I remember that Maggie was unable to have children, but I can't remember why. Other than her, have there been other stories of infertility (that didn't end with a miraculous - never thought it would happen - birth)?
Most of the women in Salem seem to be crazy fertile (sex once with two men equals twins with different fathers *cough* Sami *cough*). I think an infertiltiy story would be ripe with possibilities.
Or did they do this in the past and I missed it?

Mickey was infertile. She had a daughter, Sarah, that was an in vitro baby.

Actually I think Sami is the exception, Days and other soaps tend to do lots of infertility storylines. Remember that both Chloe and Nicole were supposed to be infertile, Philip apparently had "slow swimmers", something was wrong with Mimi, that's why they did the pitre dish/switched embryos circus that resulted in Tyler, etc.

Exactly! Sami's name should be changed to Myrtle...

Ahh. I forgot the problem was with Mickey. And yes, clearly Sami is the exception.
I guess it has been done before, but apparently it didn't register with me. I wish they would realisticly do an infertility storyline now (since I wasn't watching the whole Tyler/Pocket stuff). It's heartbreaking to look down at that pee test and see "NOT PREGNANT" when you've been trying for so long (going on 5 years for me) and it can be a real test to a relationship. I guess it would end up as a really long-term story, but I'd like to see it.
So who should it be for? Melanie? Taylor? Any other child-bearing aged women?

I think Melanie would be a really good character down the road, as there are many women who have unsuccessful miscarriages and/or who are infertile and can't carry a child to term. It'd be interesting to see a root for couple who finally have it all try for a baby, and the struggles that they encounter.

HAHA @ Trey. Fertile Myrtle? I love it. hahaha
I think that Nicole should be able to have her miracle baby. If two people can get together (Philip and Chloe) who are both supposed to not be able to have kids and they were able to make a baby...Nicole should be finding out that she is pregnant with Brady's baby. Screw EJ. LOL
I think that she deserves to be able to have a baby. She would make a great mom and I feel so sorry for her. Even though I know she was wrong in doing the baby switch, etc., I still felt bad for her when she had to give Sydney up to Sami. And still feel bad for her that she can't have any babies.

Oh Dancing Days you are preachin' to the choir sista! I too suffer from infertility and wish they would do a realistic story about infertility on this show. I hate how they have so many women who are supposedly infertile and they either just leave it at that like these women will NEVER get pregnant or they do the miracle pregnancy that's plot driven. To me this does a serious disservice to the viewer. Now, admittedly, a storyline of a couple dealing with infertility in a realistic way is probably not the way to get ratings and may be boring for many viewers but it would at least be more true to life. Take Nicole for instance. She was told she could never get pregnant. Then out of nowhere she does get pregnant but then miscarries in her second trimester. She's then told once again that she will never get pregnant...by Dr. Baker, a hack! So, instead of going to a reproductive endocrinologist and seeing what her options are (IUI, IVF, surrogacy, etc.) she just takes it at face value that she will never have children. And then of course with her track record they say she would never be able to adopt. So what do they do? They have her obsess over someone else's children to the point of marrying a monster just so she can be a "mother". Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!! I'm still holding out hope that Sydney is really Nicole's though.....

I agree about the fact that the show not investigating IUI, IVF, etc is a disservice. I would love to see SOMEONE go through it. Think about this: Taylor decides to do a favor for Nicole and agrees to be a surragate for her. Nicole asks EJ to be a sperm donor and he agrees. Of course, Nicole doesn't know that Taylor and EJ have been having an affair under her nose and Taylor ends up pregnant with twins. Only this time, they have seperate mothers and the same father! Or do they.........
