So awesome for Parker to be able to be with them. I have no doubt he is learning so much from Dick & Mary and having a blast doing it. I was half expecting Dick to have taught Parker "Let's Go Fly a Kite".

I was half expecting Dick to have taught Parker "Let's Go Fly a Kite". Love it! That would have been great if Dick Van Dyke had been the one to sing it in the movie. I chose the "Mary" song because it's the name of Dick's wife in this story, so he was singing to his wife in addition to having fun with Parker and teaching him a tune. SaveSave

Chapter 53c
Parker fell on the floor giggling with delight after they finished their musical number. Dick pulled him to his feet. “Jolly good job, Parker, my boy!”
“Mommy says I herited her talent.”
“I wouldn’t be a bit surprised,” Dick said.
“That was fantastic,” Mary said, applauding from her spot on the sofa.
“You mean it was light fantastic,” Parker corrected. “That was fun, Uncle Dick! Can we do it again?”
“Hmmm.” Dick rubbed his chin. “Say, Parker. What do you think about coming up with a special dance in honor of your parents’ upcoming wedding?”
“Yeah!”
“Hey!” Dick’s eyes widened. “I know a fun song about getting married. It’s from a musical and it even has monkeys and turtles in it. How does that sound, Parker?”
“Let’s do it!” Parker butted fists with Dick.
Mary shook her head from side to side. “I’ll leave you boys to rehearse. I have some calls to return.”
“We’ll call you when we’re ready for prime time,” Dick called after her.
“Oh boy, can’t wait,” Mary said sarcastically, but she was truly thrilled that the two of them had taken to each other so quickly and completely.
Turning back to his student, Dick said, “Okay, Parker, just like you did before, follow my lead.”
[Click here for the song and dance number, then return to read the rest of the chapter below.]
When the song ended, Parker said, “That was fun. I want us to sing it at Mommy and Daddy's wedding!”
“Dick, can I see you a minute,” Mary beckoned from the hallway.
Dick approached Mary and she leaned near his ear. His eyes widened. “Five times??? Really? Who does she think she is? Elizabeth Taylor?” Dick asked jokingly. Mary shrugged and Dick went back to Parker and squatted down to talk to him. “Um. Instead of at the wedding, Parker, maybe we could just perform it in the living room for your parents.” He looked at Mary who was shaking her head from side to side. “Or not.”SaveSave

And this is the problem with babysitting your client's children. While I do think the choice of song is slightly insensitive and would be even if Chloe hadn't been married five times, Mary is now sharing information with her husband that was shared in session and his response was a bit judgmental. I think if done right it could actually be a testimony to how Chloe and Philip are in it for the long haul. It'll be interesting to see Parker's reaction to this. Thanks for the chapter Kpatch !

As much as dick seems to be having fun with Parker I agree babysitting your clients is not a good idea when you're their therapist And she shouldn't have shared that information This is why I really don't like Mary

Well, marriage is public record so that wasn't divulging a patient confidence.

I love Parker and Dick's interactions! I knew they would hit it off!
I think the song choice was perfect because Dick didn't know Chloe's background. All he knows is that Parker's parents aren't married and that's what every little kid dreams of so I could see Dick picking that song from that perspective.
I wonder if Mary stepped in here because she was afraid that Chloe would have a breakdown because of the references to unsuccessful in marriage and attempting marriage several times. If so, then Mary needs to address this with Chloe. Either let Dick and Parker perform the song for Chloe and Mary gauge her reaction or set the scene and play it in one of their sessions. The truth does hurt and Chloe needs to face and accept those failed marriages without having a breakdown or outburst when they are brought up whether it be in conversation or in an innocent song. She has acknowledged them, but I don't think that she has accepted them.

Chapter 54a
Philip and Chloe made their way up to the Sky Deck where the captain was waiting, along with a couple of naval officers. It was windy, but the darkening sky was streaked with pink as the sun began to set.
Chloe held onto Philip’s arm as they walked down an imaginery aisle. A member of the staff approached and handed Chloe a small bouquet.
“Thank you. It’s lovely,” she said as she held it up to her nose.
Philip leaned toward Chloe and whispered, “I think it came off of our dinner table. Necessity’s the mother of invention.”
“I don’t care where it came from. I love it.”
They stopped in front of the captain who stood at the railing.
He nodded at them. “Chloe. Philip. Are you ready?”
“Definitely,” Chloe said, squeezing Philip’s arm.
“Been ready for sixteen years,” Philip said, as he grasped her hand on his arm.
“Then let us begin. We are here today to celebrate your love story. Philip told me a little bit about the road you’ve taken to get here and all of the twists and turns. So today I am going to order you smooth sailing from this day forward. Philip, do you have anything you want to say to Chloe?”
He faced her and took her hand. “Chloe, if you don’t know how I feel about you by now, then I must be doing something wrong. You’ve been sewn into my heart so deep for so long, that you’re really a part of me, part of my body, my soul. There is no me without you anymore. You make my heart beat, you make my blood flow, and you make my life so much sweeter. Knowing you want to spend your life with me means everything. And I’m going to do everything I know how to make you happy, you and Parker both.” He kissed her hand.
The captain turned to Chloe. “Chloe? Would you like to say something to Philip?”
“Um, I didn’t prepare anything.”

What Philip said to Chloe was so sweet. Hopefully, Chloe can think of something to say to him. Can we please have previews, Kpatch?
