Chapter 3a
Philip fell asleep on the floor with his back up against the back of the living room sofa and his head slumped into his chest.
“Daddy! Daddy!” Parker’s voice called. Philip’s eyes flashed open. He got up and looked around.
“Parker! Where are you?”
“Help me Daddy, help me.” The boy’s voice was coming from the terrace.
“I’m coming, son,” Philip shouted as he ran toward the terrace door. His legs were heavy, like he was running under water. “Hang on, Parker. I’m on my way.”
He flung open the terrace door and gripped the edge of the balcony. He looked down and his eyes widened. “Parker!”
Parker was dangling off the edge of the balcony one floor below, his little hands gripping the cement. “Help me Daddy!”
As Philip dangled a leg over the 19th story balcony, Parker began to slip and he was now hanging on by his fingernails. “Hurry Daddy,” Parker cried. “I’m scared.”
“I’m coming Parker, don’t be afraid!” Philip climbed onto the outside ledge of the balcony. Holding the railing with one hand, he bent his knees and reached down. “Take my hand, Parker.”
Parker reached up and was inches from Philip’s hand when his other hand slipped and he drifted downward.

Well, this has got to be a dream, more like a nightmare! Hope Parker is actually okay.

Sounds like Philip is blaming himself, thus the nightmare of not being able to help Parker.

Philip must be having a nightmare. Sadly the real life nightmare won't end until Parker is back home.

Chapter 3b
“I’m coming Parker, don’t be afraid!” Philip climbed onto the outside ledge of the balcony. Holding the railing with one hand, he bent his knees and reached down. “Take my hand, Parker.”
Parker reached up and was inches from Philip’s hand when his other hand slipped and he drifted downward.
“Parker, nooooo!” Philip jumped off the ledge. As he swooped downward, his suit jacket acted as a cape. He sailed downward the way Superman would and scooped Parker into his arms less than a foot off the pavement. “I’ve got you, son. I’ve got you and I’ll never let anything happen to you ever again.” Philip pointed upward and flew back to the 19th floor, over the railing and into the safety of the condo.
He smiled as he set Parker on his feet. Squeezing Parker tight, he reassured his son. “Everything’s okay now. Everything’s going to be okay.” He leaned back to look at Parker, and Parker was gone. “Parker! Parker! Nooooooo.”
“Help me Daddy!” his son cried out. “I’m scared.”
“Philip.” Chloe kneeled on the floor and shook Philip. “Philip, wake up. You’re having a nightmare.”
Philip shook himself and looked at Chloe. “Where’s Parker?”
Chloe shook her head and the tears in her eyes told him that that part of the nightmare was real. His own eyes were damp as well. Chloe put her arms around Philip and rested her head on his shoulder. He clutched her forearm. He wanted to tell her everything was going to be alright but he couldn’t. He needed someone to tell him that, to comfort him.
“I was supposed to protect him,” he spat before pushing her away. “Damn it. I’m his father and it’s my job to protect him until he’s old enough to take care of himself. He has a right to expect me to keep him safe! It’s the basic right of every child.” He scrambled to his feet and headed toward the terrace. He stepped outside, yelling, “I failed. I failed. I failed him. Damn it to hell.”

I hope they hear something soon.
Philip can't be expected to be with Parker 24 hours a day. The day care was irresponsible in their security proceedings and that's part of how this happened.

I was right, Philip is blaming himself. He is trying to be Superman but no one can do that. He needs to realize this is not his fault and not fall apart.

Poor Philip. I had to smile at the superman bit, but it was bittersweet knowing that it was just a dream.
Boy I sure hope we find out soon that Parker is ok.
