Are there movies you absolutely have to watch, movies that suck you in when they're on TV no matter how many times you've seen them before and despite the fact you know how it ends and can recite half the lines? I have tons like that. Those that come to mind are:
When Harry Met Sally
West Side Story
Jerry McGuire
Witness
Working Girl
Any Rodgers and Hammerstein musical
Gigi

Yes and they are embarrassingly many and fairly immature.
All those 80's teen movies, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink Jurassic Park Any of the Bourne Movies Star Trek IV (the one where they go back in time to get the whales) Oh - and of course, Harry Potter movies Bridesmaids and The Hangover - these make me laugh no matter how many times I see them.

wendylou - I have 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club on DVD. Shawshank Redemption is the movie that hubby and I always watch when we come across it.

I think I mentioned once in a different thread that I've seen Dead Poets Society at least 20 times. The other movie I watch over and over and look for clips of on YouTube from time to time is Ordinary People. wendylou I also like Star Trek IV. Kpatch When Harry Met Sally is my favorite romantic comedy ever. I'm also a fan of Witness.

I just realized my favorite movies were made before I was born. I love any of the film noir movies from the 40s.

I like film noir too kathyj. I'm a big Hitchcock fan (but not of Josh Griffith's attempts to turn DAYS into a Hitchcock film LOL). My favorite is Suspicion with Cary Grant. I also like Spellbound, which I think is with Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman if I remember correctly. Another favorite move: SUnset Boulevard. My cousin was impressed yesterday that I was not only familiar with the line, "I'm ready for my closeup" but that I knew what movie it was from. LOL

A New Leaf
I remembered that one last night when hubby and I kept putting movie quotes into our conversation. This one came up while we were talking about what we'll do after our son's wedding:
"I have no mind as far as I can tell."
The conversation also had a couple of quotes from Six Days, Seven Nights. I guess add that movie to my list.

UhSir! I adore The Apartment. It is so poignant and the dialogue and acting are incredible. It's the only time I've ever really liked Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine. Oh, and Fred McMurray as a womanizer! The casting was perfect. I often tell my husband to "shut up and deal," even though we're not playing cards. LOL.

Okay, I'll admit and I don't know why but, I have always loved Bob Hope. When I was a teenager I used to scour the TV Guide and if I found a Bob Hope movie airing on the local channel's 9 o'clock morning movie, I would find a way to fake being sick if it was during school. Then, in high school, I needed to do a report (I don't remember the criteria) and I chose Bob Hope. During my research in the public library, reading microfiche, I discovered that he and I shared the same birthday. Oh Em Gee!
So I have my DVR set to record anything with Bob Hope (because I'm hoping that someday to capture the elusive "Beau James") and this showed up: Fancy Pants (1950) A classic "Bob Hope" and also "Lucille Ball" offering. Oh those looks (was that an adlib?) and the slapstick and then Lucille Ball wrangling that horse. Wow! Is there any actress that can do that today? Top it off with that little dachsund during the fox hunt. LMAO!
Do they make movies like that today?
