Chapter 2
The Randolph Street building had a doctor’s office in the lobby level and one of the nurses came up to check on Philip. His blood pressure was high and his heart rate was elevated but he insisted he was fine and was annoyed at being examined. The focus shouldn’t be on him, it should be on finding his son.
The sun went down and the building emptied out. A floor-to-floor search was underway and an Amber Alert had been issued. There were cops at all the exits and parking garage watching workers as they exited. When Chloe and Philip were finally convinced there was nothing more for them to do at the office, a policeman drove them to the condo. He gave them his number and let them know they’d be hearing from a detective once someone is assigned to the case. Philip yelled and screamed about making this “case” their highest priority, but he was reminded that this was Chicago and the police had their hands full with many missing children reports as well as day-to-day crime. They were doing the best they could. “After we get my son back, we’re moving out of Chicago,” Philip threatened. The officer remained unflappable.
As soon as they entered the apartment, Chloe headed for the master bathroom. She wanted to throw up but all she got were dry heaves and continued nausea. She hadn’t eaten for half a day. She closed the lid to the toilet seat and sat down on it, pushing her hair back and covering her face with her hands.
In the living room, Philip mindlessly poured himself a brandy. He drank it down fast and poured another. Bringing it to his lips, he pulled it away and stared at the amber liquid in the glass for a moment before throwing the glass across the room.
In the bathroom, Chloe jumped when she heard the noise. She automatically reached for her phone at the edge of the sink, only to realize no one was calling. She got up and opened the medicine cabinet. Reaching for a prescription bottle, she twisted it open and spilled two pills into her hand. Dr. Richards had written her a prescription for Paxil, for her anxiety and seizures. She hadn’t taken any for months, but right now she needed something to keep from jumping out of her skin. She downed the pills with a glass of tap water. She took her phone, left the bathroom and climbed into bed.
Philip leaned against the back of the sofa and gazed into the kitchen. A memory washed over him and he pictured himself and Parker in there making pancakes for Chloe to surprise her with breakfast in bed. A small smile faded from his lips and he slid down the back of the sofa until his rear end hit the floor. “Parker,” he cried, as he rested his head on his knee.

This has got to be so hard. But I hope that nobody develops a substance use problem as a result of this, that won't help anything. I hope they hear from the detective soon and that s/he is more empathetic than whoever they spoke to initially. There are lots of people in Salem Philip could call for help. Victor has resources (if he's not behind the kidnapping) and there are plenty of competent PIs there. Will there be previews Kpatch?

I"m sorry, but I have a hard time believing that PHilip has not yet made a phone call to get added eyes on this case. When a Kiriakis child goes missing, it's all hands on deck.
And in true Kiriakis form - a glass is thrown. LOL.

I'm with mae00.... I am also surprised they didn't go flying into some private detective's offices.

Previews
Thanks for your warm reception and fast engagement in this new segment of the After the Fall saga! Because you asked, here are some previews (not sure they’re as upbeat as you wanted doolfan4life ) …
-Philip and Chloe are reeling from the shock of Parker’s disappearance.
-Philip blames himself.
-A detective is assigned to the case and he has security camera photos.
-And looking ahead, readers can rest assured that as soon as Philip and Chloe start thinking a little more clearly, calls will be made, including one to Victor.

Philip wouldn't be Philip if he wasn't blaming himself. (I still think he has years of therapy ahead, to counteract his parents' terrible attempts at child rearing.) I hope the security camera photos give a good lead on who took Parker....and that the detective is brighter than the usual Salem PD staff! I hate bringing Victor into this, when Philip and Chloe are already so fragile. He's hardly caring, nurturing, or supportive--but if his connections get Parker home more quickly, so be it. Thanks for the previews, boss!
