed a night light before being kidnapped, but after spending all that time in a pitch dark storage unit, Philip more than understood.
Philip ended up falling asleep in Parker’s bed while reading with him and by the time Philip woke up, Chloe had gone to bed.
When Philip left Parker’s room, he saw the master bedroom door open a crack. He peeked inside. It was dark, but he could see Chloe in bed sleeping. He had hoped for a chance to talk to her, although he wasn't sure there was anything he could say that he hadn't already said. He remembered George telling him it wasn’t wise to pin all your hopes on one person. But George didn’t live in Philip’s shoes. “The heart wants what the heart wants,” he whispered to himself before closing Chloe’s door and heading down to the guest room.
He didn’t get a whole lot of sleep in the guest room either, between worrying about his son, the state of his relationship with Chloe, and anxiety over what the coming day would bring. Hopefully he would be tired enough tonight that his mind would let him sleep.
He re-read Chloe’s response when he thanked her for the cookie. “Depends. Did it work?” Such simple words. Being the eternal optimist, he couldn’t help but hope they signaled a turning point.

I am always surprised when Philip is such an optimist, especially about relationships. He certainly doesn't have any reason to be, given his childhood and his own relationship track record. But maybe he has reason to be--we'll see.
Parker seems to be doing ok, all things considered, but I wonder if something is going to happen that will help him talk about the kidnapping.
Will we have previews this weekend, boss?
