I hope they are able to smooth things over, for Parker's sake! Thanks for the previews, Kpatch!

I don't blame Chloe for being shocked and upset. Philip should have been clear about the wedding before it happened. Thanks for the previews Kpatch. It looks like a rough week for Phloe.

Chapter 57
Taking her hand, he said, “Chloe, a ship’s captain doesn’t have the authority to marry anyone. That’s just a myth. I thought everyone knew that.”
She pulled her hand away and faced front, looking at the back of the taxi driver’s head. “Not everyone.”
“Babe, look at me.” Chloe crossed her arms and continued to stare straight ahead. “Chloe, the only way a ship’s captain can marry anyone is if he’s authorized by the government or ordained through some religious affiliation. Captain Nyland wasn’t. Most captains aren’t. Not only that, you can’t get married at sea. You’d have to have the ceremony in port for it to be recognized by the State.”
She turned her head and looked at Philip with anger. “Then why the hell did you ask if I’d marry you ‘tonight’?” She unfolded her arms long enough to make air quotes.
“I just wanted to give you the intimate and romantic wedding you asked for. That’s all. I just want to make you happy, Chloe. That’s all I ever want. I promise you, I didn’t have sinister intentions. You wanted a special wedding ceremony, so I arranged that for you. For us.” He looked away from her and sighed. “Like I said, I thought you knew.”
“Well, your communication skills leave a lot to be desired. I feel like an idiot. I feel like I’ve been played for a fool.”
“That’s not true.” He reached for her hand but she pushed his hand away. “You’re not an idiot, Chloe. It was a really special event for us, wasn’t it? You said it was perfect.”
“It was,” she said, brushing a tear off her cheek. “I thought that was ‘it.’ That we’re married now.”
“If it makes you feel any better, sweetheart, I feel married to you. I mean, we’re as good as married.”
“Nothing is as good as married.” As soon as the cab stopped in front of the Randolph Street office building, Chloe opened the door and got out.
“Chloe!” he called out the door.
“Leave me alone!” she shouted without turning around.
“Well, that didn’t last long,” Philip mumbled.
“That’ll be $35.10,” the cab driver said.

I think Chloe is way overreacting. Obviously Philip wasn't trying to fool her. Refusing to talk to him because she wants to be married to him is kind of silly on her part.

Argh. Chloe needs to look past her hurt and understand that Philip's motives were good, even if his communication skills are lacking... If she isn't willing to, then I'm available to comfort Philip.

I understand that she is disappointed, because she thought the wedding was real and it wasn't, but I think Chloe's overreacting. Philip was trying to do something sweet and romantic. Thanks for the chapter, Kpatch!

Phillip's communication skills leave a lot to be desired??? Hello pot, meet kettle. Chloe seriously needs to get a grip and stop this overreacting. It's not like Phillip set out to intentionally decieve her. He was trying to give her both things that she wanted. An intimate "ceremony" as well as the big "to-do" event. Ceremony doesn't always mean the wedding itself. There is a such thing as a rehearsal and the reception ceremonies.
This drama queen bit of hers is why I never really liked Chloe.

I agree Chloe is taking this a bit too far He did a sweet romantic thing Yes their was confusion but what ever get over it At least Parker will witness the real thing She always had a flare for the dramatics

I think Chloe is reacting more out of hurt than anger. Philip shouldn't have assumed Chloe knew the ceremony wasn't legal.

Chapter 58
“$35.10,” the driver repeated.
Philip shook himself and reached for his wallet to pay the driver. Then he got out of the cab and rushed into the building.
He couldn’t believe how quickly things deteriorated between their once-upon-a-time to their happily-ever-after to now-she’s-furious-at-me-again. Really, though, he shouldn’t be surprised. This was their default unhealthy pattern which apparently they hadn’t broken yet. And he’d been so hopeful this time. But Philip had no one to blame but himself. Obviously, he wasn’t clear enough about the wedding ceremony he arranged on the yacht. He took it for granted that Chloe understood exactly what was going on.
“Communication, people.” He heard Dr. Richard’s voice ring in his ears. “What I’m hearing is the two of you making a lot of assumptions, thinking you know things that maybe you don’t, instead of being direct with each other. Communication, people. That’s the secret to a successful marriage.”
Clearly, they had yet to master the art of communication.
He rounded the corner to the elevator bank that serviced the 15th to 25th floors, and he spotted her! Chloe was alone inside one of the elevators but the doors hadn’t closed yet. When Philip stepped inside, she didn’t even look at him. She was too busy repeatedly pounding the button for the 15th floor like she was trying to cause it pain.
Philip calmly pressed the close door button, and the elevator heeded his order. Chloe breathed out through her nose. She folded her arms and took a step back to the corner of the elevator. Then she took her phone out and started to send a text to Lucinda that they were on their way up.
“Chloe, come on. You can’t stay angry at me,” he pleaded. “We had a great vacation. I felt closer to you than ever and I know you felt the same way. Let’s not ruin it over something like—“
“Something like what??” she snapped. “A stupid wedding that didn’t really happen? How silly of me for blowing something trivial like a marriage out of proportion!”
Philip shook his head. “Chloe, be reasonable. Look at the bright side. We only have to remember one anniversary,” he chuckled. Her eyes widened with anger. Okay, so his stand-up routine needed work. He reached out to touch her, but her body language made him change his mind. He dropped his hand to his side. “Look, I’m sorry you’re disappointed and I think when you calm down, you’ll realize it’s not that a big deal. I mean we’re getting married in five weeks regardless.” He glanced up at the lighted floor numbers. “But in a minute, this elevator door will open on the 15th floor and we’re gonna see people we work with. And our son.”
She rolled her eyes. “Oh of course,” she said sarcastically. “And we must keep up appearances, mustn’t we?”
